Will Celine ever have another #1 single in the U.S.?

Singers (or I should say their record label) can buy airplay to score a Top10 Hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 by giving huge amount of cash to the major radio stations in the U.S.

Plenty of singers do that. That's why they can easily score a #1 Hit or a Top10 Hit on the Billboard Hot 100 despite having flop albums.

Celine could do that but I highly doubt she would since her and René only care about albums sales and concerts grossing.

I didn't know this! :o

No wonder Whoriah has all them #1's. :sofunny: :giggle:

Knowing Celine, she's gonna come up with a super-stellar song that will blow all those other wannabes like beyonce and what not out of the water!

You'll never see the courage i know. It's colours richness won't appear within your view. I'll never glow the way that you glow. Your presence dominates the judgements made on you.

But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights. The shades and shadow undulate in my perception. My feelings swell and strech, I see from greater heights. I understand what I am still too proud to mention to you.

You'll say you understand. But you don't understand. You'll say you'd never give up seeing eye to eye. But never is a promise and you can't afford to lie.

You'll never touch the things that I hold. The skin of my emotions lies beneath my own. You'll never feel the heat of this soul. My fever burns me deeper than I've ever shown.

But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights. The shades and shadows undulate in my perception. My feelings swell and strech, I see from greater heights. I realize what i am now too smart to mention to you.

You'll say you understand. You'll never understand. I'll say I'll never wake up knowing how or why. I don't know what to believe in. You don't know who I am. You'll say I need appeasing when i start to cry. But never is a promise and I'll never need a lie.

They can buy the airplay, yes....but none of that matters if the people listening don't like the song.

Well, if Kesha is number 1 on the charts with auto-tuned songs, there's a reason for it; she's young, young people ARGUABLY love her because she's outlandish. No I'm not a fan of Kesha however, I'm just assessing why do people buy her record and make her go number one on the charts so easily. The only artist from Celine's vocal generation that made a great comeback was Mariah Carey with her Emancipation of Mimi record in 2005 that earned her many number 1s on the charts. I know Celine outsold Mariah's albums; however, when you count Celine's #1s and Mariah's #1s, Mariah wins. The emancipation of Mimi worked basically because she made the album a mixture of RNB/Pop/Soul which doesn't match with Celine's personnality or song style. I don't know if returning to old style can get her on top of the charts, because ballads have a hard time sustaining a number 1 place on the charts. BTW, can anyone name any ballad that went on the top of the charts in 2008/9/10? Very Few with very limited time or even none...

if she teamed up with a current young artist she could get another #1 or it has to be a theme for a block buster movie, then its possible to get another #1. James Cameron should have asked her to do the theme for Avatar , same as he did Titanic . what a failed opportunity.

I haven't heard that song once on the radio... So I am very happy they didn't!! :P a great movie doesn't equal a great movie soundtrack :thumbsup2:

Exactly! The theme for Avatar charted nowhere! This song is a H-U-G-E commercial failure all over the world.

The worse thing she could do is another huge blockbuster movie soundtrack! Titanic made her famous but it also made a lot of people not like her and the whole production! If she had done the theme for Avatar it would have given the critics and a lot of the media a huge reason to just say "not again!!!" Cheesy beyond belief! I think Celine is certainly capable of having another number 1 US hit. I mean, the right formula and team does exist in the universe...somewhere. Do I think it will actually happen though? No.

Having said that, the cool thing about Celine is that she continues to be a tremendous superstar and even though she might not be doing anything chartwise, she has earned the respect of her musical peers and continues to be music royalty! So her career and life are still very intriguing to many people! She has staying power!!

As long as she sells 2-4m copies of each album, her music career will go on forever, and she won't need a big hit single, because her album sales would be outpacing most others in the music business. If she then makes $250m on a tour every three years, that would also be a bonus! ;)

Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

Celine will have her time again in the charts. Of that there's no doubt.

Many people, myself included thought the "Taking Chances" era would see her smash back onto the singles charts but looking back the material wasn't really strong enough, was it? 3 official singles were released from that album, 2 of them covers. Hardly revolutionary stuff is it? Just look at the lukewarm reception the new songs got in the tour dvd, with the exception of "My Love." People just weren't "feeling it."

Celine is doing all the right things in her life at the moment, spending time with those she loves raising a family but there is no doubt in my mind that she'll ever stop recording music. It's simply in her.

One day, possibly 20 years from now or possibly next year, another "Think Twice", "My Heart Will Go On" or "That's The Way It Is" will come along and Celine will be a hit or the charts again. It's just a matter of when.

I just don't understand people wanting Celine to sell more and always more. If she wanted to do that, she wouldn't have stopped her career back in 2000 to take a break and be with her family. If she didn't decide to put her career on a hold 10yrs ago, she would have gone to be a major phenomena and maybe she would have equalled MJ in records and things like. Now, she didn't do that because that wasn't what she was looking for in her show-business or even in her life. Moreover, Celine has cut her relationship w/ show-business like YEARS ago. She doesn't want to compete anymore; she's happy with where she is right now. She's freaking RICH, and in Celine's case, this was the first motive for her whole career. People in this forum worry about her paycheques; don't worry she's gonna drill your every dollar you have in your pocket till the end of your freaking life. Also, she doesn't need the money that she gains right now; she's doing her career as a HOBBY not as a job. She's like Barbra Streisand, she has attained legend status and can now enjoy life as a normal person. She's doing the LV show because she wants to stay relevant and she likes singing. If Barbra Streisand hit #2 on the dance charts at age 63, I'm sure Celine can do something at age 42.

Yes but Barbra, was promoting the hell out of her albums she didnt have three young kids at home... given Celine situation its gonna be hard, the easiest way this could happen is with a very modern duet with someone hot right now... -_-

Barbra Streisand hasn't promoted the hell out of her albums since 1966. Her music is good music, good music plus a good voice equals success. In fact, she's only had 4 tours to date---one being a world tour. I'm pretty sure Celine has childcare for her children, that's no excuse as to why she can't put her voice on a record and shoot a lame video. It's the song---she needs a good song and not a duet with an artist that won't be here in 10 years (Where's Clive? Billy Newton-Davis? etc, etc). Edited by Alex_Incognito

I would appreciate a lot if Celine did an interesting video. The last video TC was a MAJOR failure; except Celine looking beautiful in the video, the video itself had NOTHING to do with the song TC. Unless, the meaning of the video was "what do you say to go steal some stuff from my Vegas residency and then go back to control the view from my master's chair" Oh yes and the famous phrase said by the man in black "Wow Celine 10/10 you run fast; first I thought you were a good singer, now I know that you RUN too" :w00t: and Celine says: "What's Next?" [the answer I figured it out now = Go MAKE BABIES!! ]

Now that is questionable!!

I agree with Shaun, it's all about the right song at the right time! Look at CHER, everybody had written her off, but in 1998 she had a smash hit with Believe...

Singers (or I should say their record label) can buy airplay to score a #1 Hit or a Top10 Hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 by giving huge amount of cash to the major radio stations in the U.S. Basically this is the "Pay to get get airplay" practice aka Payola.

Plenty of singers do that. That's why they can easily score a #1 Hit or a Top10 Hit on the Billboard Hot 100 despite having flop albums.

Celine could easily do that but I highly doubt she would do such ''not-so-legal'' thing since her and René only care about albums sales and concerts revenues.

Oh really?! Just google "Celine payola scam" and you'll find your answer. Don't just criticize other artists without researching about the one you admire cos sometimes it can sound really unresearched, Gab.

One such example

OMD! I so lurve you for that, Alex

noting Eliot Spitzer’s payola investigation revealed that “in exchange for playing a Celine Dion song, a radio program director could score from Sony BMG’s Epic label a two-night trip to Las Vegas for two with the chance to meet Dion.”

I cant see this happening unless drastic changes happen from within her team and they finally know how to promote a single
