Will Celine ever have another #1 single in the U.S.?

It's been over 11 years since her last U.S. #1 single, which was I'm Your Angel (Duet with R. Kelly). The single was an incredible hit, spending 6 weeks at #1 in the United States, from December 5, 1998 to January 9. 1999. It was certified platinum, and has sold 1.4 million copies, there. It also hit the top 10 in eight other countries. Since then, however she hasn't had a top ten hit since That's the Way It Is, and a top 40 hit since A New Day Has Come.

 

My question is, does anyone think Celine will have another #1 single in the United States, or has the music industry changed too much? There's always that stigma that once an artist hits the big 4-0, their songs are not played as much on the radio. Personally, I couldn't really care less, because Celine is much more of an albums artist, rather than a singles artist. She's done very well popping out albums with no single release, and having it hit #1 in several countries. Not many artists can do that. Still, I would LOVE to have her have at least one more #1 song. Please feel free to comment. Thanks.

I think that the song Taking chances was very succesful (and don't forget about I drove all night and Et s'il n'en restait qu'une (Je serais celle l'a), which became her biggest hit in french since Pour que tu m'aimes encore).

Celine is more than ready to get another #1 single.

Celine will never get another US #1 single - even a collab with somebody as hot as David Guetta or Lady Gaga would fail to light the charts afire.

 

I fear the only thing that would get her another US top 10 hit is (GOD FORBID) her death

Sous Le Vent is by far her biggest French hit since Pour Que Tu Maimes Encore, selling over 800,000 copies in France, and over 1.1m copies worldwide.

 

But this is about USA!

Remember, Cher was in her 50's when she stormed the charts with her #1 hit single Believe so it's not too late for Celine.

I Drove All Night was a huge #1 hit in some Asian countries, Canada, Belgium Flanders and Sweden (and globally a huge Top10 hit in whole Europe!) but it was only a Top40 hit in the U.S.

Honestly, I think that everytime Celine releases a new album, it's really promoted (TV appearances, world tours, amazing interviews...) Most of her albums gave her at least 1 important award, so I think that this is such a stupid thread. Who cares about how succesfull worldwide are her singles? That's secondary. The most important thing is that we like her songs and that we love how talented she is.

For example, My heart will go on is one of the most succesfull singles ever recorded, and it's not everybody's favourite song. (But I have to say that I love the song )

It matters because Celine is near the top of the table in every other field - album sales, tours, awards, recognition, peer respect - but singles always let her down

The only 2 places in the world where the You and I single was a Top10 hit was in the Province of Quebec and in Hungary. As for the Taking Chances single it was a huge Top10 hit in Canada, Denmark, France, Italy & Switzerland but it failed to enter the Top50 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.

There have been some good ballads (Bleeding Love, Halo, Already Gone, etc) that have done well.

So with the proper song, and I don't really see it being uptempo, it could be possible.

In my opinion what has been #1 hits in US the last years has been pure crap with exceptions of a few artists: Christina Aguilera, Rhianna, Leona Lewis, and Lady Ga Ga. I think Celine is absolutely capible to produce a #1 hit in the US! In Celine's case age won't be a factor she is far to talented to be over looked for her age. She just needs the right song and producer at the right time. In my opinion it will take her stepping out of what she normally does. A dance song maybe David Guetta? Whadda ya say?! Eh!

Correct. Like it or not, promotion is crucial to the success of an artist and an album today So there's no way she's having again a #1 if they don't sent the proper songs to radios and promote them with great videos/TV appearances

Yes, I believe that she will have another nr.1 hit in the US. Maybe even more than one. All it takes is the right producers and the right genre. A change in her music is crucial. Not throw away the ballads, but change them into what people like right now. Such as "Fireflies" by Owl City, or something completely different like Rihanna's "Umbrella", or even Kesha's "Tik Tok". Obviously not those songs, but a lot can be done, and once she finds that key, more than one song will come. I'm sure of it.

 

I would LOVE for Celine to record something like "Ambitions" from the Norwegian band Donkeyboy. It would be a nr.1 for sure! I would actually like for her to cover that song.
