I heard someone on TV (can't remember who) not so long ago saying that Celine has what it takes to sing opera and that she would have been the best "cantatrice" ever, but instead wasted her talent in pop music... Thank God she chose to sing pop But again, no matter what she sings, I'll buy fo sho! Opera could be interesting..., as long as she's belting some high notes! guyddavies Posted December 10, 2009 at 12:08 AM Posted December 10, 2009 at 12:08 AM i can sort of understand sony and celine, why spend millions of dollars on publicity when she can release a lullaby album with none and still get in the top 10. singles are dying off, they make little to no money, and even if sony pulled out all the stops people wont play celine, in the uk radio one said even if she had a number 1 they wouldnt play it. my point is celine dion has reached the level where she is CELINE DION. just like barbra streisand, they dont need to promote the hell out of something, or prove anything to the world. they release albums and the fans buy them, the artist enjoys recording them. celine can stay at home with her family and put out new cds for her fans. do i think its wrong of fans to want her to be huge, no i dont, but with or without publicity she still is. im not starting the entire mariah debate, i get that enough from my brother, he hates celine loves mariah, but even he admitted the other day mariahs last album was rushed, and didnt get promoted, and didnt even get into the uk top 20. celines taking chances gets released in the uk the same week as the spice girls led zeplins come back, etc and she still makes it to number 4 with only 1 appearance to promote it. i doubt very much its worth it to celine, her family. or sony. to spend more money on promotion with sales figures like that. in music reviews in the uk she released "im alive" even BBC said dont remind us. the truth is i dont think celine will get massive singles, but then she never has, celine has been the album seller mariah the singles same with madonna, celines fans dont just want one or two songs off the album, they want the album, so most of her fan base will just buy the album anyway. as for the massive high notes, ill admit i do miss them, but she has been singing for 28 years, she said herself she doesnt just want to be known as thar singer. and there is only so long you can hit those notes and keep your voice, id much rather her release quality lower key songs for another 20 years than ruin her voice and only have her sing for another 10. i just think the bottom line is celine is doing what she wants, the only problem i find is that celines fans are waaaaaaay to critical of her, her dresses like in the disneyland christmas thread, her song choices, every performance we get the lip synching debate. how many times have people critisized her for talking about her son etc. i also like cher, she hasnt had an album sinse 2001, but go on her forum and her fans are really loyal. how can we expect the public to not pull her apart when the fans do it themselves. im not saying we should be blindly loyal either or not have the right to express opinions. but my opinion is that celine dion is more than just an artist. shes a woman with wants and needs of her own, were lucky that shes not a demanding diva, that shes down to earth and happy yet still releases records, finds time to record xmas messages, sign pictures, and is so open about things like IVF. personally i think that all of that proves herself more than belting out super high notes and treking half way across the world to sing on a talk show with the hope of selling a handfull more singles and probably the same number of albums my only suggestion would be go back to releasing albums in quiet months, february like it used to be, or july might be good for this summer album. less competition and more exposure. taking chances album and single were released in november. you cant release a single to promote an album when everyone is playing xmas songs. i think its about timing and i dont think the timing of her last few albums has been brilliant, yet they still sold. but if taking chances had been released 4 months later with the number of album sales it had it would have easily shot to number 1 world wide. but releasing it in the same weeks as spice girls, led zeplin, alicia keys, leona lewis, westlife, etc i just think that was the worst timing, but still getting to number 4 amongst all them is impressive as hell.... celine has proven herself, she is a legend Quote
