Yes, the docu is amazing❤️. I watched it live on M6 yesterday. The studio sessions/pics and the PQTME video Making of are the highlights.

I think the documentary was brilliantly done. I never knew a lot of the stuff, as a fan of over 25 years… It is rare for me to not know everything lol.

 

It makes me miss her more, gosh I wish she’d come back with another album written by JJG… but since he’s retired maybe one song from him and a Celine comeback would be enough:)

 

I miss her so much, her music, her voice and her stage presence… it’s really sad because I really thought Celine would be doing this until she was in her 80s and now it feels we are robbed of some many good years from a living legend.

I know I am going off topic but she kinda shot herself in the foot when she made her Vegas stint in between 2003-2007. Then she made that lullaby album that nobody bought that made her even less relevant while she still was in her prime musically; if you look up her 1 in a while performances she did on marathons, with Elton John etc you can see that her voice was still offering so much potential but they chose to ignore it. Then when she finally emerged from the Vegas Coma she was mostly nasal on TCWT.

 

I am not hopeful that now she can pull a voice that she had back in the 2000s. That voice is gone and her disease makes her very fragile so a comeback is nearly impossible and she doesn't need it to survive either.

The album itself was certified platinum in the United States, sold over 2 million copies worldwide, while the book/dvd/cd combo sold another 500,000 copies. As far as concept projects go, this was very successful.

 

I also don’t believe that Vegas killed Celine’s career. Rather, it revitalized her in a different way and put her at the top eschelon of perfomers. She set the modern standard for performing, proving that you don’t need to necessarily tour in order for people to want to spend money to see you.

 

As far as her voice on the TCWT, Vegas is also not to blame. We now know that the early onset of symptoms of her illness are what contributed to how she had to force herself to sing so that she could continue on a very expensive and anticipated world tour.

 

When it comes to post Vegas mainstream success, this is also not the fault of her choice to do a Vegas residency. It has everything to do with poor choices made by her team. In 2002, she comes out of a hiatus with a (for the time) very fresh sounding album. A good handful of songs that could have very well been singles. “Sorry For Love” could have very well been her “Believe” and drawn the road for her to release songs like “Reveal” “Naked” or “Shadow of Love.” Hell, even “I Drove All Night would probably have been more successful as a follow up to SFL. The early 2000’s also saw a very different scape in what people were listening to. Dance, R&B, Rock and Alternative Rock took over the airwaves. I think her team and record company choosing saccharine drivel like “Goodbye’s The Saddest Word” is what honestly caused the industry to lose interest in playing her on the radio, and then directly affected what her career in streaming would become. Rene being stuck in the 90’s until his death, regarding what he believed the public wanted to hear from her didn’t help either. He pigeonholed her fan base that way. While he was an incredible manager and force in building her career, and making her a worldwide phenomenon, I believe this one part of his mindset was a detriment rather than a benefit. And now we have a ton of music from Celine, post 2002 that mainstream has no idea about, and also much of the public.

That’s true… the timing didn’t help either. I wonder what would happened to her career has TTWII wasn’t released before her break but instead she released it and kept going… I think they would’ve have followed in that Max Martin trend and probably would’ve had more success staying with the times. I still wonder why Max Martin wasn’t brought back for at least a song or two for ANDHC album… he’s still killing it to this day.

You all forget one important point: Celine didn't even want to comeback after RC birth and do a Vegas show in 2002/2003. She was a happy mother and that was all that she wanted. She only did it because of Rene and the money that was involved.

I just watched the documentary, very well done. I can’t believe it has been 30 years. It also is a bit sad to watch because of the current situation. It must have been difficult for her to see this amazing footage. Makes me miss her even more.

I think “Faith” and “In His Touch” are beautiful but LIAWN is one of my least fav Celine songs… trying to hard even by 2003 standards.

 

I think IHT is one of her worst songs ever. Its the only song on OH I skip. LIAWN is a bop though

 

That being said the three songs on OH that he did are still among his weakest. Even Faith which I love is no TTWII or Baby One More Time.
