Celine is known to work on albums in lightening speed. She was known forever recording multiples songs in one night. It wasn’t til later in her career she began recording them over a longer period of time. And you’re right when that happened the less coherent the albums became.

Completely agree. I would have gone for the Nulle Part Ailleurs performance. There’s something magical about that intimate acoustic intro 🥰

The TOTP video was filmed at the Liberty State Park/Jersey City in September 1995.

Finally watched this documentary.

So many great memories in these hours, it was fun to watch.

And make me appreciate this album even more, the impact it had for her career.

 

Though the editing was a bit off a lot of times.

At first I thought I was missing a part when they talked about La Bas and suddenly it was 10 minutes of completely something else before they finally showed the La Bas performance.

Some thing felt a bit all over the place.

 

It was great seeing her again, but I must say I found the older interviews with her that they used for this documentary more revealing than this new one.

She seemed happy, but for me I would love it if she a bit more straight to the point.

 

And hearing more demos, I mean come on Sony give us that 30 anniversary album with ALL the demos.

Rene mentioned in the documentary that JJG impacted Celine's career in general and not just her success in France. And I can probably see why he said that. Maybe the success of ''D'eux'' impacted the way in which ''Falling Into You'' was put together. Not only FIY included the English versions of 3 songs from D'eux, but it was also developed in a similar manner - its songs are quite distinct from one another. The album begins with IACBTMN that is an orchestral power ballad, moves into BYLM that is a much softer love anthem, then into FIY that has a completely different sound, and then into MYH which is pop/reggae. There are also soft rock influences with ABM and YL, soul with RDMH and DOL, and even country and gospel with DOY and CTM, respectively. A little bit of everything which works greatly and results in a coherent record.

 

I also felt the same way about LTAL and SSDA. These albums are counterparts. They are more poetic and cinematic than their predecessors. Not as easy-listening but very beautiful.

I really thought we will see the full performance of that iconic song. And it was amazing that Jean Jacques picked Celine to sing this song with him.

The documentary was a good watch and it was great to relive the magic of this album. Very grateful that a French tv channel could do what Sony aren’t interested in doing.

 

Celine going on and on and on about yoghurt tho. Seriously LOL.

 

Special editions or rare material from Sony? Don’t make me laugh. We’ll give you a tshirt and you’ll be happy with it!!!!

The least they could do would be to upload a real live performance of PQTME. She had some amazing ones in 1995! Taratata is my personal favorite. The documentary was a nice listen though.

For the docu you can really tell that Celine didn't make a huge effort recording this album. She nailed 3 songs in a day and in one week they finished the whole album. And she felt comfortable recording it. And that got her the biggest hit album of her career. This is incredible! So what is the bottom line? Hard work doesn't always guarantee success.

Yes she was at the top at the time. But something that has to be mentioned is that JJG arrived with all the melodies of the songs. If you listened at the demos he proposed to Celine and her team the complete songs were done. Celine brought her own touch but the songs were done, just like in karaoke
