I really pray this is short term and not something permanant. That would be devastating if she lost her voice all together. I wish her to get well as fast as possible...they may end up postponing the tour all together.

how could this have happened she is very careful with her vocal cords, and she knows how to protect it. I don't think it has anything to do with her singing voice;and if it is it's been a great almost 17 years and more. Got to stay thinking positive guys

Ok can I ask, you're all talking about "jumping to conclusions"- what conclusions are they?

As far as we know, it's a virus causing this. There are millions of types of viruses, and some, like this one, are really bad. No matter how much you take care of your vocal chords and health, things like this can happen. It's just bad luck.

 

One last shot at optimism- she's only cancelled one show, due to scheduling conflicts. If this was life threatening, surely she'd be cancelling them all, or at least rescheduling wouldn't have been an immediate priority. Plus, the official website advertised the December 2nd show with this announcement, so it seems that at this stage, they're still planning for her to be well by then.

 

Why would she have gone to Vegas though? I don't understand that.

 

Oh, and nobody is mad at anyone for worrying, we all are and have been for a while now. I think in a way we're scaring each other though, and making each other worry more

SAN DIEGO CONCERT AT THE SAN DIEGO SPORTS ARENA

AEG Live, the promoter of Celine Dion's Taking Chances World Tour, has regretfully had to cancel the artist's San Diego concert on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the San Diego Sports Arena. Celine's physician has instructed her to refrain from singing in order to completely recuperate from a recurrent naso-pharyngeal infection which was further complicated by inflamed vocal chords.

 

After reviewing artist and venue availability with tour logistics, the promoter was unable to reschedule the concert. Fans may obtain ticket refunds from their original point of purchase. Additionally, a limited amount of tickets for Celine's Los Angeles concert on December 2nd are still available. Fans able to attend the Los Angeles show are encouraged to visit ticketmaster.com now to purchase new tickets.

Oh no! Canceled and not rescheduled. I really feel for the fans whose only opportunity to see Celine was through that show. I guess we saw this coming though.

actually I think I've relaxed. Celinedion.com wouldn't post reminders about the decembers shows (jay leno/grammys) just to cancel. Seems she'll be up and running for the month of December. Although, if I were going to that San Diago show, that little news blurb would've pissed me off lol. Its like....oh hey..she's canceled a show a few days before, but shes got this show and this show and this show...and she'll be fiiiiine. Not because of Celine, but it seems a little insensitive to write it the day after writing about this canceled show. Since when do they post news this far in advanced? lol.

I was one of the people going to the San Diego concert, and I'm more than a little pissed off (see autumnskies post)!!!

 

AEG is the ONLY one to blame for canceling this concert, and now they're blaming it on Celine being sick!

 

This was an added concert, not on the original list a year ago....tickets went on sale 2 months ago, and half the arena had a hefty price of $254 per ticket!! Who in this economy is going to pay that much per person!?!? Plus, most of us here had already bought tickets to Anaheim last year, thinking that would be the closest Celine would come.

 

We were taking our 8 year old daughter for her first concert, and now I have to tell her when she gets home from school today. Her little heart is going to break.

that's what i'm worried about. i've kept a calendar of all her tour dates on my computer moving the concerts to the rescheduled dates as necessary, and i also noticed that her next concert is in Anaheim.

Well, lets just really hope and pray that she stays well once they "think" she is well....and not turn into something bad or worse again. This is a prime example of what not resting will do to you, especially for her traveling and going into different climates every other day...that really affects her voice too. I'm sure she is taking all the measures possible to get better. I still have faith she will return fully recovered and stronger than ever.

Of course Celine's health is #1.....and if that's the ONLY reason the San Diego show was canceled, then why wasn't it rescheduled to another date, like her other 10 shows that were canceled? I (and my daughter) would be fine if our concert had been rescheduled for a few months from now.

 

It's AEG Live's fault for adding a concert at the last minute with sky high ticket prices in an economy that couldn't support sales. This is their business....they should have known better!!

Celine has the best throat doctors - believe me, after this setback, Celine won't sing again until she is completely well. Which i hope will be the beginning of next week like they're planning. Fingers crossed

Let's not forget that rescheduling a concert is not only about a venue that's available and Celine.

You have to think about the musicians, dancers, staff, etc. These people probably had a contract that is probably over by the 3rd week of February I would think and some might have other engagements.

 

The tour was supposed to be over by mid-February 2009 and with all the shows to reschedule, it's getting much more difficult to find a new date before Feb. 20.

Celine Dion Postpones More Concerts

Celine Dion, who was supposed to return to the stage last week on her “Taking Chances World Tour,” is still fighting a respiratory virus and has postponed more concerts, LiveDaily reports.

 

The singer rescheduled shows in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Indianapolis and the tour was scheduled to be back on in St. Louis. But that date, and shows in Tulsa, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, San Jose, Omaha, and Denver have all been postponed.

 

AEG Live, the tour’s promoter, released a statement saying, “Her physician has instructed her to refrain from singing in order to completely recover.” Dion has been suffering from a naso-pharyngeal infection as well as inflamed vocal chords.

 

The postponed shows are rescheduled for December, January, and February. All tickets will be honored at the new dates or ticketholders can get a refund at the place of ticket purchase.

 

Dion is scheduled to be back on the tour on Nov. 25 in San Diego. She still has dates in North America and shows in Quebec as well as Mexico.

It's probably nothing life threatening, though these viral infections are really annoying stuff. Last year I caught exactly the same thing: naso-pharyngeal infection with vocal inflammation and it took me 3 months to be completely rid of it. From January to March I would get better, then worst again, then better again, then worst... These virus are really crap because antibiotics are not efficient against them, cause they're virus and therefore, self-limited. What you can do is fight the symptoms but sometimes they're just really persisting.

 

All she needs is SERIOUS rest... Climate changes make it very difficult for her body to stay strong against the infection.

I've been worried for a while now it's been almost a month already. I mean no person is sick for a month, unless it's serious. I just hope she feels better in time so she can celebrate christmas. I've been thinking could something have happened to her mom, and there just saying Celine's sick so it will stay out of the papers so she can have some private time with her family, unlike with her dad. Ok, if Celine was a receptionist or something she might have been able to work weeks ago. But this is like a footballer breaking his leg, for want of a better example. The problem is with the one body part she needs to use most. It really really sucks. But as far as we know, she's not in hospital, she is in a stable condition, she is just sick.

 

TheOne explained it well- I remember a Doctor who examined her while she was in Australia, mentioning that the illness she had was resistant to antibiotics. Leaving the only treatment options; a lot of rest, and time.

 

And I don't think there's anything wrong with her Mother, if there was, why would she fly back to Vegas, when Maman would be in Montreal? Speculating about this over and over is only going to make you more upset. I'm tempted to do the same thing, but really, it won't help Celine. It will just make you have a bad day.

To the person who posted about the article saying she'll be back on the 25th. False info. Celine Dion.com has announced the 25th show is canceled. Her mom is obv. fine. We saw her even after shows were canceled on the ADISQ awards looking happy as ever. And, yes she'd be in Montreal if that were that case.

 

It makes sense if San Diago wasn't completely rescheduled because of scheduling conflicts but it also would make sense to me if they didn't reschedule because of sales. I know its disappointing for those who were supposed to go, but it probably cost a lot of money to move a date, and if the sales weren't worth it, why are they going to extend everyones contracts etc. if it will cost more money than they are making off the show. And yes the economy is bad, but tickets have been that high for EVERY show. I paid $400 for one seat in the second row. I agree its crazy but many concerts of this size are this expensive because of what it costs to put on every show.

 

For future tours, I agree, less shows bigger venues. To do newark, prudential center, and msg...thats crazy (even though I went to all of them and loved every second lol) but all of these venues were considerably close to each other and could have been cut out. Prudential Center is literally 15 minutes away from Madison Square Garden on a train ride. She's worn herself out. I like your football comparison, makes perfect sense. Her voice is her job.
