Bellamy Posted August 7, 2008 at 01:11 AM Author Posted August 7, 2008 at 01:11 AM I don't think it would be a good idea for Céline to sing there. She would have to answer questions all the time, why she doesn'T boycott the games like many politicians because of the human rights situation e.t.c. It might hurt her.She had already answered she supports the Olympics 100%. And it has nothing to do with politics. bruno_oliveira Posted August 7, 2008 at 04:11 AM Posted August 7, 2008 at 04:11 AM ITS REALLY OVER FOR CELINE ....NO CHANCE BEIJING OLYMPICS: Sarah to perform theme song! We are very pleased we can finally announce that Sarah, together with the Chinese singer Liu Huan, will be singing the official theme song of the 2008 Beijing Olympics! Nearly 100,000 people will watch the opening ceremony in the Bird's Nest Olympic stadium, with billions more expected to tune in worldwide for the extravaganza. The song, whose identity has been carefully kept secret via its omission from all three of the opening-ceremony rehearsals, will be revealed at the conclusion of the ceremony, which commences at 8pm Beijing time Friday, Aug 8, 2008. For further details, please visit the Official Olympics website as well as transcripts of the press conference. Needless to say, this is a tremendous honor, and we are thrilled that Sarah will once again be singing the theme song to the Olympic Games! Many of you already know that she also sung the theme song, "Amigos para Siempre" at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games with Jose Carreras, to a global audience of 2 billion. With that said, enjoy the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and Sarah's performance! http://www.sarah-brightman.com/index.html Quote

ThisTime Posted August 7, 2008 at 05:33 AM Posted August 7, 2008 at 05:33 AM Celine has already sang an Olympic opening- I don't know why everyone thinks she should do another. So what do you say to Sarah Brightman? She also sang olympic theme song in 1992, but it's her again! Well, maybe Celine might sing at the Opening Ceremony of Vancouver 2010 That's her country, right? I thought I remembered there being an article on here saying that was the plan. But maybe I am mistaken... Quote http://i.imgur.com/MfrTohK.gifMy Twitter || My Tumblr

Jay718 Posted August 7, 2008 at 06:09 AM Posted August 7, 2008 at 06:09 AM Choose Sarah is kinda too predictable and safe choice. I'm surprised that Mr. Angelil hasn't already devised a plan to brainwash Ms. Brightman into doing a duet with Celine. Maybe it will be at the Olympics Quote http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh275/Jay7180/im_13.jpg

Thanks for digging this up, Anu! Now, it's all coming back to me! LOL Obviously that's why Celine's not supposed to perform at this year's Olympics. The International Olympics Committee cannot show any favoritism... and having Celine perform at this year's Olympics and another one in two years would get billions of raising eyebrows LOL. Anyway, I already have plans to attend Vancouver 2010.So, to have Celine there will certainly be a nice treat! Anu, get ready to pack your bags! You're coming to Vancouver too! HAHA Quote

idroveallnight Posted August 8, 2008 at 04:33 AM Posted August 8, 2008 at 04:33 AM I'm sure she'll get the honor again if the games head to France or Canada. The Olympic Committee is probably saving her for a francophone country (and that seems more appropriate). Plus, how many times can Celine be given this honor? There are many artists out there who are dying to for a moment to perform in front of the whole world (and remember until that point, Celine considered singing at the Atlanta games the peak of her career). MamaOlga Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:12 AM Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:12 AM I'm dissapointed... But I also think that it's not the best time for Celine to sing today at the Opening of the Olympic Games, because of the tour, le 400 de Quebec, her family plans, etc. And I hope she will sing in Vancouver 2010, who could sing better than her, especially in Canada??? But ... only 10 minutes ago I was counting the seconds before the opening! I hoped I could see and hear Celine! It's such a big dissapointment to me! Quote If I could... CellyDee87 Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:27 AM Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:27 AM You guys should all be thankful that someone like Sarah Brightman is singing and not somebody like Whoriah, now that would be tragic Quote
triniguy Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:27 AM Posted August 8, 2008 at 11:27 AM I was all hyped for celine performing now knowing she isnt performing is a bit heart wrenching thought my girl wud go there and show them hows its done...sad Quote http://surfaced.org/wp-content/gallery/cd_sig/10.jpg

ByuSmurf Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:05 PM Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:05 PM (edited) Found this article dated THIS MORNING!!!LIVE COVERAGE 7 a.m. Vanessa: After months of construction and controversy, progress and protests, the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics is finally underway. With today's opening ceremonies about to begin, tens of thousands of people are gathered in this bustling city, all holding their breath -- whether it's because they're excited or because it's smoggy, well, it's hard to know. Either way, no matter how much or how little you know about sports, the fact is that when Celine Dion belts out a pop ballad in a giant bird's nest while fireworks go off in the shape of a happy face above, there's no question it's an event worth watching. It's also an event worth blogging about, so here I am with the Post's live coverage of the ceremonies. Please bear in mind that I'm an Arts & Life reporter who knows way more about Celine Dion than Simon Whitfield and I'm not quite sure what a heptathlon is. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/t...g-ceremony.aspx Edited August 8, 2008 at 12:06 PM by ByuSmurf Quote http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/byusmurf/siggy12-25-05.jpg
ByuSmurf Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:08 PM Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:08 PM AND THIS ONE!!! The opening ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing will be held in the Beijing National Stadium, and begin at 8:00pm CST (UTC+8) on 8 August 2008. The choice of date and time (2008-08-08 8:00) reflects the fact that the number 8 is considered lucky in China. It has been announced that Canada's Celine Dion, Taiwan's Jay Chou, Britain's Sarah Brightman and China's Liu Huan would perform during the opening ceremony. http://www.dailymirror.lk/DM_BLOG/Sections...spx?ARTID=22775 Quote http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/byusmurf/siggy12-25-05.jpg

pat200 Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:36 PM Posted August 8, 2008 at 12:36 PM you guys, sarah brightman is a very good singer as well. she is one of the few real sopranos in the pop world, because most of the others are called sopranos due to their whistle register which is not what a soprano is (i think you knew who are some of those i am talking about). so enjoy her. she is not celine, but at least she is quality.
