when i read today newspaper about the confirmation on Liu Huan and Sarah will be singing the Beijing Olympics theme song, my heart was like the glass breaking in the start of AND show.......Sarah is great...but she is never never never and never have that "Qi" the chinese called it “大将之风“。。。yes i agreed she is too operaish....Why not Celine? why Not Celine.....tomorrow appear in all newspaper headline...."A guy went crazy when she realize the Beijing Olympics theme song is not sing by Celine Dion" Really have no idea...how they shortlist Sarah? BEIJING OLYMPICS: Sarah to perform theme song!

 

We are very pleased we can finally announce that Sarah, together with the Chinese singer Liu Huan, will be singing the official theme song of the 2008 Beijing Olympics!

 

Nearly 100,000 people will watch the opening ceremony in the Bird's Nest Olympic stadium, with billions more expected to tune in worldwide for the extravaganza.

 

The song, whose identity has been carefully kept secret via its omission from all three of the opening-ceremony rehearsals, will be revealed at the conclusion of the ceremony, which commences at 8pm Beijing time Friday, Aug 8, 2008.

Needless to say, this is a tremendous honor, and we are thrilled that Sarah will once again be singing the theme song to the Olympic Games! Many of you already know that she also sung the theme song, "Amigos para Siempre" at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games with Jose Carreras, to a global audience of 2 billion.

Obviously that's why Celine's not supposed to perform at this year's Olympics.

The International Olympics Committee cannot show any favoritism... and having Celine perform at this year's Olympics and another one in two years would get billions of raising eyebrows LOL.

 

Anyway, I already have plans to attend Vancouver 2010.

So, to have Celine there will certainly be a nice treat!

I'm sure she'll get the honor again if the games head to France or Canada. The Olympic Committee is probably saving her for a francophone country (and that seems more appropriate). Plus, how many times can Celine be given this honor? There are many artists out there who are dying to for a moment to perform in front of the whole world (and remember until that point, Celine considered singing at the Atlanta games the peak of her career).

I'm dissapointed... But I also think that it's not the best time for Celine to sing today at the Opening of the Olympic Games, because of the tour, le 400 de Quebec, her family plans, etc. And I hope she will sing in Vancouver 2010, who could sing better than her, especially in Canada???

But ... only 10 minutes ago I was counting the seconds before the opening! I hoped I could see and hear Celine! It's such a big dissapointment to me!

The opening ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing will be held in the Beijing National Stadium, and begin at 8:00pm CST (UTC+8) on 8 August 2008. The choice of date and time (2008-08-08 8:00) reflects the fact that the number 8 is considered lucky in China.

 

It has been announced that Canada's Celine Dion, Taiwan's Jay Chou, Britain's Sarah Brightman and China's Liu Huan would perform during the opening ceremony.

you guys, sarah brightman is a very good singer as well. she is one of the few real sopranos in the pop world, because most of the others are called sopranos due to their whistle register which is not what a soprano is (i think you knew who are some of those i am talking about). so enjoy her. she is not celine, but at least she is quality.
