Black Kitten Posted April 26, 2008 at 12:24 AM Posted April 26, 2008 at 12:24 AM just don't mind the haters... E=MC2 is not a hit, it's a smash! mariah broke a few records also set by her. E=MC2 became her highest selling 1st week sales in her 18 yrs carreer, she surpassed elvis with 18 #1's, E=MC2 became the highest first week sale this year, and having 3 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 (TMB, Bye Bye at 23 and Migrate, which is not an official single). Her album is only a smash in the USA 'cause it sold 463.000 (which is good) BUT it didn't sold a lot in the rest of the world. By the end of the year, it will probably sold 1.500.000 in the USA and only 1.200.000 in the rest of the world. As far as a know, her chart positions aren't that good outside of the USA. The things you say are really funny. Who expects to sell 800,000 in the first week nowadays? That'as a joke. It's funny how you say that it's not selling a lot in the world. It's only been slightly more than a week since the album got released so you can't judge anything. 1.2 million copies only in the rest of the world? No way. We'll see. Her chart positions are respectable in Europe, but she's doing very well in Asia. Don't forget she's got a huge fanbase here in Asia. Europe and America aren't exactly the only music markets. Quote

LuisMa Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:23 PM Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:23 PM For me, it all depends on what week the album is released and the competition they face. So regardless of the position and sales an artist achieves, there will always be people saying "Oh well it happened because of X situation." In the end what counts is the total sales of the album, not the chart position. There is a great friend of mine who is a huge Madonna fan, and when he's reminded of the poor sales of "American Life" in the US, he states "Well, it was a number one album, so all of that is what counts to me," and if you mention now that "Touch My Body" was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and "4 Minutes" went to number 3, he'll say "Well, Madonna has sold more digital units than Mariah, so that's what matters. In the end what matters for some is not just the peak position or the sales, but the hatred you may have towards another artist. Which is okay for me. I don't care. I am not a huge huge Mariah Carey fan as I am of Celine's, but if I like a song I'm gonna go ahead and admit it. I think "Glitter" and "Charmbracelet" were kinda disastrous, but I love "E=MC2". I don't care if Celine or Mariah or Madonna or whomever is the world's greatest seller. I care about the music. Quote

And yes, I think Mariah is doing great in the UK! Why is there so much hate in this world? I believe in the power of the dream. Of wishing everybody well. I love to see Céline doing great on her world tour. Mariah breaking records. Madonna back at the top. Paula Abdul with a new single. Linda Eder going a new direction. En Vogue having a huge hit in Belgium. Lara Fabian enjoying her time off with her baby. Having tickets for next years concert of Mylène Farmer. Whitney Houston being back in the studio. Seeing Janet Jackson back in the charts... Love to all of them! I'm not a Britney-fan. But if someone is going through a "bad" period, let's pray for them and don't slash them down. Just hope that they will make it through the rain. That they'll have someone anytime they need a friend. That they'll find the hero inside themselves. And that no one can take away their inner light. Last week it didn't chart maybe cos of the limited number of days and the shipment didn't reach all the major stores until yesterday Stupid shipment services Anyway, TMB is getting some airplay here but not as much as her previous singles but the thing is many people don't know that a new album is out Mariah should do some interview for the music magazines or they should feature some articles about her. The funny thing is, even though the music critics loathe Celine here, she gets way more promotion than almost .any other female international artist. Well, almost. Shakira, Britney, Kylie and Beyonce top the list Quote
