Taking Chances Posted January 4, 2009 at 02:51 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 02:51 PM I don't think she should go back to Vegas. I'd rather she record some new albums once in a while instead and then after a few years go on a Tour again. Of course she should still do concerts, but not 5 days a week. Perhaps once or twice a month and preferably some place other than Vegas. If she made more appearances on shows, and made more music videos and released more singles, her album would still be very popular.
Javito Posted January 4, 2009 at 03:36 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 03:36 PM (edited) Of course I want her to be herself more, to dig into new stuff, to show more of who she is. I want her every album to be a succes and I want her to take risks to show other sides of herself. I especially want her to be the authentic and pure person she is, like I said. Céline and her team should have worked more on that, but they were doing A New Day.... remember, you just can't do it all. She was probably just making records because she has a deal with Sony and they want their piece of the pie too, like every business! A New Day... was a concept, a trademark and we all know that Franco wasn't all to happy about the changes they made in the show, especially for the last year. Really?? I didn't know that! But I'm not surprised, the final year shows were far away from the initial concept that Franco showed in the 2003 opening night Much less theatrical part, and the musical aspect grew a lot on the stage, quite the opposite of what they told A New Day it would be... Of course she changed, but it's not all because of Vegas. She is no longer interested either in singing perfectly, she says it all the time. Her priorities changed she no longer lives for her voice. René-Charles was the reason she wanted to drop the entire A New Day... thing in the first place, she wanted out of it.The change in her voice you are talking about happened even before Vegas! It's her family that comes first now. Yes, Las Vegas, was a marathon with physical consequences, but to be honest I think a worldtour like she's doing now is twice as tough! I am as a fan proud of what they accomplished in Las Vegas, I've seen the show many times...I've seen that Céline had good days and bad days there like every single person on earth has good and bad days. But most of the time I've seen the joy, passion and energy in her eyes, that came with doing this show. I met the people that worked behind the scenes, I have been on the stage and back stage...I even was lucky enough to meet Céline there. Sorry, but when she recorded A New Day Has Come she already was a mom, RC, was 1 and its supposed to be the year when the baby gives more hard work because he needs to be constantly looked after... and Céline's album was great vocally. She should be extremely busy... but she recorded around 30 songs for that album and promoted it around the world (she never repeated that again, as far as we know). She come back from a 2 year break where she barely sang and exercised her vocal chords... and her vocal chords were amazing So, sorry, but in 2002 she was be a very busy mum with a new born in her arms, and her voice was as great as in 1999 before her break, so I don't think RC "changed" her voice and was the guilty of her changing voice, but singing every week during 5 years did that The truth is that she did write entertainment history and it's one of the things she will be remembered for. I bet it was René's finest hour as a businessman so far! Is it all about money for him? Or is it about surpassing himself? He has his dreams too and knowing Céline she will help him to make them come true. Perhaps she will be remembered because of writting Vegas History... but only in Vegas I think , especially Caesars Palace people that won so much money because of her and now the tourism must be missing her . But fans and audiences will remember her because of her brilliant albums and music, and her persona of course, not for have being in Las Vegas during 5 crazy years as if that was her best success, because it isn't I think! Have you been to Vegas to see that show? Have you seen with your own eyes what impact it had on so many people? How proud people were to work for A New Day... and for Céline and René? How many people kept or got a job because of it? What if this made Céline and René happy too...to be able to give so many people financial security, to give the people they love to work with a homebase, to give people opportunities to exceed themselves artistically and professionally in an unprecedented project. Because that's what I saw when I was there, people there felt like it was the opportunity of a lifetime. I do care about those achievements, it make me proud of her as a person!! What if they loved to be part of a community, loved to contribute to the community they lived in? What if they loved to give René-Charles his stability, a home and friends. What if it gave her the best of both worlds? She is more than just a singer, she is a people person with her heart in the right place!! No, I didn't have the chance to see her at Vegas, but neither I've seen her in the 1994 Olympia CD, or in Paris in 1995, and I still like that voice, attitude, charisma and passion pretty much more than the Vegas one And I'm sure that a Vegas show wouldn't have changed my mind about the Olympia album I loved about Vegas that I was able to get to know Céline through the stories of the all the people I met there. That I met so many devoted Céline-fans out there, cheering her on. That I made so many new friends with the same passion for music and art! And the best thing about Vegas was to be able to go back to that every year or so, coming back to a group of friends that became bigger and bigger. That's what this show did too! It connected people from all over the world and I will remember it for the rest of my life, it was magic! If it was solely about me, about my deepest wish as a fan, I'd say what you say too, please go back to the Olympia Days, Céline. Her voice being the centerpiece of everything around her... her only ambition to exceed herself vocally. But I know that she changed...there's a lot of other stuff that matters to her, she no longer lives for her voice alone...and whatever you say I am proud of that You know, if there's one conclusion we can draw out of all this is that both opinion stances are right. Because you are right on what you say too, and I don't pretend to discuss what may have been the Vegas experiences for many of the fans that attended the show, because I know its an unique experience, absolutely beautiful and great, that you all will cherish all your lifes You made new friends and you lived a lot of emotions, thats sure. BUT you can live all those feelings seeing Céline in a TV show, taping a performance or waiting her at the hotel where she stays during her world tours, can't you?. I still don't see the need of making a 5 year confinement in an unique place, not even to raise a child (if that was the real excuse of all this story) She could have cared RC the same way (even more) without doing that marathonian contract, and recording new albums and promoting them with dedication and commitment still, but OUT of Las Vegas, in one of her own houses, and travelling and promoting when she had to. Isn't that true??? Again, just my two cents Ps to CSCfan: Don't worry, I already took my chill pill!! :mdr: Edited January 4, 2009 at 03:39 PM by Gonzalillo "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

But I think the last year of Vegas was the best. They ditched the red outfit that didn't look right on her and switched to 5 amazing different outfits instead of just 2 or 3. The setlist was better with RDMH and the band was on stage more, aswell as the dancers so surely everyone was happy? Apart from the setlist and costumes there isn't really much difference between the opening night (videos on Youtube) and the DVD. It certainly didn't seem any more theatrical in 2003 than it did in 2007, so why would Dragone be upset about the last year changes? Surely he would have been upset for the entire 5 years if they scrapped his theatrical ideas before the show even began, meaning we never really saw his initial concept? Think back to Oprah in Vegas 2003, the 'Premiere' of AND, the day before the opening night. Oprah was backstage in the costume department, and as far as I know NONE of the stuff they were looking at (i.e. the horse head) was actually in the show...

Lymon Posted January 4, 2009 at 04:50 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 04:50 PM So i was reading the thread about Celine possibly going back to Vegas after the break and was surprised by so many people thinking it was not the best idea. I wanted to know what everyone else thought she should do? Like go on another tour after doing another album or doing a Vegas show someplace else other then Vegas. Just curious... If there is another post like this I'm sorry just let me know.. Celine said in a 2002 interview with Reader's Digest that after her 3(then it was 3 years) year deal in Las Vegas, she wanted to record some albums freely and promote them. That sounds like what Shania does, and I think that sounds fine. Shania has plenty of time with her son. Celine could focus her energy on making an artistically great record, and be able to promote it well. That's what I want, I want her to be able to show herself artistically and not do the cash-cow things Mr. Greedy Pants Rene wants her to do. I want her to retire her older hits and sing her new songs live with passion. If she doesn't feel comfortable with singing a certain song, then drop it off the setlist insted of faking it. I don't care if she sang an entire concert of lullabys, as long as she felt comfortable with the material and comfortable with how she would have to use her voice in the song. Celine doesn't have to hit all the huge notes to prove anything to me, I know she has a great voice. I don't need her to fake hitting the TPOL note every night to prove anything. All I want is for her to be able to be free with her music and finally show the feelings she wants to. She should do smaller tours if she wants, maybe around 40-60 shows, or less if she wants. The 5 years in Vegas was horrible and overworked her to the bone, and this 120+ tour is such a joke and the only purpose of this tour is to milk more money off of her 90's success(it might as well be called All the Way...A Decade of Song Tour or A New Day...On the Road). Funny how besides a couple songs, the Essential Collection is basically a carbon copy of the TC Tour Setlist. Coincidence? I'll let you decide, but that's besides the point. Celine shouldn't let Rene and Sony call all the shots. I know she's not as involved now because of RC, but she can at least put her imput in the writing process or how her records are promoted. Rene and Sony are ruining all Celine has worked hard for, and going back to Vegas will once again will solodify the public's thoughts of her as the "Titanic Theme Singing Vegas Showgirl". Please, Celine, no Vegas, take a nice break, have a 2nd child, record some amazing albums that I know you can, be passionate about them and promote them, and be passionate about your performances. http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png

I want to believe she's passionate still. Those My Love performances on her world tour can't be faked. But has she lost feeling with certain songs, because of singing them everyday everywhere the past 6 years? Absolutely!! She needs urgently that break, and feel again every song and every note as she did before 2003. With her touch on each word, soft, modulating her voice, and making high notes ONLY when it was required. But not everytime like she does today "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
stevo Posted January 4, 2009 at 05:15 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 05:15 PM (edited) I want to see the love for her performing again- you never see it now- well we do, it's just false alot of the time. Like after her break and she came out on stage for the first time on her ANDHC CBS Special- "please welcome back..." and when she started to sing ANDHC she kept shaking her head and you could see the adrenaline fired up in her- she couldn't believe the respopnse etc. We still see that but it's still so ritualistic and expected. She needs to be able to be surprised by herself again. Edited January 4, 2009 at 05:16 PM by stevo

I can't find the difference between Vegas show and crying during My Love over 100 times a year, singing LCMM on every show for over 16 years. I don't understand . But does she sing LCMM, really? I hear her doing whatever on that song except singing, lately Some of the LV performances of that song were pathetic, she was only shouting and screaming around. But the difference with ML is that, while she has sung LCMM like 1,000 times in her career (being the last 800 in her LV phase ) and MHWGO like 2,000 (being the last 800, again, in her AND show), ML has been only sung like one hundred times (pheeww! ). Let's see how it sings it if she takes this song as one of her "permanents" for her setlist concerts (God wants that NOT!) The thing is that, with a recorded repertoire of more than 500 songs, she always sings and promotes the same songs... and risk little to introduce new songs that can be as succesful, if not more, than those 90's classics! I hear her doing whatever on that song except singing, lately Some of the LV performances of that song were pathetic, she was only shouting and screaming around. I also believe in the original version of the song and don't like it when artists change a song dramatically when they're on stage. Mariah's Hero performance on the X Factor is the perfect example of how this can ruin a song. Fortunately Celine usually sticks to the album version but it's understandable that when you have sung a song like 500 times you feel like changing it a little That's another reason why I would love to see a '''new old'' song on stage http://showstalker.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/celine-dion-doctorate-laval-univ-2.jpg
celine4evauk Posted January 4, 2009 at 08:57 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 08:57 PM Maybe i'm in the minority here but i always look forward to hearing LCMM Its one of the few songs she can have fun with - not worry about missing words out etc. Like she said herself a lot of people don't respond well to her uptempo songs, so the few uptempo songs she does include she likes to have fun with it. Us fans know that there are other songs (uptempo and others) that she can choose from, and maybe one day she will. There are a lot of songs from her last 4 - 5 albums i'd die to hear live. Maybe one day I have an idea. What about us fans being given the chance to choose which songs Celine sings if/when she comes back from her break?? She could do a tv special, and she could also do a TeamCeline special which they could film and sell through the fanclub. We could all nominate songs old and new and Celine could pick them out of a hat!!! On stage!!!! If that happens i'd would be brilliant
mirage Posted January 4, 2009 at 09:01 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 09:01 PM lol, today i was reading For Keeps and there is a thing she still haven't figured out...when she is not in great shape and she feels like compensating vocally, the audience goes wild...and when she performed at the top of her game, their reactions are mild... so i dont understand why she isnt playing with her voice and sound like she does when she rehearsesgod the last rehearsal in vegas with the song ANDHC

I CAN! she's been lipping TPOL/TLYM/MHWGO for ages now, so clearly whatever feelings she had for them are gone, and the only reason she still performs them, is, as réne puts it; cos the crowd (= non fans and old grannies) want these songs and the public has the last word. (YEAH RIGHT!! ) My love is Céline's most personal song since ANDHC, since Je Sais Pas and C'est Pour Toi! Of course she's feeling the lyrics, cos they are about her, about where she is now in her life and in her career. and even though it's all marvelous and amazing, she can't help wonder; I would share my whole life with you, would you do the same for me? Where is WDMHBN, TTWII, ANDHC (radio Mix), TT (in most of europe), TH, BATB, IYAMT, OOR, TR, M, CTM? those are/ were big hits! I understand she 'needs' to sing some old songs, but why the same old, same old version!? do something like they did with IA! can you imagine IACBTMN in the Classic Paradise Mix?! or a stripped down version of TPOL and MHWGO?! You can do certain things to make the songs interesting, not only for herself, but also for the diehard fans, who already heard TPOL and MHWGO a 1000 time, and STILL please the people who will only go for her 'biggest' hits. if she does continue to soley begin the evening with TOPL and and it with MHWGO, then I don't think it's strange that people won't see how much she's grown musically and she'll always be the Titanic Singer Plus one thing that bugs me so much, is in that every tour, a lot of precious time, where she can sing her own magnificent songs, are wasted by singing covers! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

SuperLove4Celine Posted January 4, 2009 at 10:22 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 10:22 PM Think back to Oprah in Vegas 2003, the 'Premiere' of AND, the day before the opening night. Oprah was backstage in the costume department, and as far as I know NONE of the stuff they were looking at (i.e. the horse head) was actually in the show... True! and the big giraffes! where were all that stuff? I don't know anything about the horse head, but I can answer the question regarding the giraffes. Apparently the point of the giraffes were to interact with the audience and Celine. However, it was decided at the last minute to scrap them entirely because it "slowed the show down." I'll always wish they would have put them into the actual show's run at least once and not simply during rehersals. Oh well. And as a special treat for you... http://www.emotionaldirections.com/gir.jpg - Joe
Lou555 Posted January 4, 2009 at 10:25 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 10:25 PM Hi, I'm Celine Dion. I'm a victim of success. I just made $500 million in six years. "She's the one who gets THE most benefit out of all...." you said Love. Not sure about that part exactly but...I agree! And don't forget Céline still does this today because she loves going on stage. Performing on stage is what she loves THE most in this crazy showbusiness life of hers. I think it's what it was mostly all about for her...untill now. She's been meeting fans and performing on stage since for ever. But now that she has a family she will take that into account for future decision making for sure. So I hope she does what inspires her, what she thinks is the best for her and family and what she really feels like doing next. I'm not going anywhere for sure!

j411celine Posted January 4, 2009 at 11:55 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 11:55 PM Celine will return to Las Vegas. There will be a contract of at least $100 million. It will be a new show, with a new concept, a new stage, new costumes, new program and a new song list. What is the source for you to say that? Anyway, sure its true, UNFORTUNATELY If thats what she really wants, go for it, but... ciao ciao Céline!! Say goodbye to your international career (if she has one today ) So her Taking Chances World Tour is not enough for you to think that she has an international career..... PLEASE! Because of doing a worldwide tour that doesn't mean she has an international career still today. She has lost A LOT of exposure in the media, thanks to the great promotion that her record company has been doing while she was in Las Vegas . If you think that she keeps today the international status that she had before 2003, just tell me how many people know that she released a new english album in 2007. How many radios have played her new music since... ermm (jogging my memory) 2003? What recognition has she had from the music industry with this new album? Ah yes, she presented some Grammy nominations, but ANY for her!! And now she'll be back to Las Vegas again... to finish her own career suicide. Dramatic? Perhaps. But things could have been different with the right decissions and above all, the right team people. But she, René, whoever (I'm tired of that) chose this sad path of oblivion, for a reason we still don't know. So predictible of her. Reney's greed has no limits and Céline's couldn't-lass-care-attitude about music is as striking as ever. Pitifulness. I do think that she has performed a lot and she seems to care more about the money rather than the quality of her performances Agree with you on that . Sometimes I think René is exploiting her. Sometimes I think he's taking advantage of Céline's "family first" attitude, so that the girl earns more money for him to gamble... again in Las Vegas, while she's working her #ss off on the stage every night I think Celine has her own mind and wouldn't go another tour like TC if she didn't want to do it....all she has to say is "NO."
Javito Posted January 4, 2009 at 11:59 PM Posted January 4, 2009 at 11:59 PM so i dont understand why she isnt playing with her voice and sound like she does when she rehearsesgod the last rehearsal in vegas with the song ANDHC What rehearsal? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EPDWYh46pTY Enjoy this one I've found with a reverb effect!! (HEAVEN!! )http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyh-WxbXabM&fmt=18 she's been lipping TPOL/TLYM/MHWGO for ages now, so clearly whatever feelings she had for them are gone, and the only reason she still performs them, is, as réne puts it; cos the crowd (= non fans and old grannies) want these songs and the public has the last word. (YEAH RIGHT!! Well Davey..but that's true. That's exactly why ML: UEC is doing so good...it has her/those hits on it, songs everyone knows. Can you imagine the reaction of the "general audience" when she's not not performing any of those songs? And in every review it says people go nuts with those songs, whereas they aren't with newer/lesser known songs. Unfortunately, those songs will always be performed..v granted, that's true. but why does sony and rene think her whole carreer exists of FIY + TPOL + LCMM + MHWGO??!! Ahh, and here we go with the COVERS matter!! Completely agree, and I can't stand why she has to resort to covers when she has cents of her own songs!. I can understand she did that in her 1985 concerts, when she has only 6 albums and all in french, she needed some english songs to catch the attention from the audience, but TODAY? After more than 30 albums and 500 songs? Incomprehensible Think back to Oprah in Vegas 2003, the 'Premiere' of AND, the day before the opening night. Oh well. And as a special treat for you... http://www.emotionaldirections.com/gir.jpg - Joe Thank you!! They looked so nice... for one thing that could have been really different on a Céline show, and they take it off "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

LOL BEST REGARDS TERE I thought this was nicely laid out =) I would like to see her personal life dreams come true. I hope she works on some new materials and does a few shows like LV but maybe in NYC or even in Canada. Whatever she does I am sure the fans will go see her and support her. Look at the people she brought to LV! http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c31/aajdd1452/Celine-Dion-ps18.jpgPhenomenal Woman
Prince Whiskers Posted January 5, 2009 at 10:52 AM Posted January 5, 2009 at 10:52 AM She sings covers because... she likes to sing them. She believes that like her idol Frank Sinatra, she can bring new life to an old song. http://cdn.webecoist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/modern-pet-solo-blown-glass.jpg
