Celine on the Oprah show - November 12, 2007

OMFG...a fan who attended the taping told me Celine sung Taking Chances, Alone, A New Day Has Come, Because You Loved Me, I Drove All Night, and My Heart Will Go On!! The older songs are probably in a medley.

 

She talked about RC, what it's like to leave Vegas, and her dad. That's all the scoop I have for now.

Ok, about the stories... "there was a biggest fan who got to request a song, then 2 other fans were surprised with songs that had a special meaning to them"

 

Celine also met a lot of fans there. That's all for now, I'll try to get some info about the performances.

That probably explains why she sang the older songs, if she sang them because they had meaning to the people on the show, then I'm glad she sang them, and it makes perfect sense.

I completely disagree and I must say that I am really getting turned off. It never freakin' fails. Each time I get excited about a new album, I get disappointed with the choice of singles (not that Alone has been confirmed yet). After all the years of waiting for Celine and Sony to have the "cogliones" to release something edgy, they choose to do it half-assed (and Celine is as much to blame for this!!!) She has never taken charge of her image and this time is not any different. She and Sony have the perfect opportunity to reinvent her image and revive her career at radio, but it is clear from the way the promotion is starting off, that they lack the conviction to go full-throttle. And you know what, it will not work. It has been difficult enough to get TC to be played on POP radio (and in large part, it has only made it there thanks to us crazy fans ). In my opinion, Celine is at a critical juncture in her career and she needs to take charge and decide if she wants to move forward. This one step in, one step out will not do. If she does not commit, she will be dissappointed like she was when D'Elles did not sell as much as she had hoped. Then Sony will really give up on her.

It was widely reported that Celine was not happy with the lukewarm reception D'Elles received in France. This is the real world baby, and as much as she lives in a bubble, I am sure she is made aware of album sales. In the past when she used to say: "I don't care about those things, all I want to do is sing", she had nothing to worry about because she was selling like hotcakes. I am sure there is much more pressure now...

That pretty much confirms ALONE as a Second single...

Celine sang "At Last" on Oprah when ANDHC was released.

Celine again sang "At Last" on Jay Leno a few weeks later.

 

Was that a second single at all?

I don't think any of us will quit Celine if they release Alone as the next single. I love the song, I just want her to do well and be successful with this album and I don't think Alone would do to well in the US. Even if it were the next single, I wouldn't love her any less~! I am thrilled with the Oprah info and have been sharing my excitement with family and friends all day. So please, don't misconstrue what I say about single choice and think that I will quit supporting her! Celine ALWAYS will rule, no matter how crappy a single choice!

I agree with you... eventhough Alone might not be the new single, it's still so bad that this song gets so much promo while instead This Time should get it! I think they all (Sony/René/Céline) ruined her new image when GTSW was released! If they'd gone with RIFOY or SFL instead she'd be like the new Kylie or something! But noooo they'd gone for a sappy song.... 1F4T same way: rocky song, ballad, then a great single without any real promotion and a video that came way too late!

 

D'Elles: great first single: crappy second single then a great single without video/single/promotion! and I'm sorry Céline is really to blame for this! 1 tv special is not sufficient! She should have recorded Hit machine etc in advance for Immensité and A Cause! And there should have been physical singles!!!

 

I guess the biggest lesson to learn from all of this, is that you can't run a big show in one place and expect your singles and albums be hits like in the past

So perhaps you are excited about the wrong thing? I for one am excited about the album, NOT its promotion. I couldn't care less about it. If it sells 1 or 5 million it doesn't matter Sales have go down and all that matters today is good quality music and TCH is full of it - even from the Swedes!

I want to enjoy this album and her performances and I think alot of us are being too harsh- we should just sit back and enjoy what we're getting and what we've got. Celine hasn't had a break in 5 years and she's gearing up for what will be her heaviest promotional tour of the Uk she's ever had, a huge world tour and everything else that'll go on with this album release. She will inject some life back into D'elles for Christmas while she's in Europe, she's coming on Xfactor, something us in the Uk thought she and her team would never be savvy enough to pull off- so much of what we've wanted has been realised. her new video is amazing- her new song is amazing, her new album is amazing, she's never looked better. When I first read that she performed those old songs on Ellen and O I was disappointed- but I'm realising that I'm going to ruin my experience of this fantastic album, of Celine in the Uk, of everything new we're getting just because she's not doing it precisely as I want it.

You know I just had to watch her appearance on Oprah back in 1997 again, where she also did a medley of her then big hits. One of the crucial Celine moments to remember. Now we're going to have that again. You can bet the days when Celine performing live on TV seemed as impossible as finding the Holy Grail are over.

It is surely about time to put all the golden oldies on the shelf for a while cuz they begun to rust a long time ago, and they are suppose to be there when Céline is an golden oldie herself and keep her floating.

 

Right now she's still young and has a career which is alive, she should dare to go all the way with it. But you can't help it, we can express wishes to a certain extent but when Céline's choices begin to influence our mood it's becoming dangerous. It's NOT worth it. Céline's music is there to enjoy it not to stress over which singles she chose and we certainly won't change her mind about Alone. So why not enjoy instead of complain?
