Because nothing says "the music of Ennio Morricone" like "the spleen-shattering vocals of Celine Dion," the Academy Awards have reportedly decided to tack her on to their tribute to the Italian composer:

 

Sources tell me that Dion has been booked to perform at this year's Academy Awards. The Canadian crooner will sing during a tribute to legendary composer Ennio Morricone, who will be receiving an honorary Oscar at the Feb. 25 ceremony.

 

I'm told lyrics have been written for Morricone's score for Once Upon a Time in America just for Dion. "The lyrics have never been heard before," one source says.

 

We realize Dion hasn't performed at the Oscars in a few years, and that the bigwigs at the Academy probably feel that they need to fill their Celine-quota, but really--couldn't she have filled in for James Taylor instead?

Seriously, Shane lifted the melody from Once Upon a Time in America and Morricone is credited on the track.

The official press release has been spread:

 

LOS ANGELES —  Celine Dion will unveil her new song, "I Knew I Loved You," during a tribute to Italian composer Ennio Morricone at this year's Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Wednesday.

 

Morricone, who will receive an honorary Oscar at the Feb. 25 awards, orchestrated the song for 1984's "Once Upon a Time in America," directed by Sergio Leone.

 

Songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman wanted to write lyrics for the song, but the film's producers felt none were needed. The Bergmans got their chance with Dion's version.

 

Morricone, 78, has received original score Oscar nominations for "Days of Heaven," "The Mission," "The Untouchables," "Bugsy" and "Malena."

 

The new rendition of "I Knew I Loved You," produced by Quincy Jones, will appear on Morricone's upcoming greatest-hits album and on Dion's forthcoming record.

Le blues du bussinessman  - Juno 91 : she starts too late

 

Same song in 99 during the same ceremony : j'aurais voulu être un artiseeeeeeeee" the end of the note , her voice went away...

 

My heart will go on - Oscars.... what a awful rendition ! It's the night whe she was about to break "the heart of ocean", isn't it?And I think it's the same performance when she miss the note... 

 

All by myself - grammy award with David Foster at the piano - her voice "broke" during the note...

1.-Celine has done hundreds of presentations in great events, and after 4 o 5 mistakes then you use the word " ALWAYS ".

 

2.- I guess you know nothing about music... those presentations you mentioned are between the greatest !!!! and all the people at Juno´s and grammy are MUSICIANS and thay clapped her in those momments you say she failed.... So you should be someone perfect....

3.- Those awful presentations are the most deep ever, so dhe´s allowed to fail (see LBDBM, both presentation were soooo emotional), all by myself is a song not everybody can sing.... and MHWGO was a very decent perfomance at the oscar, and she won so it doesn´t matter...

 

So please... think before writting....

What the hell is wrong with this person. Celine is not a fracking Cylon those slight imperfections this person speaks of is what makes her perfect in the first place. Try to rember that Celine is a human, not a Cylon. I would like to see you sing in front of a bunch of people and if you don't get nervous and nail every note on the dot. Hehh, hehh.
