Rene criticizing the movie aired last Sunday on CBC:

If someone can..a translation for the ones who dont speak french would be good :flowers:

TRANSLATION:

CÉLINE ON CBC

For René Angélil, the made for TV movie Céline, that aired on CBC Sunday night, is of no interest, "a movie filled with errors and of false information".

According to Céline Dion's manager and husband , the movie aired on CBC, which was watched by 761,000 people, was the lowest of the lows, "an incredible biography that has nothing to do with the singer's career nor life" he stated to the Journal de Montréal.

René Angélil has no plan to sue the producer of the movie at this time, but is very disappointed that CBC aired such a product. "Movies of this kind are often made without the authorisation of the people concerned, said Mr. Angélil, and the result is often of bad taste."

The movie showed a very authorative Thérese Dion and errors in the chronology of events that marked Céline Dion's life and career were noted.

FAITHFUL TO REALITY?

"Each scene has to be meticulously verified" had confided the producer, Laszlo Barna, last year while shooting the movie, saying to be faithful to reality, "a truth more interesting than fiction".

"We shoot series of quality with Canadian value" he had precised, stating that he had also told the story of other great Canadians like Henry Morgentaler, Sue Rodriguez, Shania Twain and Roméo Dallaire.

According to Mr. Barna, his movie could not be controversial because he made it for his mother, a Céline Dion fan. On the movie set, the producer admited being "fascinated by the chemistry that resulted from the combination of René's genius and Céline's talent" and passionate about their love story and courage.

Laszlo Barna, of Barna-Alper Productions, based in Toronto, did not return our call yesterday.

OH MY GOD, i just was the movie, this is soooo wrong, is very inaccurate.

She sings If you asked me to with the Yamaha contest outfit.

After James Horner pitched MHWGO to Celine, Celine and Rene talked about making the relationship public. Come on!, the relationship was public almost since the colour of my love, not after my heart will go on...

I don't know, i guess they make just to earn big movie since is a movie about Celine, but the movie is not good...

Hey Guys

Not sure if anyone else saw this, (I only came across it as I was channel hopping)

The film about Celine that has been mentioned on the forum before was on Diva TV last night at 9.00pm in the UK (Sky channel 269 or Virgin Media 192 or follow the link (http://www.divatv.co.uk/default.aspx) I happened to flick past and then saw Celine's name as the film is entitled 'Celine'!

I know a lot of you may have seen the film or at least the advertisement before, but if not...

Heres the trailor for those who haven't seen it :

Just wanted to say the film was a very poor refelction of Celine, Rene, her family and her career. Some parts really made me cringe as being the Celine fan that I am, know that a lot of the film was made up and the characters were very inaccurate!!

Thought I'd post this on here as I'm sure Diva Tv will be repeating this film over the coming weeks, although I have just looked at this coming week and it's not in the schedule for then. Watching the film is a good measure of how well we actually know Celine and the producer of the film doesn't lol -_-

I recorded it. For thoses of you that didn't manage to see it, I know you can buy it off sites like Ebay and Amazon - but would urge you to save your money.

I sat through the film correcting most of the plot/story to my husband, as it isn't a true refelction of Celine and her life.

Cheers guys

Charlotte :D

I finally had a chance to see this movie. They've been playing it every Saturday on We for the past few weeks. The beginning started out okay and somewhat accurate and then it was just a disaster. The whole portion after Celine starts revealing her love for Rene was just completely misreported. I don't even want to get into details about what was wrong...it's just much easier to say that the writers of this script obviously stopped following Celine's career when she became famous in the US. I know there's only so much they can do in the allotted time, but there's nothing about this movie that made me think better of Celine. Usually people can watch a biographical movie about a person and just begin to see them in a better light because they can understand their circumstances, etc. This movie just elaborated so much on Celine and Rene's age difference like it was the only thing to ever happen to the woman in her career. Two thumbs down. Edited by idroveallnight

The only thing that connects film with Celine Dion-its title Celine.I watched it some minutes ago,it had so many errors. If I wasn't her fan I could think that Celine sings only English songs, because in film even Eurovision song in English and not any French song. For me this film is like science fiction, because it's not connected with reality. The film is terrible.

I know what you mean.

I also understand René's reaction to this....Céline deserved so much better...

Sad enough to say but this movie is what started my obsession with Celine. (Before seeing this movie I was just like any other person out in the world who didn't like Celine one bit, but now look im on here at least 10 times a day.) One day I turned on the t.v and started to watch this movie called Celine not knowing anything about it I fell in love with the movie, the plot about a little girl following her dream and making it come true in every aspect. I didn't realize it was about Celine till she sang WDMHBN, I was in tears when Rene had the heart attack and when Celine couldn't tell the interviewer about her love. That movie changed my thought of her from a very over the top French Canadian to the sweetest most generous person and lets not forget the best singer EVER!!! Now when I watch that movie it makes me laugh and mad how off they really are from her speaking English, the years are totally messed up it either makes her to young or too old. I mean they made her sing I Feel Too Much before she even met Foster and lets not forget asking her to do the Titanic before she was even married. Edited by somethingblue474

So I've never seen this because it came out during my "Celine hiatus" (I've basically been out of the loop between early 2000's to earlier this year) - and I've been kind of avoiding it since because I'm afraid it's going to be really terrible and will make me cringe.

I've read that it's terribly inaccurate and gets the chronology all wrong - but other than that, is it terrible? Painful acting? Cringe-inducing dialogue?

Should I skip? Or is it worth the time provided you overlook the inaccuracies?

Nothing about it is worth watching.

Except maybe for the effort to follow 80's fashion & hairstyle and the few songs the invented for the movie (like the now infamous "this time I'm going higher" thing) lol ^_^

The first half with young celine is better than the older celine. For me that's when the film gets irritating, especially with stuff being factually wrong.

OK, so I watched it on Hulu, and here's the verdict.

While they got a lot wrong, they got some surprisingly small random things right. (Like eating desert on the back of the plate! Or the "how many pairs of shoes does a little girl need?" line :) The Lise Payette interview. Or that shot of the entire family watching little Celine on TV - we've all seen that picture.) So, I think whoever made this did their research and had their heart in the right place.

I thought Jodelle Ferland playing little Celine was great and the entire beginning of the movie was reasonably solid (for a made-for-TV biopic) - though the fact that they all sang in English and had not a trace of quebecois accent was just ridiculous. Learned some things I didn't know (like the fact that Le Vieux Baril burnt down).

So, it's not all as bad as I thought it would be.

But there is certainly no shortage of cringe-worthy moments here! And all these random songs... but guess they just couldn't get the rights.

No biopic is going to cover everything and it's understood the filmmakers will have to take creative license with some material for the good of the drama - so the fact that a lot is missing or not quite right is understandable. They clearly took a lot of liberties with a massive chunk of her career - but I guess that's they story they were trying to tell. And I get it - the focus here was not on her career but on the human element and the love story, which, let's face it, is far more interesting than awards and record sales. So I understand what they were trying to do, but if that was the case, then they should have just cut it off at The Colour of My Love and not artificially accelerate the whole Titanic and Vegas thing. That was just unnecessarily odd, and I thought the second part of the film really cheapened what is a beautiful love story.

Still, painful as this was to watch at times, I appreciate that someone actually had taken the time to make it, though I think overall it's a cheesy TV biopic that's made way before it's time. This story is due for a better treatment in good time; but it needs to be bilingual (or at least not pretend that the entire Dion clan was singing in English!), and it needs to use the actual songs because anything else is just very bizarre.

Well, that, and a better script.

I hope some day (in my lifetime lol) we see an official biopic. One with quebecois at the start (easy to do English subtitles nowadays, and it definitely wouldn't put people off seeing it, all the facts in the correct order, and using the correct songs. To do this it would have to be official. But I hope it does one day. There's so much that some fans and Joe Public really don't know. And the huge commitment that Celine put on herself would put a lot of today's singers to shame. As long as it has a great script and actors it would totally work.
