celinefan1985 Posted August 16, 2007 at 01:59 PM Posted August 16, 2007 at 01:59 PM Where does Celine's heart beat now?Pop singer name's latest album, The Woman in Me, is the same title that has sold 10 million copies for Shania Twain Randy Boswell, CanWest News ServicePublished: Thursday, August 16, 2007 It worked -- big time -- for Canadian country-pop superstar Shania Twain: her 1995 album, titled The Woman in Me, sold more than 10 million copies, grabbed a Grammy and catapulted the small-town Ontario songstress to worldwide fame. Now, Canada's other globally celebrated female vocalist -- small-town Quebec's queen of musical melodrama, Celine Dion -- has revealed the name of her much-anticipated, first English-language studio album in three years: The Woman in Me. She's kidding, right? Wrong. "I think this album represents a positive evolution in my career," Dion said of her version of The Woman in Me -- to go on sale Nov. 13 across North America -- in a USA Today article this week. "I'm feeling strong, maybe a little gutsier than in the past, and just as passionate about music and life as I ever was." Fan websites for both Twain and Dion quickly lit up with puzzled postings after word spread about the coincidental CD titles from Canada's two biggest pop-music exports of all time. "This sucks. Why does she have to use the same title as Shania?" a Twain fan from New York seethed at shaniaforums.com. "I am furious. Tell Celine to get her own life." One Dion devotee mused online that "knowing that it's a million-selling album from Shania Twain, I don't think they'll keep this name." Another agreed, remarking: "Sounds too weird." So Canada, get ready for some wisecracks about a new duet by the mega-successful northern divas called The Women in Us. A call was made Tuesday to Dion's promotional representatives in Canada, Toronto-based Sony BMG Canada, asking if her upcoming album would include a cover version of Twain's title track from the original The Woman in Me, which might explain the echo effect in the name of Dion's CD. The request prompted an effort by officials there to shed light on the branding oddity, followed Wednesday morning by a response that "this topic has raised much discussion" and would require word from "Celine's camp" -- presumably in the U.S. -- to get sorted out. "We are waiting on the official press release to the media that announces the album title, street date, producers, etc.," Sony BMG Canada told CanWest News Service later in the day. But the company's website in Norway already indicates Dion's The Woman in Me will hit music stores in Europe on Nov. 12. A call to Twain's promotional representatives in Nashville, Tenn., the Mercury record label at Universal Music Group, produced a stunned, non-verbal utterance from one spokesperson but, as yet, no formal statement. For now, that leaves a message of bewilderment from someone at the Twain fan site as the most insightful comment on the matter: "There are so many phrases she could have used...why 'The Woman In Me'?" [source]Same article in the Montreal Gazette.. All I can say is they couldn't have asked for better press! This is turning out to be quite the hot little topic which will help people know she has a new record out. Quote

kdw123 Posted August 16, 2007 at 05:48 PM Posted August 16, 2007 at 05:48 PM (edited) I'm fine with "The Woman In Me" title. Who cares if it has been used before....I had never heard of Shania's Title until I read it on this forum and I live in the US so I'm sure I'm not the only one that would not recognize the same title. Plus it's only words....what I mean is just because she uses a title same as another who cares. Same titles of songs are used all the time, but sometimes they are completely different songs. Maybe they will change the title and maybe they will not...and maybe "The Woman In Me" was never the official title anyway and just another of the many rumors out there that someone printed. And just because Sony Norway (?) printed the title doesn't really mean anything. A few months ago, I think it was the President of Sony UK visited Las Vegas and stated that Celine was over half way complete on recording her new English CD and then around June I read that Rene stated that she had only recordered 4 songs for it....so just because they work for Sony doesn't really mean they know everything. Do you actually they would had created this pr attention on purpose. Hell no. Any pr from sony is only made by coincidence, never thought. Seriously, no, no and no they did not choose the title in order to create a media buzz. And no, it ain't a big deal taking previous titles, they do it all the time - why?? I have no clue but they do it.(Cry Me A River (J Mickey Mouse Timberlake) - a title from a classic jazz balladBoulevard Of Broken Dreams (Dreamday) - a title from a wonderful jazz blues classicCheek To Ceek (Sarah Hotnights) - a title from the super classic which everyone knows the first lines of "Heaven, I'm in heaven...") And people here said no one would notice. I didn't know about the Shania album either but it smelled really fishy when I saw the title for the first time. There hasn't been any doubt they HAVE to change it. That ain't a title which is gonna work. Glad this article came up so the Céline team finally opened their eyes. What is so sad is that they will change it now knowing of this article with no sense of artistic feeling behind the descission, just as when they chose The Woman In Me in the first place. Changing it as easily as they will will only confirm that there is still not enough artistic spirit behind her releases. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

kdw123 Posted August 16, 2007 at 09:08 PM Posted August 16, 2007 at 09:08 PM If Celine herself picked the title "The Woman In Me" then I hope that they keep this title no matter what a report or people on this forum have to say. If she picked this title, then there must be some meaning behind the title or the songs on the album express the woman in Celine! To me, the title is only just that..a title....it's the song on the album that count. I have written this before, but what kind of a title is "D'elles"? To me that is not a great title, but the songs on the CD are fantastic and isn't that what matters in the long run! Quote
fred Posted August 16, 2007 at 09:33 PM Posted August 16, 2007 at 09:33 PM D'Elles is a good title if you ask me (to bad the entire album lives up to the concept, having ONLY femaleproduction on it, female producers etc...) it is an answer to D'Eux and it sums up what they want to promote the album as (as an album by women, we all know the work of these women has been edited by men and then interpreted by men then wrapped in by men). So I don't see anything wrong with that title. I haven't seen a bad title on a Céline album before The Woman In Me, that is why I react to it's cheesy feeling. And yea, IF this title has been choosen by Céline and it presents ands sums up an important artistic feeling about the album it should definetly be titled that, even though I don't like it myself. If there's no artistic reason behind it - change it!!! And yea, like someone else sugested Eyes On Me is a REALLY good title for a Céline album, very fitting when it comes to where she is in her carreer and the attention this album is getting. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
