Durban, 30 November 2006] Value retailer Mr Price confirmed today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with new event ticketing agency, Ticketconnection SA.

 

Ticketconnection is the brainchild of UK-based company Concorde Equity and is the newest entrant in the South African event ticketing industry.

 

Ticketconnection, which has web and call centre facilities, will now through it’s agreement with the Mr Price Group have retail outlets through Mr Price, Mr Price Home and Mr Price Sport outlets nationwide. The new partnership will enable ticket purchasers either to collect tickets at Mr Price Stores or buy them directly at the Group’s retail outlets.

 

Ticketconnection’s online and call centre sales launch in South Africa on 2 December with the mezzanine tickets for the much anticipated performance of Celine Dion at the ‘Unite of the Stars’ gala at the Coca Cola Dome.

 

Tickets will be available for collection from 11 December at 180 selected Mr Price outlets. Tickets will also be available for purchase directly from these selected Mr Price outlets from 11 December

 

Mr Price CEO Alastair Mc Arthur said: “This is something quite new for South African retail consumers and we are delighted with this partnership, which we believe will provide added value to our customers and the South African public. We have a broad and geographically well placed network of stores and this will provide ease of access and convenience for those buying tickets for South African events.”

 

Selected stores are highlighted on the Ticketconnection website and customers will be able to purchase and collect tickets at Mr Price’s full complement of 450 stores by February 2007.

 

Mr Price is also the sponsor of the South African leg of Celine Dions upcoming world tour. The Unite of the Stars gala banquet is the first event on the tour schedule with a series of concerts throughout the country thereafter. Dion is one of the greatest artists of all time, selling over a billion records.

 

Ticketconnection Financial director, Darren Ebbs commented: “Currently most South African event promoters and venues have predominantly one ticketing option. Ticketconnection provides them with an alternative that focuses on providing an exceptional service offering to both our clients and the public.

 

“Through our strategic partnership with Mr Price, we are able provide - amongst other services - a competitive ticketing rate and the opportunity for our clients to interface right across the country in locations as diverse as Sandton and Soweto. Accessibility to ticket purchasing to all South Africans is key to us. Apart from their current network, Mr Price is planning to open a further 17 stores by February 2007 and with future stores planned in a variety of locations, we believe we will achieve our goal.”

 

Ticketconnection also provide’s a South African first by allowing customers to “VIP Q ONLINE”. Customers will be able to enter their details on the “VIP Q ONLINE” page on the Ticketconnection website, to receive prior notification of upcoming events and receive pre-sales opportunities for selected events prior to them going on sale.

 

Client services manager, Nicole Elkon added: “We have weighed up the pros and cons of ticketing systems around the world and designed the components of a system that is both client and consumer friendly. Apart from the value added items we provide, what we believe stands out is our exceptional quality of the service that extends from the access and use of our website, by the client and the public, to the quality and security of the physical printed ticket.”

The Coca-Cola Dome in South Africa, where Celine will be performing can sit almost 20,000 people. If there IS a banquet set-up, there could be 4000 seats on the floor alone, for the patrons. This will definitely be amazing and will be a once-in-a-lifetime performance and event.

Anyway it's so great to have Céline touring SA. AT LAST! It was due long long ago!

 

Still I don't see her coming to any post-soviet-block countries. Garou did that, tho but I am not sure about Céline. It's almsot certain she won't come to where big stars already have been (eastern Europe).

After reading that Celine will be performing here in SA as part of the "Unite of the Stars" show, I emailed the company selling tickets for the event for more info. Well, this is what I got back...

At this stage we are only selling complete tables of 10. Should any

individual seats become available, if you could let me know how many and in which

category and I will keep you informed.

Unfortunately I can't upload the PDF document referred to!

This is a rather expensive show with tables of 10 ranging between R28,000 and R68,000 (South African Rands) but usually there is also a "public" version for the masses. I haven't seen anything about this announced yet.

 

Anyone else have any other information?

I wish Céline and JJG would tour together. His concert was magical. songs, arrangemnts, crowd, the whole atmosphere...
