Bellamy Posted October 19, 2005 at 09:26 AM Posted October 19, 2005 at 09:26 AM Betting Extra - Congratulations: Eurovision 50 Betting Odds - Part One This weekend, Eurovision turns 50. And just like many people do on their 50th birthday, Eurovision is inviting a number of people from it's past to Copenhagen so that everyone can get sad about how old they all are and how none of their lives turned out as well as they imagined when they were children. To mark Eurovision 50, the 14 best-ever Eurovision songs are going head-to-head in a fierce battle to find the greatest Eurovision song in the entire history of Eurovision. And guess what - we're going to bet on it. Over the course of the rest of the week, we'll be looking at the betting odds of each of the Eurovision 50 entries. And that starts today, with help from Betfair.com... Abba: Waterloo - Eurovision winner in 1974. Easily the favourite to win Eurovision 50, Waterloo launched the long and messy career of Abba. Back in 1974, The Wombles were considered to be an appropriate Eurovision interval act, and Abba faced stiff competition from the likes of Olivia Newton-John and, um, Poogy. Waterloo probably won the competition because it so accurately made the connection between a massive, bloody, devastating naval battle and the fluffy feeling of being in love. Current odds - 1/4 Cliff Richard: Congratulations - Eurovision entry in 1968. A possible long-shot winner, as Congratulations has become so totally synonymous with celebrating that they sing it instead of Happy Birthday in South Korea. Congratulations didn't even win Eurovision - it came second to a Spanish song called La La La. Those pesky Spanish. The best thing about Eurovision in 1968 was name of the act from Monaco - Line & Willy, which sounds the title of the world's filthiest sitcom. Current odds - 23/2 Brotherhood Of Man: Save Your Kisses For Me - Eurovision winner in 1976. Bizarrely, this nonsense jingle of a dance is the best-selling Eurovision song of all time, shifting six million units despite the fact that - even by Eurovision standards - the song is a massive clump of s***. Special mention should go to the 1976 Finnish entry - a song called Pump Pump. Pump Pump, you were robbed. Current odds - 31/2 Celine Dion: Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi - Eurovision winner in 1988. As some people wonder what the world would be like if Hitler had been killed at birth, we here at hecklerspray often ponder what the world would be like if more people voted for Hot Eyes in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Maybe we wouldn't have had to put up with Celine Dion's stinking abortion of a career. Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi is made up of all the usual bland "touch the stars, live your dream" aspirational cock that Dion has based her entire career on. You may have guessed that we don't want this song to win. Current odds - 10/1 We'll continue with these Eurovision 50 betting odds throughout the rest of the week, but in the meantime, check out the General Special Bets section of Betfair.com to see the very latest Eurovision 50 betting odds for all the contestants. And you'll even get free stuff when you join up - look...source: http://www.hecklerspray.com/hecklerspray/2...ng_extra_e.html Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Ronny83 Posted October 20, 2005 at 03:05 PM Author Posted October 20, 2005 at 03:05 PM How to vote for Céline: Televoting / SMS numbers activated during the show Vote for your all time favourite Eurovision song - All voting numbers below During ‘Congratulations’ to celebrate 50 years of the Eurovision Song Contest, live from Copenhagen on 22 October, you will be able to vote for your favourite Eurovision song. Through a process of online voting at eurovision.tv, 14 all-time favourites* have already been chosen. In each country in which ‘Congratulations’ will be broadcast**, TV audiences will be able to vote via televoting and SMS voting. For this special Song Contest celebration, viewers will – in contrast to the “normal” Eurovision Song Contest . be able to vote for songs from the country in which they are living! So if, for example, you are living in Ireland, you can vote for Johnny Logan’s song ‘Hold me now’ and/or ‘What’s another year’. Also in contrast to the Eurovision Song Contest, the winning song of Congratulations will be chosen by 50% public televoting and 50% jury vote. However, in case of a tie between two songs, the points resulting from the public televote will be used to break the tie. The telephone and SMS voting numbers, which are activateded during the show, are announced below. When can you vote? There will be two televoting rounds during the show. In the first televoting round, lasting around 90 minutes, you will be able to vote for any of the 14 songs – five of which will be selected for the Final. In the second round, you will have 10 minutes to vote again for the five Finalists. Round 1At the beginning of the show, you will see a table listing your national televoting numbers and the running order number of each song. So, if you already know which song you want to vote for, you will be able to call or send your SMS straight away. If you have not made up your mind yet, just watch the 14 songs and vote accordingly. The five songs chosen by viewers and the national juries will go through to the second nerve-wracking round of televoting! Round 2In this round, you will be shown a list of the five best songs. By televoting or sending an SMS to the same televoting numbers as before – and using the same running order numbers as in round one – you will be able to decide which song should be named the best Eurovision song ever. If you are still not sure which song to vote for, just watch the recap of the five best songs and vote accordingly. You will have around 10 minutes to place your vote. After the second televoting round has ended and the votes of the viewers and the national juries have been combined, we will have the big announcement – the songs finishing third, second and… first will be revealed! By televoting, you can help to shape Eurovision history and decide on the best Eurovision song ever. How to vote? To vote via telephone please dial the national televoting number + the running order number of your favourite song (song number from 01 to 14). Example for fixed line telephony:The telephone numbers for the televoters in the Netherlands are: 0909 – 31310 + 01 to vote for song number 1 = ‘Congratulation(s)’ by Cliff Richard 0909 – 31310 + 02 to vote for song number 2 = ‘What’s another year’ by Johnny Loganup to: 0909 – 31310 + 14 to vote for song number 14 = ‘My Number One’ by Helena PaparizouExample for SMS voting:To use SMS voting in the Netherlands:Write the running order number of your favourite song in the body of the SMS and send it to 3111. For example, a Dutch voter who wishes to vote for song number 05, which is ‘Ein bisschen Frieden’ by Nicole, must write 05 in an SMS and send it to 3111. Please note that the short code (running order number) of your favourite song will stay the same for both voting rounds. For example, ‘Waterloo’ by Abba is song number 07, so you should add 07 to your national televoting number. Should Abba make it to the Final, they will have the suffix -07 in the second televoting round, too. *The 14 songs for which you can vote can be found here: http://www.eurovision.tv/english/1880.htm **These are the participating broadcasters. If you live in one of these countries you will be able to participate in the televote: http://www.eurovision.tv/english/1869.htm Televoting and SMS numbers AndorraVoting Number: no call participation SMS Short Code: 777Keywords: 01 to 14Tariff in country currency incl. Ronny83 Posted October 22, 2005 at 10:13 AM Author Posted October 22, 2005 at 10:13 AM (edited) COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- The European Song Contest celebrates 50 years of glamour, glitz and catchy pop tunes with a special jubilee show Saturday that lets viewers in 31 countries pick the best song in the popular event's history. Eurovision fans have narrowed the field to 14 songs including Swedish pop sensation Abba's 1974 winner "Waterloo," Celine Dion's Swiss entry "Ne partez pas sans moi" of 1988 and this year's winner "My Number One" by Greece's Helena Paparizou. The songs will be performed by the original artists or by other performers. Viewers of the show broadcast live from the Danish capital will cast their votes on the 14 entries by telephone, in the same way that the winner is selected in the regular Eurovision contest. The two-hour show will feature performances by British bands Brotherhood of Man and Bucks Fizz, Ireland's Johnny Logan, Israel's Dana International, Marie Myriam of France and Swedish singer Carola Haggkvist. Switzerland's Lys Assia, who was the contest's first winner in 1956, also will be on stage along with Paparizou, while Dion will appear in pre-recorded footage. The show, to be staged at a downtown Copenhagen concert and exhibition hall, has been titled "Congratulations," after Cliff Richard's second-placed song in the 1968 edition of the contest. Richard will not attend the event. Each year millions of viewers across Europe and the Middle East watch the Eurovision contest, which was created in 1956 by the European Broadcasting Union. The show is often derided as a showcase of kitsch and the winners often fade into obscurity -- although it launched the career of supergroup Abba. "Either you love or you love to hate it," Mads Lebech, a Copenhagen mayor said on the eve of the anniversary event. "Anyhow, it's great entertainment."Source: http://edition.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/...tion=cnn_latest Edited October 22, 2005 at 10:16 AM by Ronny83 Quote The Celine Dion Italian fanbase - CelineDionItalia.com
