Katrina and Renars to host Eurovision show

Katrina Leskanich (pictured) and Renars Kaupers will host ”Congratulations” the show that will officially celebrate 50 years of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Congratulations” will be broadcast on 22 October live from the Forum in Copenhagen. The two-hour show will feature videos of fourteen songs, mostly selected through an online poll by fans of the contest. The songs will compete to be named the best Eurovision Song of all time. Bookmakers currently place ‘Waterloo’, the Swedish winner for Abba in 1974 as the favourite to win. During the show, viewers will be able to phone in and vote for their favourite entry. Some previous Eurovision contestants will also take part in the show reprising their songs. Tickets for the show went on sale at the end of August and sold out in under an hour.

Although the show will be shown in many countries that take part in the annual contest, so far two of the ‘Big 4’ countries seem unlikely to show it. French and British TV have turned down options to broadcast the show. Broadcasters from Italy, Luxembourg, Albania, Hungary, Monaco, Belarus, Moldova and Estonia have yet to agree to show the event.

Katrina Leskanich won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 with the song ‘Love Shine a Light’ performed by Katrina and the Waves. Renars Kaupers is the lead singer of Brainstorm, who came third with the first ever Latvian Eurovision song ‘My Star’ in 2000. He co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 when it was held in Riga.

I really doubt she'll be there. Even if she did compete, how could a song like ne partez sans moi win against Waterloo?

But if she goes, it would be cool to see her in the outfit from 88...huäch, horrible.

Just found some other info. On eurosong2005.com its mentioned that Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi will be competeing, and it lists celine as the original performer not as the performer of the song in copenhagen.

According to many swedish sources (mainly tabloids) ABBA has declined taking part in the show, and even showing up.

For months, it was unsure how the Eurovision Song Contest's 50th anniversary show Congratulations would look like. Today, this comes to an end, as we are in the honourable position to present you a first rough overview of the show's line-up... thanks to an inside source! As the show's final line-up can end last-minute, remember it's a rough, preliminary version.

Opening
After the traditional Eurovision-hymne, Cliff Richard will open the show, telling a story about victory and 50 years Eurovision Song Contest. Host broadcaster DR's radio orchestra will play several songs; Congratulations, Dinge dong, A-ba-ni-bi, C'est le dernier qui a parlé, Dschinghis Khan and finally... Love shine a light, which seems to be an excellent moment to welcome the show's host, Katrina Leskanich.

The songs
After a video about 50 winners of 50 years Eurovision Song Contest, Carola (Sweden 1983, 1991) will announce the first of the 14 participating songs in the all-time favourites contest, Congratulations. After the original performance, Sir Cliff Richard will tell a small story and he will announce Massiel (Spain 1968), who will present the second song What's another year. The hosts will announce the third song Diva. Dana International (Israel 1998) will announce the fourth song, Eres tu. After a theme video - we are not going to reveil the surprises - Ein bisschen Frieden will be introduced. Sandra Kim (Belgium 1986) will announce Nel blu di pinto di blu, better known as Volare. The Bobbysocks (Norway 1985) will introduce Waterloo. The performance of the 1974 winner will be combined with a Finnish surprise!

After another theme video, the hosts will introduce Fly on the wings of love. Riva (Yugoslavia 1989) will introduce Poupée de cire poupée de son. After a break, Marie Myriam (France 1977) will introduce Everyway that I can. Sertab (Turkey 2003) will introduce Ne partez pas sans moi. After a special message from Céline Dion, Hold me now will be introduced. Cheryl Baker, one of the members of Bucks Fizz, will introduce Save your kisses for me. Lys Assia, the winner of the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, will introduce the last Eurovision Song Contest winner My number one.

Time to televote!
After the 14 songs, the first televoting window opens. After the interval act (another surprise), the first voting ends and a seven minute medley will be performed by Dana International, Carola, Alsou, Fabrizio Faniello, Richard Herrey, Birthe Kjaer and Marie Myriam. After a break, Johnny Logan will take care of another interval act.

After the top five has been announced, televoters have 4 more minutes to vote for their all-time favourite. After a second medley, the second televoting window closes and Nicole & Hugo (Belgium 1973) will say a word to the viewers. Ronan Keating will perform and another surprise theme video, the Olsen Brothers will perform a small medley as well.

And the winner is...
The winner of Congratulations will be known around 23:30 CET, which also marks the end of a memorable show which will most likely exceed all expectations!

Competing songs and nostalgic entertainment
All of the participants will have a busy night in Forum. Some will be presenting the competing songs, and others will in different ways be part of the nostalgic entertainment during the two and a half hour long show.

The 14 songs will be shown in the original video clippings from when they participated in the ESC. When the clip is shown, it will be complemented by dancers, lightshows and other visual effects on stage.

AND IT COULD BE A GREAT PROMOTION FOR THE ON NE CHANGE PAS ALBUM. BUT BUT BUT, I THINK THE SOUND OF THE SONG IS A LITTLE DATED I THINK THE SHOULD ARRANGE THE MUSIC TO SOUND A LITTLE BIT MORE 2005... WHAT DO U THINK? :huh:

WOW! Wo-hooo! The news is pectacular! I hope Celine will go this year's Eurovision Contest. And it would be so nice really to see and to hear her singing that song again with her new voice, new look... And some new outfit I hope. Coz \her 88's outfit was quite... Silly! :mf_hide:
