PatrickDion22 Posted August 14, 2010 at 04:09 PM Posted August 14, 2010 at 04:09 PM I was just wondering who here is bilingual, or knows two, or more different languages. I couldn't help but ask because there are so many different language boards on here. While I mostly write on the English-language board, I sometimes go on the Italian board just to read a few threads. I am not completey fluent in Italian, but can easily carry a conversation, and would be okay if suddenly thrown in an Italian-speaking nation like Italy. My ultimate goal would be to become fluent in Italian and French, although I heard French is quite difficult to learn. Fortunately, Italian is the closest language to French, so it wouldn't be terribly difficult to learn. Anyway, this is the end of my rambling (I tend to do that). I'm looking forward to your replies! As a new language, I'd like to learn Spanish or even Italian, I think it's a beautiful language Good luck for learning French Quote http://a.imageshack.us/img829/3193/sarahbrightman.jpg
reamary Posted August 14, 2010 at 04:55 PM Posted August 14, 2010 at 04:55 PM I love different languages and I love to learn them!! I'm fluent in Finnish, English and French and then I can speak little Swedish and some Spanish, but am nowhere NEAR fluent with them... About learning French, I don't think it's any harder to learn than any other language! Especially if you know Spanish or Italian, cause they resemble each other a little. Basically I think if and when you have a good motivation in studying and learning, it's not that hard (to learn any language). charmedceline Posted August 14, 2010 at 05:18 PM Posted August 14, 2010 at 05:18 PM I was born in Germany, so my native language is obviously German. Since I'm half Italian, I needed to learn Italian. Then because of Céline, I got the motivation to learn English and French. Now I know English and French much better than Italian. The next language I'd like to learn is Spanish Quote

I'd also like to learn Spanish (I'm absolutely in love with Barcelona).I used to want to learn Italian as well, but after I visited San Remo I changed my mind. No offence, guys. I'm actually thinking of moving and right now I have three countries in my mind - Canada, France and Spain (preferrably Catalonia), hence the languages. Quote

In our equivalent for high school we have a certain amount of compulsory courses and then a bunch of optional ones you can take if you want. Although I think it's different these days and you can start with other languages and then start studying English a bit later. We basically have the chance to study a bunch of languages through out the years, but the compulsory ones are English and Swedish. Edited August 19, 2010 at 03:17 PM by Salla Quote

So we do get to study English for many years in Finland, and start at an early age. But I think, that it has a huge impact too that we have a chance to hear a lot of English on TV, cause the majority of programs is in English (I think) here, with subtitles, so not dubbed in Finnish. And that you are on boards like this.
