A New Day Has Come Posted October 11, 2008 at 11:17 PM Posted October 11, 2008 at 11:17 PM I know a little bite of Spanish the basic to get by on. Quote
ZoraSourit Posted October 11, 2008 at 11:19 PM Posted October 11, 2008 at 11:19 PM My native language is portuguese. At school I learnt to speak english (I had classes for 7 long years) and french (I had classes for 3 years only). And last year I started working at a Spanish Hospital in Tenerife, so I also learnt spanish. About 2 years ago I started to learn german by myself but it is too hard and my german adventure came to an end few weeks after it started. I only know the basics. So, 4 languages: portuguese, english, french and spanish. Sriline Posted October 12, 2008 at 12:38 AM Posted October 12, 2008 at 12:38 AM Wooow, some of you speak so many different languages!!! My native language is GERMAN I learned ENGLISH at school from the 5th class on. Then I chose to learn FRENCH four years later to understand Céline's songs . (but neither my French nor my English are really good ) For studying at a university I had to learn LATIN (I study 'history of art', and we you to be able to read the old latin inscriptions in cathedrals etc. ... I found it really hard to learn it ) and this semester I' have to take courses in SPANISH and ITALIAN...And I'll end up mixing it all together, French, English and Latin, Spanish and Italian:doh: 'Fr-english' and 'Sp-italian' Quote http://shutter05.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/14/001/59/77/60/92/CIRIud6KlzVLEUhFOYvpL66TBTT1LAM9022A.jpg

Wunderkind Posted October 12, 2008 at 03:55 AM Posted October 12, 2008 at 03:55 AM (edited) My first language it's spanish. I speak and I write english pretty good. And now i've started learning french. It's beautiful language, but you have to be careful with the pronounciation!! You can make a mistake easily. My french teacher cames from France and she is always surprised with the very different meanings of ONE word in spanish. Sometimes, she even can'T believe, and sometimes she laughs when we explained the meanings!! Edited October 12, 2008 at 03:57 AM by Wunderkind Quote

Allie Posted October 12, 2008 at 09:12 AM Posted October 12, 2008 at 09:12 AM (edited) English is my first language, but I took French for a few years...I can't form sentences well but I can understand a good amount. I've picked up a little bit of Spanish because of where I live, 90% of the people at my old school, including most of my friends, had Spanish as their first language. LuisMa Posted October 12, 2008 at 10:08 AM Posted October 12, 2008 at 10:08 AM I speak Spanish and English 100%. French I can read and understand almost everything, but when it comes to speaking it, I haven't had a lot of practice so I hesitate, but I think all I need is a boost of confidence. I had some basic Mandarin and Italian courses. I can read Portuguese, and now I'm learning Catalonian. Quote
CellyDee87 Posted October 12, 2008 at 10:22 AM Posted October 12, 2008 at 10:22 AM My first language is English, I understand Italian no problem, but I'm conscious while speaking Italian as I speak Sicilian dialect, which has some very very different words than your standard Italian it's kind of like slang Quote

LuisMa Posted October 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM Posted October 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM (edited) I wish I had learned a lot. I remember we had like 4 professors in one month because they would quit, so everyone got frustrated and started dropping the course. In the end, over a four-month period, it was a miracle we got to learn the numbers from 1 to 10. Edited October 12, 2008 at 12:35 PM by LuisMa Quote

celinedream Posted October 13, 2008 at 08:26 PM Posted October 13, 2008 at 08:26 PM Anway, I was wondering for those who know more than one language, how long did it take you to become fluent in a second language and how did you learn it? Hey Laura well for me music was a huge help learning both English and French. Learning songs word by word helped me with the correct pronuntiation of words, vocabulary and listening comprehension...For speaking and writing go into the French section of the forum and just try to understand what other people are saying and even try to throw in a few lines. The most important thing is that you lose the fear of trying. The only way to learn is to make mistakes Luis que significa 'ma ma hu hu' ?? destin139 Posted October 13, 2008 at 09:13 PM Posted October 13, 2008 at 09:13 PM Wow! some of you guys speak so many languages! English is my native tongue but I did French and German at school. However I am not very good at either but my french is better than my german because I listen to so much Celine!! After uni I'm going to go and live in France or Canada for a year to learn French fluently - its my favourite language and I'm desperate to know it well! wunderbarCéline Posted October 13, 2008 at 10:07 PM Posted October 13, 2008 at 10:07 PM Well, my native language is German and the only other language I can speak fluently is English. But I also learned Latin (5 years), French (3 years) and Spanish (2 years) at school. However, I don't remember very much because it's been soooo long ago! I'm not saying that I'm old though. I've been taking Italian lessons for a year now and I'm also working on my French. I think it's a very difficult language but I really want to understand what Céline says and sings in her mother tongue! Quote http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/3203/clinedionrl4.jpg
