I'm in no way the grammar police or anything, but kinda ironical to see non-native English speakers constantly correct the grammar of native English speakers. It really weird awkward that us non-native speakers have to prove our proficiency in the language and come out with flying colours while the native speakers, who can't form basic sentences, get the waiver off of English Testing Exams.

And I ended up not doing much homework today either... I was singing Céline songs instead. It was great! Christina, I hope that we'll be able to talk this after-noon! I really miss you!

Another fascinating FYI for you guys, American typically aren't taught grammar. It's becoming very rare these days. I have students that cannot diagram a sentence to save their lives.

Alex, I was watching a documentary about it. They were showing how the US doesn't bother too much with the English grammar unlike countries from the Commonwealth or the UK?

What do you have to say about China making it's students learn English in a proper manner? It seems even they are making more of an effort to get it correct grammatically.

I guess the non-natives suffer from the accent, but there was a report on CNN that it's not just the non-native speakers who have to learn to speak fluently, but the native speakers ought to understand the different accents as well and not just depend on subtitles whenever, for example, a French or an Italian speaks English.

On a side note, I'm so fascinated and in  whenever I hear a French person speaking English. It's so darn sexy! :blushing1:

Well, it's hard for people outside of the United States to imagine that some Americans do not encounter foreigners at all, mostly due to the vastness of the country. I think, in general, Americans don't have an issue communicating with someone who is speaking with an accent of a romance or other European language, but there certainly is a problem for many in understanding Chinese people. Here at my university we have many, many Chinese students and they (naturally) must take courses in English. I've had a few in my French courses that struggle horrible with it.

The first day of this semester one came up to me and in very broken English told me that she was going to have trouble in my class because she doesn't speak English. I told her that was no problem as English isn't spoken in my classroom! That wasn't quite the answer she wanted! lol

^^^ lol

I've noticed that too Dhruv... Some people seems to just don't care for grammar... Even thou I'm not an expert (and I've never studied English) I am sometimes shocked by some mistakes I see... But it's not just with English native speakers, it's the same with Spanish native speakers in our countries

Love that song, Fernando. I know it is a translate from the original that was not called that but I still love it.

I don't have a difficulty with every accent, but, sorry to say this, when I call Earthlink for instance, they've out-sourced everything to countries like India. Now so many times I wish our resident Indian took over and answered calls because I bet he's very understandable, but I have a harder time with also Middle Eastern speakers.

I would also like to ponder...and mabye some of you not from the US or from more rural areas of it can answer this...it seems to me that some people have never envountered a blind/disabled person in their lives. I get people who speak absolutely no English whatsoever who come up to me,g rab my cane or a body part...and start taking me where they think I want to go. I get that this is them compensating for their lack of verbal communication...but is that what they do in other parts of the world? do they not have spacial boundaries/preferences like we/I do or are they looser in other parts of the world? I mean, it's sooooooo confusing. But whoever started this topic of conversation....this is fun and very thought-provoking!

Chose my Tom Ford sunglasses I want for my b.day while I was there, after trying on the entire new line several times,lol.. :P
