CELINE PERFORMANCES AT THE COLOSSEUM AT CAESARS PALACE CANCELLED THROUGH SUNDAY, MARCH 18

Performances June 9 through August 19 Will Proceed As Scheduled

We regret to inform you that Celine performances through Sunday, March 18 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled.

Following the difficulties that she experienced with her vocal chords last week, which resulted in cancelled weekend performances, Celine decided to seek further expert medical advice from one of the leading international authorities on laryngeal physiology, Professor Gerald Berke M.D., UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

Celine flew to Los Angeles on Monday afternoon and had a thorough examination at Professor Berke's clinic. He has diagnosed Celine with weakness in her right vocal chord, secondary to a viral illness. Professor Berke has prescribed 6-8 weeks of voice-rest in order for Celine to completely recover from this condition.

"I tried to sing at my sound-check last week, and I had no control of my voice whatsoever," said Celine. “We thought that after a few days rest I would improve but it wasn't getting any better....I guess it was worse than I thought. I'm fortunate that I was able to see Professor Berke. He identified what was causing the problems I was having, and he assured me that with the amount of rest he prescribed, I would be back to 100%. Obviously this is the worst thing for a singer....not being able to do your shows. I feel worse knowing that I'm disappointing my fans. I'm so sorry.....I hope they forgive me."

Celine’s next run of performances beginning June 9 through August 19 will proceed as scheduled.

Those who purchased tickets with a credit card for the cancelled performances will be automatically refunded. Those who purchased tickets with cash may present tickets at the original point of sale for a refund. Ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster may call 1-877-4-CELINE (1-877-423-5463).

LAS VEGAS — Singer Celine Dion says she is recovering from a virus that caused an inflammation of her vocal cords and is planning to return to the stage in Las Vegas soon.

 

Dion said in a statement Monday that she received good news last week during a follow-up examination with her doctor in Los Angeles.

 

She says she should be fully recovered by mid-April. That's when she hopes to start recording songs for her new English and French albums.

I was supposed to be at the show last night.........five of us..........thousands of fans outside the doors at 6:45pm when they cancelled. Totally unprofessional. I cried. People were sooooooooooooooooooo mad.

 

She must of known yesterday she has this ilness at least give us the decency of notice......some fly in from edmont that afternoon........this is totally ridiculous. I'm heart sick. I flew all the way from Nova Scotia.

Thats very unusual to cancel when fans were queuing to get in... I don't think thats ever happened so close to a show.

Unless she was backstage and became unwell or something like that is the only reason I can think that it was cancelled so late/last minute.

Wow, that is strange. Like Darren said, she probably was planning to do the show and right before she went on things took a turn for the worse. It is not like Celine to cancel at the last minute. She usually feels very bad about cancelling.

I think if she was still sick (mean when she become ill after Jamaica show) it´s for sure they cancelled show early and not at last minute, in official press from celinedion.com they informed that Céline had become unexpectedly ill, so I think it´s something new or she thought she is already Ok but she was not. Anyway it´s very horrible for all those fans who traveled to see her and they couldn´t, when I´m thinking about planning Vegas trip this is one of things I´worry about, it´s for sure nightmare of every fan.

I was reliably told that she has been under doctors’ orders and followed all treatments to rest her vocal chords. She was ready to restart her Colosseum at Caesars Palace engagement with Wednesday night’s sold-out concert, but just two hours before curtain up, she became ill again.

 

Celine was promptly ordered by her doctors not to perform and to rest to ensure a full recovery so that she can resume performances Saturday. It was the first show she has canceled in four years. Incidentally, Elton John also had to cancel his last performance here over the weekend, for him due to food poisoning.

 

Country superstar Shania Twain, who had flown in from her Bahamas home to start pre-production for her Colosseum headliner show starting Dec. 1, was scheduled to watch both stars. Instead, AEG/Concerts West producers used the suddenly empty theater last night for Shania to “walk, dance and sing onstage.”

 

“That was really cool. We were there until 11 p.m. last night,” I was told. “She wanted to get the feel of the building. She wanted to know where her band and the crew would be hanging out when she comes to town. She saw the dressing rooms and checked the sound system. She’s really excited, and everybody already knows she’s on the right track as the new family is being built around her.”

 

Shania on Wednesday also checked out chef Wolfgang Puck’s nearby Spago for lunch and enjoyed heirloom tomato Soup, BLT salad (without the bacon) and cookies for dessert. Vegas DeLuxe also has learned exclusively that Shania has tapped Raj Kapoor as director of her Caesars shows as the process begins. The cutting-edge director has worked on the Grammy Awards, “American Idol” and Carrie Underwood’s latest tour.

 

“It’s early on with the concept sketches, but they already have 20 tableaux to pick -- 12 from that will wind up becoming the show itself. She wants to showcase all her looks, from country to high fashion to pop and rock,” I was told.

 

Shania, who confirmed her residency to me in an exclusive interview last June, is said to be in great shape and played tennis for two hours with her husband, Frederic Thiebaud, right after their six-hour flight here from the Bahamas. The couple left Las Vegas this morning after seeing the early performance of “O” in the Bellagio on Wednesday night instead of Celine.

 

AEG head honcho John Meglen confirmed: “She’s loving life and is really excited and involved in getting the show ready. She’s having a good time and a lot of fun with it. We think she’ll make two more trips here -- and of course time it to see Elton and Celine then! Musical rehearsals will start this summer in the Bahamas, and then in the fall we’ll move into a Las Vegas rehearsal facility. She’ll move into the building in November, and with our load-ins, some preview shows and Lions Den shakedowns, we’ll be all ready for Dec. 1.

 

“We have always felt her music was missing from the Las Vegas entertainment scene. You do have Garth Brooks, and now Shania Twain will serve that segment of the market always visiting Las Vegas.”

I feel terrible for your situation. Last night was a difficult night for all involved. Canceling a show is never a pleasing decision for anyone. I know it will not take away the disappointment of missing out on Celine's show, but please know that she really really wanted to do the show. The show was canceled last minute as a result of that, not as a result of unprofessionalism. Celine was at the Colosseum. She tried to do the sound check and I could tell that her voice sounded really strained. She was then examined by her doctor and the call was made that she would not be able to perform. She gave her best effort to put on the show for her fans, but she was physically unable. The decision was made to cancel the one night's show to help her recover and to avoid causing a further more time consuming relapse.

 

I know that you are upset and hurt, but I hope this info helps even just a little. After talking with so many fans last night, I only wish and hope that everyone finds peace with the situation, and the Celine has a full recovery in order to avoid canceling more shows.
