Standard opening BO reporting practice. It’s usually reported on Sun based on Thurs previews - Sat night actuals, with an extrapolated Sun projection.

If the budget was indeed $9m, from a financial perspective Sony will be fine. There’s US Mother’s Day weekend coming up and an entire non-domestic BO yet to open (which is clearly the main target audience here, plus int’l is a much higher proportion of total BO than it ever was in the past so I suspect the film will do fine overall). But given domestic opening weekend expectations were ~$5m, it clearly underperformed versus that number. Not surprising given lack of promo, but there’s more to come this week (probably because they couldn’t reschedule everything when they moved the release date at the last minute.)

Well, given lack of wide promo so far, the people going to see it on opening weekend are Priyanka, Sam and Céline stans who have been waiting for it for years. So it’s a biased audience sample, if you will.

In New York at least, you really wouldn’t know it’s happening unless you closely followed one of those 3. I saw a post from one exhibitor who didn’t even know it was coming until it showed up on their servers…

I’ve been sick with the norovirus all week and have not seen the movie yet. I presume many people will be taking their moms to see it the following weekend. Also it was only released stateside for 2 days like, not really sure they can call it a flop yet…especially when romcoms never get big theatrical releases anymore.

Yes, I'm sure it's a nice Rom-Com movie, which is perfect for Nefflix, Apple TV or Hallmark TV, but not for a big theater.

Well it’s not good when a movie in its wheelhouse “ Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret” does more in sales in its SECOND week than “Love Again” does in its first. I still wouldn’t call it a “flop” yet.  Mother’s Day weekend will be the tell.

Titanic was beeing called a flop also in it's first weekend, and guess what happened?
Here in Brazil it will be released on 11th only, and I'm gonna watch it for sure...
But as someone pointed, you can't compete with Guardians of the Galaxy, even more if the movie is beeing well received...
Just give time, and if the audience is liking Live Again, it will make a good run...

Well, seeing as it landed at about 60% of the lower end of domestic opening weekend expectations, other reports are using terminology like “misfired, “crashed” or “DOA”…

I would look at it over a 2-weekend window, given promo still scheduled for this week ahead of the original release date - but the industry is and always has been focused on opening weekend metrics.

We're extremely lucky to have the movie, and five new songs in these hard times for Celine...
Don't expect it to be a huge hit, for there are releases yet to be made this month that will difficult that, Fast & Furios, The Little Mermaid...
Let's enjoy this gift from Celine and celebrate her... if the promo isn't that great, let's promote it ourselves...

I've just left the theater and that scene is probably my favorite lol.

The movie was as predictable and pure fluff as expected. Not bad but nothing special. Sam and Priyanka are good.

Celine has aboit 6 scenes total, some are good and some are bad (tbf I think that's mostly on the writing for her, some of the material she was given was kind of cringe). I feel that she's got a lot of potential as a dramatic actress more so than comedic (though she does have some good funny moments).

Oh, and they cut out the testicle/screaming part we see in the trailer.

I wish the post credit scene had been longer.

I think they could have amped up the comedy in a few spots. Leaving in the testicle/screaming part would have been good. And the score could have been more cheery at times — like it was towards the end of the film.
