I just watched the movie!  Agree with one of the critics who said Celine parts are the best parts of the movie, the rest was kinda meh to me, and a bit boring.  

On a separate note, it was so so great to hear those songs in the movie theatre, they sounded so great, and much better too.  Can't wait for the album to arrive in the mail.

Oh, me and my friends (4 of us) went to a 10:10pm seating.  And there were 3 other people in the theatre.  Age wise, seems to be 30s to young 40s. I guess all the grannies already in bed at this time.  And actually one more young guy happily walked into the theater, we were about to cheer for him, to celebrate having 8 audience in the theatre.  But before we could cheer, the young man realized he got into a wrong theatre and ran back out. Lol

I was watching a video review of Love Again, where this man calls the movie and the script "wooden", and blames the direction for the fact that actors are merely saying lines.

That's what happens when you let actors work from Canada and America and virtually joins them together. There's no bond

Maybe the time isn't right, if the film was released back in 2000s it would have been a better match for audience. Now, rom-coms are dated.

My friend went to our local movie theater yesterday to watch and he said that the theater was 90% full of people for the 7:00 showing last night!

Better than 3 ppl at least!

I really feel this movie will be a grower and do well next week and when it goes to streaming services.
I haven’t seen it yet still, because life has been crazy for me lately but I do plan on going Sunday or a Monday can’t wait!

I just saw the movie. I loved it . It was a predictable rom com. Still,  it was good to me . Loved Celine’s parts and can’t wait to hear “Love  of my life” in full .

Are there any official posters of Celine in this movie? I've only seen the one that they use for everything. It's fine, but it's not exactly great, I was hoping for at least a few different versions. They use the same photo of Celine for everything.

Aw I loved it!! Didn’t expect to legit like it lol. I don’t tend to be into rom coms but I really like the sort of subtle, simple tone this one had. For such an out there set up, it actually managed to be intimate and relatable.

The only real flaw for me actually was the evident remote-acting… I absolutely loved Celine’s deliveries but the emotional response was always just a little bit off with her and her screen partners. You could definitely tell they didn’t have the chance to bounce of each other or rework lines. (The underpants line was so strange.) But well for all their constraints it turned out great.

And i FREAKING LOVE THE NEW MUSIC. Especially the quiet last song that was playing in the background. I know it’s going to get me good when I have it on full blast in a week.

As for my audience… a couple in their 60s, lady in her 70s prob, and another lady in her 40s, and me. More than I was expecting really lol! And I was the only one in a proud PQTME t shirt

Can someone edit the Wikipedia page to include the 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes? And the IMDB figure? There is a section in the movie page called "Reception". I think it should be mentioned how these audiences like the film unlike the critics! It needs to be stressed.

Having just seen the movie tonight, I am happy to report that Céline was marvelous in the movie. The average person would not guess that she filmed her scenes separately from the rest of the cast. At the end of the day, this movie was really about getting through grief and taking steps to acclimate to life without the person you love - and Céline really underlined that theme with her scenes.

I went to a 4:30pm showing with my mom, and there were 8 other people in the cinema. Two of them were about my age (thirties) and the rest were middle-aged and above. My mom said she really liked the movie and was glad she saw it (although I could tell everybody was a little bored at times with the slow pacing). I caught her humming along to the classic Céline tunes like ANDHC, which I thought was used to quite a beautiful effect in the story - truly one of the only "magical" moments of the movie IMO. Was it the best movie of 2020 2021 2023? Certainly not. But it was cute.


Here's my hot take:

First things first. I agree with the reviewer in the video above: this was not a true rom-com, as there wasn't nearly enough humour to justify that label, and the typically far-fetched rom-com tropes were rather subdued. I can't help but wonder if Covid paranoia was to blame for the "wooden" acting... or if the writers struggled to find the right balance of tragedy and humour?

Obviously, Mira was busy grappling with her loss (and she conveyed that very well) but Rob's character was a huge missed opportunity. They could have used his bitterness for laughs, or at the very least amped up his awkwardness.  For example, during the voyeurist scene where he follows her on her date with Nick Jonas, I expected there to be more humorous moments, but sadly everything we saw in the trailer is what we get. That scene - if written, directed, and acted better- could have been hilarious and added more depth to the film, but it just sort of drags on for far too long. Sam just sort of sits around being pretty and looking preoccupied. My guess is that he just doesn't have the chops to do comedy.

Another notable weakness of the film is the strange pacing of the storyline. As someone else pointed out, there were scenes/lines in the trailer that did not make it into the movie, so perhaps they had to whittle them down to balance the tone of the film. Again, it's hard to say if that's because of subpar writing or poor direction, but I'm putting my money on the latter because even the supporting actors are just sort of "there". It's not hard to see why so many critics hated this movie. I certainly wish it was better - not just for Céline's sake, rather because I love the premise of the story and think it had more potential than what we see in the end product.

SPOILER:
The movie ends with CWT footage of Céline singing IACBTMN at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn. I don't recall seeing this exact footage before, but it looked really cinematic. Does anyone know if this was promo footage they shot during rehearsals - or if she filmed it specifically for the film?

Céline's songs sounded great. They definitely mixed them especially for the film. The new songs might very well go unnoticed as Céline songs, because they were so different from the rest of her music and they were very much a part of the background. Can't wait to hear the full versions!

I liked the overall tone of the movie, though perhaps it could have used some more "oomph". You're right, it was subtle in a lot of ways, and I thought a lot of it was relatable - like you could imagine this happening the way it did in real life.
