Wow, this is really unfortunate how sick Celine's become!  Apologies to anyone who was attending her shows during this time!
Despite how we all feel, whether it be fine or upset, I think we all can agree that we wish her the speediest recovery ever.

It is easier to say this since it did not happen to me, but negativity is not helping her. It is my belief rthat she is very empathetic and sensitive and picks up on things. So I think this is not helping her. I am sending good vibes/energy to her and invite all others to do the same. Again, my deepest apologies to those whose shows were canceled, I would be so so too!

Ridiculous! The more shows you give, the more chance there is of having to cancel them due to illness!

I see how Vegas is most busy in the Summer, but frankly IMO it is no good on her voice! She usually
gets sick around this time... either she has to stay the whole summer in Vegas, so she can't be effected
by weather changes from other areas or she should just not perform in Vegas in August!

I hope she is better soon! She never had to cancel so many shows after one another

Just cancelled my reservations for Caesars and the flight The box office sent a message to inform me of cancellations, I called them and asked if they were very busy because of the cancellations and she kind of laughed and said "extremely busy when she gets sick!"
I told them I'll be back! I was going to try to book for the week of the 20th but I just don't want to chance it.......

The thing I don't get is if she has a contract for 70 shows a yr should she be obligated  to  do so. what happen  to the other shows that she doesn't do. Does she not get paid o for then.

A contract is one thing a stains health is another. I'm due to see her on the 30th I really hope she doesn't cancel but if she does oh well! I've waited years to see her. This trip is part of a long holiday and the show is only a small part. For those fans who plan trips around a headline act and are pissed that's she's sick I do feel sorry for them but that's just how the cookie crumbles I'm afraid.

I really hope she is back my that week , it will be so disappointing but I guess it's the risk I took for building my trip around the show.
Wish we could be sure she would be back by then. You could go during that week and we could have gone for pre show drinks lol

I'm really not believing this diva behaviour thing. Of all the divas she is the less diva of them all in the demanding / attitude sense.
We all know she hates cancelling and disappointing the fans , and she knows people travel for it.
We just have to say some prayers and send her good energy and love.

I really don't understand the anger directed toward her.  She's a human being....not a machine.  I know sometimes she sounds so amazing and looks so amazing that she doesn't seem real but....she is.  Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Well I highly doubt Celine needs the money but I guess she would get sick pay like the rest of us?? However I doubt it would be for the amount of shows that have been cancelled so far.

Another question: What happens to all her musicians/crew etc? Will they get paid? Not to mention the Colloseum staff whose shifts would be cancelled. I am sure they have mouths to feed. Some of them might be doing it pretty tough right now.

Caesars themselves are set to lose a TONNE of money. Not only have they had to refund everyone....but what about the $$$$ that would be walking through the door every night? 4000+ people who would gamble their casino and spend money on food/drinks? Hotel cancellations...? I bet they're fuming!

This is not a big loss for Caesars as most of the people in attendance of the show will still be staying and dining and spending even more at a Caesars Property now that the show is not on. It really only causes disappointment for the fans and unfortunate publicity. Btw, I work for Caesars. Summer is a rough time in Vegas. Most locals even get sick. Caesars ain't mad at her.  Talk of that is just ridiculous.  She was there from 2003-2007 and canceled a bunch of times.  They begged for her to go back.  Stop with the stupid statements.  #SCF

I'm actually referencing another post. And all I mean by it seems she's had to cancel quite a bit is comparing the times she's cancelled with this run versus the prior run and before she ever went to Vegas. Of she doesn't cancel all the time. It just seems that the last few years she's had more issues than she has in the past.

I too am planning on going back to Vegas just not sure when yet. I love her and she's worth the "risk" so to speak. But I definitely understand the feeling about holding in the excitement until you see that curtain open.

Yes. It is extremely hot and dry. It is not healthy to go in and out of air conditioned buildings and back and forth into temperatures well in the 100F. It messes up your body. Summer is also monsoon season bringing in rain which makes it humid, then dry and back and forth. The fact that Celine just got back from Quebec certainly did not help because the climate there is mild right now. It is piercing to go from there back to this. Add all of that to Celine's stress as of lately. She just needs to relax and rest.

you have to understand people's frustrations.  Celine advertises her shows months in advance and people have to fly, book vacation, spend money.  And it's getting to the point now it's not if she will cancel but when.  Happens once a year a some point .  So why does she do so many shows?  Furthermore, I do believe she slightly nuts about her voice.  Yes, it's beautiful.  Yes, It's amazing.  Do I think she cancels at this point when she feels a little "uncomfortable?"  Yes.  When she canceled on me in 2012 there was another couple there that tried to see her twice and BOTH times she did this.  Not likely, but you know what the majority in the line said that night:  "Never again".  They were pissed.  

I went back.  Glad I did. Because I'm a huge fan. But all these cancellations.  I'll tell you now.  Will never go back to vegas to see her.

Just to second Kye's post, the Caesars Palace Colosseum staff and Celine's musicians will not go without pay.  First, prior to the start of her show, each member of her band and orchestra registered in a local union in Las Vegas, and as Kye mentioned, I am sure their contract takes show cancellations into account. Second, as for the Colosseum staff, I believe they have a special contract for Celine Dion shows or Celine Dion employs them herself. I say this based on an interview by Bette Middler. Bette Midler never cancelled a show (she performed fewer shows and had a shorter contract, but still that's amazing she never had to cancel). The Colosseum staff gave her an award, like a trophy. She said in her interview this is because if she cancelled a show, the staff wasn't paid.  So, by her not cancelling ever, they were always paid--hence, the trophy.  In contrast, I have heard that when Celine cancels a show the Colosseum staff are paid anyway. This is why I guessed she had a special arrangement with the staff, but it may have been that Bette Middler contract was unique and did not allow for cancellations. Either way, for a Celine Dion show, the staff are paid (this is from both things I heard and somewhere there is an article that discussed her show, I looked this morning but can't find it). Also, as stated by Kye, she is insured and her voice is insured.

As an aside, there is also an article about how much everyone appreciate Celine Dion in Vegas and at Caesar's Palace.  They compared her to other show headliners, and highlighted Cher as an example. They said in contrast to other headliners, Celine Dion truly appreciates her time at the Colosseum, and everyone loves when she is there.

Also, I agree, I am sure Caesar's Palace will not hurt from this. People are there, they will spend money. Other shows may benefit in that people will look for other things to do, or people may gamble a bit more. In the end, Celine Dion's attract for Caesar's isn't just the direct money she brings to them, if anything, it's much more the indirect revenue she causes (hotels, restaurants, shopping, etc.) all taking place because people travel to Vegas to see her.  Although I am sure they are sorry she is sick, I highly doubt they are worried about the money caused by cancelled shows.

As to questions about getting sick during the summer, the weather this year has been just unpleasant. Between rain, the heat, and just general desert issues, my allergies have been horrible and I have had to go to the doctor once already. Allergies get so bad here sometimes it does turn into infection. Despite antibiotics, I am still dealing with what feels like a swollen throat. So, I can't imagine how she feels, and how she deals with that considering her job requires she sing.


I do understand the frustration of fans who are experience the cancelled shows. I am sorry for each and every one of them.  But, as people mentioned above, she is a human. Singing is not her life, and being a singer is not her identity. It's her job. She got sick, she called in sick.  Her calling in sick impacts vacations. I am sorry about that, but it isn't a horrible thing to call in sick when you are sick.  She's sick. She called in sick. That's the smart thing to do, as opposed to making it worse. Being angry about it doesn't solve anything.  If a person expresses true anger (like those fans who flipped off her picture), it says more about them then it does about her.

I hope she feels better, and has a strong and quick recovery!

Yes. Most people can't even belt out ABM being 100% healthy, let alone with a sore throat. Celine doesn't get sick that much if people really think about it. Since she started this new show, she's only had about 4 situations where she's been sick and she needed to cancel shows.

If the everyday working person only had 4 sick days in 3 years, they would be praised. Considering all the times Celine sings and uses her vocal cords day in and day out and the level of difficulty that she sings, She has not cancelled alot of shows. People are way to hard on her.

I really hope she get's well soon. It just really sucks that people put so much pressure on her when she's sick. I can't believe those people who gave the finger to a Celine poster in the colliseum. Beyond rude. Everyone gets sick it's just natural. I think people forget that she is a real person. Because Celine is a celebrity she's put on this level where people think she's not a real person, that real human things can't happen to her, but they do and they will keep happening.

This won't be her last time she get's sick, she will have to cancel shows in the future. It's just a fact. Celine is not a machine, so people just have to deal with that and come back down to reality. People get sick and right now Celine is sick. People need to grow up and show her some respect.

I just want to make it clear that I am not reffering to anyone on this forum, I'm just talking about people in general that don't understand when a singer needs to cancel a show and don't have compassion.

I am quite surprised by some responses I am reading in this thread...

I am flying to Las Vegas next Tuesday and was supposed to see the show on Tuedsay and Wednesday night. I am travelling from Canada so it isn't a huge inconvenience nor does it leave me out-of-pocket too much.

I agree that the refund policy from axs is a little ridiculous but I also recognize the sheer volume of refunds that have to processed to cover all of those dates.

I will say this - the fact that Celine cancelled these performances will not deter me from coming back to see her or being less of an fan. The fact that some people would think that she would actually cancel if she had a mere tickle in her throat is crazy. We all get sick - the difference here is that Celine's "method" of employment is her voice. Better for her to cancel and rest so that she is back to 100% rather than attempt to perform and risk doing further damage.

While I know people are entitled to their opinion, I feel like those fans who criticize Celine for her "diva" behaviour are not true fans.

I will still go to Las Vegas next week, still take a photo in front of the entrance to the Colosseum, and still spend money at the boutique. When I get back, I will start planning next year's trip back to LV.
