She's lipped for the past 2 decades, why would this be any different?

but I don't like the fact that some people here don't want to hear any explanation and want to blindly believe that Celine decided Miraculously to sing live that night! I mean... come on! Are you stupid?

I could have cried when I heard the new version of TPOL! I absolutely love it ! This is probably my fave Celine song so to hear a different sound was so refreshing. I would have been appalled to hear the same prerecorded version that has been used for the last 10 years. I can't tell you how often I listen to the live opening verse on each lipped version just to hear the differences. I love it! And I'm so glad we have an entirely new version.
But can somebody clarify: did she lip to the new version during the show or was it dubbed in during editing? I honestly think it looks authentic as she is less dramatic with the lip quivering typical of her lipped performances.... I also suspect that more of the song is live than previously. Does she still lip beyond the first 'Cause I'm your lady...' or am I right in thinking there are other live sequences?
Either way, I love it! As I love the new versions of TLYM etc. Even if it is not as technically sound as earlier versions it reflects Celine's voice as it is today.
I love ABM... especially when her voice breaks at the end. I've always liked hearing her voice crack - it's more raw and emotional. Please reassure me that she only lips the big note. The rest seems live as does the amazing finale. It is a bit nasal but when I listen to earlier live performances there is not much difference.
As for Alone - not my fave song anyway but I think it is a good performance and I am glad to see that much of it is entirely live. if I'm honest I expected worse and I'm pleased to say I really like this version.
I also LOVE that they include Fade Away and that it is 100% live!!
My only objections are as follows: the concert seems very flat and the DVD does not capture the electricity I felt at the 7 shows I attended in 2008.
Why is this?? Is it poor editing or were the Boston shows really this mechanical?
The My Love sequence seems very rushed and insincere and I suspect this is down to poor editing which is a shame as this was one of the staple performances.
My biggest disappointment was the absence of the live intro to I Drove All Night. Was this simply cut or did she not sing it on the night? Either way her opening "Is that alright Boston?" is rendered absolutley meaningless!
I think Celine looks great and sounds much better than anticipated. You only have to compare the Vegas version of I'm Alive to this nes version to swee that the desert was no good for her voice. However, poor editing and transitions between songs take awaymuch of the essence and energy of the concerts. I was hoping to be blown away by the DVD so I could show it off to friends but I'm not as overwhelmed as I had hoped!
Nevertheless, I am happy for the opportunity to relive some of the best moments of the tour and I can rest assured that any flaws are due mainly to editing.
The Power Of Love (several versions) - Céline Dion
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack
Si dieu existe - Céline Dion & Claude DuBois
Frankenstein - Antony & the Johnsons
In Some Small Way - Céline Dion
Bird Gerhl - Antony & the Johnsons
Le blues du businessman - Céline Dion
Ne rien savoir de Lol était la connaître déjà.

when I extracted the acapellas from the DVD I noticed for exemple that in the acapellas you can hear the audiance but when she sings the note, there is no noise (studio) at the end of the note you can here the audiance again! Same for Taking chances and Alone, we can clearly hear the audiance noise but in the rerecorded parts, there is no noise (studio recordig)
It's 100% true, I know what I'm saying!

First, now I get the intro thing people were complaning about. If they didn't make the applause thing so long, maybe it wouldn't have been so weird, but because of that, it doesn't make sense. ''Is that alright Boston?'' Is what alright? People already forgot the intro was ''I Drove All Night''...
I was looking forward to the new songs and I'm sorry to say that except for ''Taking Chances'' and ''My Love'', the rest were a complete mess. She starts ''Shadow of Love'' so beautifully and than she just messes it up.
I kind of feel like there was not much to the English concert. If you think about it, many of the older songs were originally lippped and what they have done here only they would know, but if you take those songs away, there were not that many songs performed live on the actual night they filmed it.
The concert seemed rushed and at the beginning Celine doesn't talk much to the audience, which gives you the feeling that she is not really connected to the audience. But I guess this could be due to editing.
I can't believe I'm gonna say this because I'm usuallly the one defending Celine here, but here goes: Celine's nasality was so bad on some songs that her voice annoyed me at times. I don't know if it is because I listened to the concert for the first time on surround sound and it became clearer (because last week when I listened to the CD on the internet it wasn't so bad), if I'm just tired (I had a long day) or because everybody else is always going on about it that I'm now so focussed on it that I imagining things. Celine really needs to start looking into that and try and sort it out... I'm gonna watch the DVD again tomorrow after a long night's rest. Maybe I'll change my mind, because last week it didn't sound so bad on the YouTube clips and stuff.
I'm looking forward to seeing the French concert. Her French shows are always better than the English shows.

It is one thing listening to audio clips on the internet and seeing it on your TV with surround sound though. It doesn't look or sound the same...

I'm looking forward to seeing the French concert. Her French shows are always better than the English shows.
I was also really disappointed with how they completely cut out her speeches throughout the show. There were so many other things she said throughout the shows on those nights. Why don't they think we want to see these things?!
And yes, the voice did start to annoy me a bit, too. I'm only commenting on this because, like you said, I also am not usually one to complain about her voice sounding weird, but it was just really odd. I don't know. I'm really happy to have the DVDs but I'm not impressed
I'd like to see the French concert, I'll just have to buy it one of these days and wait for it to ship. Does she sing as many songs with playback during her French concerts?

Aha! Even you complain, at least for once!
I wanted to coment of what you say about Céline's nasality today when she sings, because I agree. She uses that nasality "mode" a lot these days, but I think its for protecting her voice. I think her voice suffers less if she sings that way, in a "fake" voice, than using all her vocal abilities to sing like she sings in the album studio versions of the songs for instance
I neither like it, but after all, it wasn't that bad in the DVD, at least if you listen the concert in 5.1 (the whole surround effects help you not to concentrate only in Céline's voice

I'm gonna watch the DVD tomorrow again. I'm just tired and annoyed (I played three netball matches today), so I think that is why it bothered me so much tonight. I also noticed something now while I was looking at some parts again on my computer. The images on the menu is black and white and the block around the writing is purple, while on my TV it was blue-greyish and red-purple, so I guess my TV is not 100% tuned in or something. I thought that there was something up with the colours and stuff earlier, but I didn't realize it was my TV.
What became clear to me though is that the lipped songs were definitely rerecorded afterwards as her voice sounds totally different. In fact, I think she has an interesting quality in her voice in some parts of ''The Power of Love'' and ''My Heart Will Go On''. All the old songs sounded amazing. ''The Prayer'' was great. Because You Loved me sounded better than the Vegas version and not nasally at all. But ''Shadow of Love'' was horrible, ''Fade Away'' horrible and ''Alone'' was ok after the big note in the middle. ABM also had a few nasally notes that annoyed me...
I get what you are saying about her voice suffereng less when she sings that way, but what is bothering me about it is that more and more people are starting to notice it and commenting on it. I think that is exactly why I'm also focussing more and more on it. At first it didn't bother me that much.
I ordered the Frence version, so I'll wait for that one. But her French shows are always great. She always gives her all for the French shows...

Fans have been noticing that since the second year of her Vegas adventure, 2004!!
Befor 2003? Nothing of this happened. She toured and did many concerts, yes, but each night was different, she enjoyed it. I don't think she has enjoyed her Vegas adventure. The reasons why she comes back again there, only she and René know

I've watched almost all the french performance of the DVD. I skipped the english songs as you all know what happened with them (or almost all, they are the same). But for some reason, I wasn't as impressed with her french performances as I was 2 weeks ago with the english concert
SINERQU was mediocre to me, not impressive at all (it lacks the strength of the album version, as happens with some other songs), and TOO BAD that Je Sais Pas is not the version of the 15th august we can see in youtube
I'll have to watch it again and in its full programme of course, but for the moment, I stick to the english concert
Well in the acapella of ABM you can hear the audience and when she sings the note, then, nothing no audience 0% and at the end of the note, you can hear the audience again! It's the same for the last chorus of TC and alone!!! It's a proof they were rerecorded!

How can I believe anything if I can't hear what you are talking about? It's not like I'm being blind on purpose.
Don't take this the wrong way.....
If you haven't noticed the lack of audience noise in your first time watching the DVD, then that's bad...but if you STILL can't notice it after seeing it a second time (and having read posts on here with the various complaints about it), then I would have to say you're being "blind" on purpose.
IDAN for example.
The crowd is going wild while she is standing there. The music starts. It's all gone. There is actually a 1/2 second where they go back into live vocals from the concert (rather than the dubbed). This is the part where she screams YEAH! towards the end. In that split second you should be able to hear audience noise.
TPOL...there is always clapping during the first "Cause I'm your lady..." ....you can visibly see that people are clapping...yet no audio of it.
ABM...during the "big note" there is ALWAYS a ton of noise! They actually did dub in a slight amount for this, but nothing like what you would normally hear.

I always thought it was 100% live because her voice was not perfect but raw and because she was shaking!

Anyway I'll look forward to hearing the acapellas with an open mind (seriously thanks for them
The only people that know with 100% certainty are Celine and the tour band/crew. But it surely isn't beyond the realms of possibility that if they are filming the shows to be released that Celine may have decided to sing live on those nights?

How do you describe a feeling??
