Well, a second Las Vegas, and she's free, of course, to do whatever she wants, will be a mistake for a career, because I believe it's one experience for one time, which in the past has been a huge sucess, so enough.

Beeing to Las Vegas, once again, away from the showbiz for some years, won't help her to keep a certain level for her career.

The question is : What shall she do after winning so much ? (not money, of course  :xmas_tongue: )

:mdr: it could be, it could be!! Perhaps that's the reason why she barey promotes her new songs and only those who are singles, and keeps stuck to her old classics: she doesn't like any of the songs she records except those that are sung live! :mdr:

You guys don't undersand how it all works, do you? With her original songs, it's not even a question of whether or not she likes her original songs enough to perform them over and over again on stage. It's all about pandering to the perceived demand of the general concertgoing public (she's not Madonna who likes to do things her own way). For better or for worse, Celine uses covers as a middle-of-the-road device so she can sing what she wants without risking the alienation of, again, the general public.

I understand how it works and it frustrates the hell out of me! Madonna does what she wants... so some extend... cos she has some 'general known and loved' songs in her concerts, of which she's probably sick of singing... BUT she remixes them, rearanges them, so they sound new and fresh, unlike a 14 year old backup track :whistling:

also don't call it the TC tour, if your not promoting your album with it. it just as well have been FIY tour part Quatre -_-

I really want Celine to go back to Vegas, just not 5 nights a week. Travelling the world with family is not really ideal, and with the possibility of another child, Vegas will give Celine the wonderful stability that she has loved having before. A world tour was badly needed seeing as Celine hadn't seen her worldwide fans for 9 years, and now that RC is a bit older it seemed like the right time to do it - after Vegas. However, while Celine and Rene are used to touring, RC isn't. I'd imagine going to all these different countries and staying in different 5 star hotels is magical at first, but I'm sure he's found it tiring and boring as he dosen't have any friends [with him]. Having home (or tour) schooling dosen't help either. Celine said in the AND DVD that he had home schooling 3 days a week. Personlly I think he should be going to a proper school in LV, make new friends, and experience the 'normal life' that Celine so desperately wants him to have! Wherever Celine decides to live after the tour, I hope they sent RC to a proper school where he can be surrounded at last with people his own age, make friends and realise how lucky he is.

This is why I think Vegas is so important to the family. While some of you may say 'been there, done that', you need to realise that Vegas was more than an amazing how, it was the family home. I really do hope she returns after her second child, because like with RC, they will be able to grow up in the same home, used to their surroundings, sleep in the same bed, enjoy family life. Furthermore, with a less busy Vegas schedule Celine will be able to go on more family holidays, record good new albums and promote them properly. Hopefully this relaxed approach will mean she will be less robotic when she performs and be able to really enjoy her show and have more fun.

If she decides not to do Vegas then that's even better, as it allows the family to completely chill out and enjoy life without Celine not talking to save her voice all the time! Furthermore, it's gives us all something to look forward to as Celine might having something new to surprise us all with. We'll just have to wait and see!

For better or for worse, Celine uses covers as a middle-of-the-road device so she can sing what she wants without risking the alienation of, again, the general public.

And where's the incompatibility between one thing and the other? Where they collide? Because I don't see the problem of doing different things while she keeps singing those songs :)

Perhaps she and her team should think more often about her FANS (a word  I think they don't remember) and not that much about the "general audience"  .
Perhaps she and her team should consider that maybe we are desperately tired of seeing her sing all the same songs everywhere, everytime, and in the every same way :msn-wink:

Careful!, with that said, I don't mean she doesn't think about us (of course she does), but maybe in the MUSICAL aspect we are a little bit forgotten, barely heard.

They don't ask us what we want.

They don't want to know what songs we would like her to sing.

They don't ask us if we like her new songs style or if we prefer something else.

Do they want to know something about what we think? NO.

Céline is the best singer, and the best attentive popular singer with her fans in the world, no question about that. But does she really know what we think about her (latest) music, her concerts, her promotion, what her recording label does for her?. NO. Well that maybe is ask for too much, but at least they should show interest on what we think about her music and the songs she sings in her concerts. That's not a crazy petition (Madonna asks her fans what they want her to sing on her concerts, for example).

I mean, it doesn't hurt to do some changes and to add some new fresh songs to her concert setlist. Nobody will faint if she sings for the very first time songs from Unison or Celine Dion albums, for example. Perhaps the reaction is surprisingly positive!.

And of course, she doesn't need to resort to covers. The most incredible thing is that SHE already has the songs in her own discography, but she doesn't use them at all -_-  :)

The one and most important thing you'll have to remember: the fans are such a[i ]small[/i] group. It isn't enough and viable to target them only. It just isn't possible. It's the 'general audience' that brings in the sales, brings in the cash, gets her up the chart, gets the word out, spread the buzz, etc. etc. The fans are just not enough. Maybe it will be enough when she's much older, when everything can be done on a smaller scale, but not now.. You can't have both, you can't have her listen to the fans only and do what they want and still expect to be extremely succesful, be at the top of the charts, it just doesn't work that way..

   Sorry. But if she can't do that today, now that she says everytime that she has proven everything and has nothing else to prove anymore (and all that blah blah blah story), please tell me when she will be able to do it?

She's 40 now. Will we have to wait until she's 50 to see her dancing the uptempo songs she has never sung?. Will we have to see her voice change more to see her sing just once (at least) a time in her whole career some of the brilliant ballads she has never performed on a stage?. I'm so sorry, but I find that sad. So sad and disappointing. Disappointing first for Céline herself, that doesn't want to give a chance to her own songs, and second for us her fans, who buy her records and we never see the songs performed except 2 or 3 from each album. She keeps offering the same shows of 10 years ago, except very few innovations.

Again, we are tired to see her sing always the same songs, no matter if its a decission about the "likings of her general audience" :ermm:  :confused1:

(Of course, chill pill and peace ah?)  :flowers:  :flowers:

Some people still can't accept the fact Celine Dion is a COMMERCIAL singer since day 1.

she's been lipping TPOL/TLYM/MHWGO for ages now, so clearly whatever feelings she had for them are gone, and the only reason she still performs them, is, as réne puts it; cos the crowd (= non fans and old grannies) want these songs and the public has the last word. (YEAH RIGHT!!

Well Davey..but that's true. That's exactly why ML: UEC is doing so good...it has her/those hits on it, songs everyone knows. Can you imagine the reaction of the "general audience" when she's not not performing any of those songs? And in every review it says people go nuts with those songs, whereas they aren't with newer/lesser known songs. Unfortunately, those songs will always be performed..v

This girl is amazing live. She should improve in her concerts and start writing her own songs.

Anyway she needs to stop for a while

Last time I checked it's CELINE'S life, therefore it's up to HER what she "should" and "shouldn't" do.  Give the woman a break.  She's done way more for herself, her family, her friends, and her fans than a lot of other artists do.  Ease up.  Sheesh.

Exactly :)

That's exactly how I see it too!

Wow some really harsh words have been said about Celine in this topic...

I dont agree at all.

I think Celine definately is still relevant today. I still listen to Celine's songs which came out at the very beginning. Her music will always mean so much to me. I think a vegas show would be great.

It probably should be limited shows though as Celine i think needs some time for herself and family.

I will support Celine in whatever she does as long as Celine is happy and it is what she wants.

Maybe what Celine needs to do is not try do too many things at once.

Although I don't like the idea of Vegas myself...we should be lucky she is considering coming back to show business at all after her break. If SHE wants to come back and SHE wants to do vegas, than it's okay by me.

Mathias, you're reapting yourself, but so will I; why the same old same old songs?! do you really think people won't go to céline anymore if she doesn't sing TPOL or IACBTMN? that they will go mad for not hearing BYLM or MHWGO, eventhough they got an exciting, new, wonderful show of Céline? I'm not saying she should chuck them all, but a few, and renew them! make them sound fresh again like IA!

and like Gonza said; would the 'general public' get a heart attack by hearing a song pre LCMM? or a song she hasn't sung live before OR god forbid... a new great song from a NEW album like SS or TJTWIM?

I guess the saddest faith of a great new song was this:
Céline performed Tout L'or Des Hommes the first night in Antwerp. She enjoyed that song so much, you could see the excitment, but the public's responds was luke warm (I blame this btw on the use of acoustic guitares, instead of electric guitares during the song). and instead of trying it for a second night, or even better; trying it out again in France where the song was number 1, they just scrapped it and we ended up with the same old songs from D'eux and SISDA + Ziggy  Now that's how wonderful 'general public' works for you  :pinch:

Some people still can't accept the fact Celine Dion is a COMMERCIAL singer since day 1.
not day 1, when she signed on with CBS the preditor in René was born, when Céline recorded FIY it was unleashed -_-

We're not asking Céline for a kidney here! Sheesh yourself! :P I know Céline's the best singer out there for her fans, but do you think she still loves the same old setlist over and over again?

I don't think harsh things were said about Céline, but more about (her or her team's) decisions concerning set lists. I also think Céline is relevant today, but it seems like they're doing everything NOT to make her relevant; sing the same old songs on tours, release an greatest hits and promote the old songs. If she had gone into a new direction after her break, with more emphisis on her new material, rather then her old, her 'relevance' would have been much higher IMO!

back on topic; a new vegas run. I'm against it, because I think that it will be just like AND, and why would you want to repeat yourself? If they do want to continue, they have to really think hard about the content and really there shouldn't be so many shows! Céline deserves time to spend with her family and rené... I'll be the last person to say otherwise!  -_-

That's her own dream. Rene just helped her made it come true.

no it was céline's dream to sing all her life and be world famous... I don't think Céline even knew what a 'commercial' singer was at age 12 :whistling:

plus which big famous singer aint commercial? Madonna, Britney, Beyoncé, Björk, Nana Mouskouri! they all are! there's nothing wrong with being commercial... not making a change is the sad part -_-

Imagine how many people would be giving out if Celine didnt sing her famous songs like MHWGO or BYLM or PQME!!!! People would go psycho if they didnt here that song. I love hearing Celine sing her old and new stuff. She is a legend like Cher and Elton and therefore most fans wana hear her legend songs!!! And alot of people would not like hearing a remixed version of her legend songs, that would prob dissapoint most people as they would be wanting to hear the origional..

You don't have to look that far to see the situation w/ the bigger public. I mean, so many people on the forum moaned about the release of yet another GH album (w/c didn't buy, by the way) but surprise, surprise, it did well enough to become the bestselling English GH of 2008!

It's sad but Celine isn't the type to reinvent her old songs or introduce the more obscure ones to her setlist mainly for the sake of keeping her artistic energies fresh on stage. She won't fix what isn't broken in terms of ticket sales.

I know alot of people who went to her concerts in the UK in May and said they were bored when the new songs were performed and the soul medley...they love the old hits and that's a curse I don't think Celine knows how to break away from. I think they'd all like to, all of her team- it's like when she cut her hair and dyed it blonde- as she said, the public had lost their Celine so she had to change back. You could tell she was pissed about that- she couldn't even have the hair she wanted. So on tour, there are just so many big songs that she'd find it v hard to leave out because if she songs all the osngs the core fans know and love, the show wouldn't appeal to the hundreds of thousands of people needed to buy the tickets.

I do think she could have left off the Vegas Medley and sang Us or Miles To Go or The Reason or BATBeast or ANDHC or WTWOLYR...
BUT NO TO VEGAS- TAKE THE TIME OFF- JUST VANISH- DO WHAT YOU WANT, HAVE A BABY, DRIVE YOUR OWN MAYBACH, RECORD AN AMAZING ALBUM OVER 2 YEARS....
