So now she's only going to sell 195K-205K albums? I thought it was 250K? I thought the folks who estimated the 250K figure were rarely wrong. Or are these the same people now making these new estimates? Anyway, this might be because half the people looking for the album can't find it. The retailers put the CDs on the second to the bottom shelf and just two stacks of them. When I bought mine at Target, a woman stopped me and asked me where I found it. I had to show her. I had to search for it myself.

OMG! Why??
The album is great, the promotion has been huge... What happened??
I feel so so sad!

Now I am afraid Sony has even less motivation to promote Celine for her future releases...but for a singer like Celine...she basically do all of her promotion anyway.
Indeed, I don't remember Celine doing a promotion as hectic and as much as this time. After appearing on all these big TV programs and still only get those sales numbers is really...surprise surprise!
I am also afraid that Celine and her team after seeing these numbers, would start to question whether they made the wrong move in freshening her music style, which I fully support with the new sound.
But I think they are kinda in a dilemma right now...for the next single should it be something more AC like the old Celine to attract the ppl that loved her ballads, or she should choose a more funky record to attract some new fans. I personally like "Can't fight the feeling" a lot, but I think it suits the Country Format better. As for "This time", I think it could do well on AC, but for Top 40? If Christina sings this, it wouldn't be a problem for Top 40, but for Celine...I don't know. "Fade Away" is another one of my favourite, but even if "Taking Chances" didn't do well on Top 40, I really don't know about this one either. As for "Eyes on me", it's funky and new, but I don't see it being a "hit"...hope I am wrong.
Maybe they should shoot different singles to different format one after another, until all of the songs are released, similar to what Shania did with her "Woman in me" album.
Maybe they should let Rene-Charles pick the next single.

what suprises me the most is that many of u sound suprised
the first single flopped in the u.s and the situation is not that great in europ too...they need to release the second single right now or she won't even be in the top 40 albums in 2 weeks

celine won't debut at #1 on the european albums chart too...she did everything she could and we should appreciate it - she went from one country to the other and killed herself during this gig . the problwm is not with her , the problem is with the weak "comeback" single they chose - TCH is just not good enough , each one of the songs on the album could do better .

The irony of it all is that Celine would be possibly selling more at this time if she recorded the David Foster Christmas album instead. The first single is struggling for a no. of reasons. One, it's too "cutesy", too prim and proper as a messenger of hope. Look at today's hits. They're brash, cynical, dark, unapologetic, indulgent. Two, it takes a while for it to be interesting and it's not an easy song to hum along to! LOL Three, deliberate or not, unfair or not, Celine comes across as an Avril Lavigne rip-offer.
Some people here say the next single should be Alone or EOM or FA but who knows for sure when we know Celine is no longer competing on her OWN terms unlike in the previous decade. I really, really hope TCH doesn't turn out to be Celine's own Glitter. I really, really hope. Mariah managed to come back only bec. she upped the sleazery factor and collaborated with rappers whose number could fill the entirety of Titanic. We know Celine is above doing those things.

And all that I can do is pray....and pray....(that's right).
I'm sorry but I "can't fight the feelin'" that Celine's recording future looks like the "skies of la". I really hope I'm very wrong. It would be a pity for her to just "fade away" bec. her voice is still "alone" in its league.

we were optimistic with all this promotion. but lets face the truth, they didnt know how to promote, she is singing her old songs, talking about the world tour, her son & mom coming with her on the world tour, singing Who Let the Dog out & Z100 more than talking bout her new record.
people will come to celine's concerts if her album is selling well, so she needs to talk a lot more bout TC
now, we are praying that the next single will do a LOT BETTER than TC.
God, a MIRACLE is welcomed

^ I still can't freakin figure out why she keeps singing MHWGO, BYLM, and all those other old songs on shows instead of new ones. Why not just sing Eyes on Me, Shadow of Love, Fade Away, or any other ones? I mean the album is already out, why keep hiding the new songs?
#285
Posted 17 November 2007 - 11:04 AM
It probably boils down the fact that she hasn't rehearsed the new songs enough. Eyes on Me intimidates her - if you remember the recording session. But I DO think she should practice them, and sing at least two OTHER songs from the album before she heads back to Vegas. She really, really needs to do that!
I swear if all we get is more Alone and Taking Chances - then the album will suffer.

this is the million dollar question - noone really knows . why coming out with a new record if u keep promoting your old hits instead of the new ones?
#287
Posted 17 November 2007 - 11:07 AM
well, even if she's not comfortable with the new ones, might as well just lip sync it, atleast better than singing the old ones.
#288
Posted 17 November 2007 - 11:09 AM
in most of her European appearances, she sang playback so i think she could do the same in her US promotion tour, and sing new stuff if she didn't practice the songs well, but how can they release an album and do a promotion and she didn't practice the new songs. what is she waiting for?
i am not saying that if she sang other songs, she will be #1 but she might sell more than what we are expecting for during the 1st week in the US.
maybe someone didnt like TC & Alone, but he will buy the record cause he liked Surprise Surprise when she sang it somewhere on the tv...
who knows?

or she can even record a quick new ones and playback and lip it, u know wat i mean.
anyway, this album has great songs and can do well if she sings them. i don't like when ppl lip sync, but who cares, if that's wat it takes to move the album forward, than do it......

I am really AMAZED... but the fact she didn't want to promote her new songs... singing old acts
kinda tells she's not confortable with the album, which is STRANGE... Why doing it, then..
if she's not going for it...why?...
Don't know what to think. This album is great, but seems to have no soul.
She'll be back in vegas... then vacation till tour... no promotion from december 15 to feb...
I'm going nuts -- what's gonna happen to this album??
D'elles 2??? 500,00 only...
GEEZ, not again!
It was an extremely bad thing to ABANDON D'elles...
In fact, it was badly handle to even release D'elles before she ended Vegas.
SHE should have finished las vegas... The the DVD thing would kinda
make her little come back.
2008 >>> D'elles promotion, very well done, all europe, PHISICAL SINGLES,
then promotion in CANADA... 3 singles at least.
time to rest... new album would be recorded at the end of the year.
2009>>> MARCH>>> Taking Chances release, right before summer starts.
Some other song, I don't know. Perhaps Eyes on me.
Then promotion again US, EUROPE, CA...
Time to rest, then, tour preparation AFTER HEARING ABOUT some 2 million copies sold...
or MORE...
The by July, tour starts.
IT was supposed to be great, not only for the sake of the albums,
but for her health, and for us as well.

She needed to release D'elles when she did in order to have some strength of a new French album to sell her concert tickets. It wasn't a complete failure by any means - the album is strong and had a number one single. And it can always pick back up in sales in the future.
Taking Chances is imperative in order to sell out these huge arenas. The next single has got to do well.

Don't you think D'Elles was rushed?... Or Extremely rushed?
only 2 singles... only 1 that you could buy in stores. Immensitè only by iTunes or whatever.
Then... not even 5 months later, Taking Chances... while she's still in Vegas.
Going to promote the album looking tired, sad and somewhat messed...
then goes back to Vegas... cos as Rene thinks, She's Celine Dion -- the album will do
it by it's on legs. Let's do the tour right after.
FEB... tour..>>> I really do hope it has sold somewhat 3 million albums by this time.
