I'm dazzled with the fact that Céline recorded Alone! I love that song, specially Carrie Underwood's version.
I can't wait to listen to this album. It's the very first time, since ANDHC that I'm this excited and anxious about an album.

I forgot to mention that as I was listening to the songs, I was thinking she sounded a bit throaty. Just a bit. Rene did say before they were played that they weren't necessarily the final mix, so Celine wouldn't want these songs leaked on the internet w/o being done. I hate to alarm people but it's definitely not Falling Into You era. I do have to say it didn't take anything away and with these kinds of songs she's singing she sings more relaxed and is less focused on perfection, which she's stated before. I think they have more feeling and sound less mechanical. People reacted very well to the uptempo songs though! Seems the slower ones got a colder reception.
I felt the overall quality was surely worlds above One Heart. I thought the production value was so much better, and none of the songs felt rushed or cheap to me. A couple different ones, but that doesn't mean bad. I don't think I could compare them to anything she's done and say they're better or worse. I think most of the songs are better than her other filler songs on previous albums though. It felt pretty cohesive to me with the majority of them being very electric guitar filled.
While the vocals on Alone were pretty straightforward and didn't convey much feeling or emotion, it's still great to listen to! The arrangement is just a bit diferent, and sounds a tiny bit more "poppy" than the original. I hate to say it but I think people will not like it because she doesn't put any feeling into it or try to make it sound any different. It's VERY straightforward, but it's Celine singing Alone; that's it.
I don't recall any songs on the vocal level of I Surrender, but she sings her butt off a couple times if I remember. That's Just the Woman in Me is probably one of those songs. She sings like she's in a bar somewhere and she's been singing for 3 hours so her voice isn't all there but it sounds intentional to me and it's the most free she's ever sung if you ask me. It reminded me of a Janis Joplin only if she could actually sing, heh. I got chills listening to it and even after the first couple sentences I knew it would be amazing.
Oh yeah, they didn't announce the album title, but on the voucer they passed out, it says something like good for a copy of Celine's new cd "Taking Chances" coming on November 13th.
And something else bothered me a bit...As Rene was making his speech he mentioned it's very important to choose our favorites honestly because only 5 or 6 songs will be chosen...I took that as they played 14 potential album songs but only 5 or 6 would make the album, but he also could have been talking singles...I asked him when he was signing my autograph if he said that all these songs were on the album and he said yes...he could have been distracted though, or he could have answered truthfully, but I had to at least put it out there. I would be totally fine if all songs made it to the album honestly. They're all better quality than some in her past, while a couple are a bit different is all.
Thanks again!!
And how is "Taking Chances" compared to the one of "Platinum Weird"?
Also, was there any mention of "The Woman In Me" as the title of the album (as mentioned in the press)?
Oh and "My Love" is a brand new song right? (hopefully not a cover, especially not that of Westlife's)

No mention of any album title, but I was sure to write in capital letters on the survey to PLEASE DON'T CALL THE ALBUM THE WOMAN IN ME. TAKING CHANCES OR EYES ON ME ARE MUCH BETTER!! heh
As for My Love, I am not at all familiar with Westlife, so I couldn't say for sure! I do know that it was one of the unremarkable songs on the album. Still pretty, but when you have all these other really different songs she normally doesn't sing then these kind fall to the wayside of my memory.
I think people are going to flip over Eyes on Me. This song is incredible the beat is absolutely incredible as well. Same with Can't Fight the Feeling, she just sings with so much ATTITUDE! Way different than what's she's ever done.

Firstly, THANK YOU for posting your review and for remembering so much detail!!
I'm SO excited about this!! I was afraid it would be an RnB album or that it would be much more of a mixed bag. But it sounds like its a pretty coherent pop/rock album. Though as a fan, I'm really excited that she's covering Alone (I've always wanted her too), I think she'll be panned for it. Especially if she doesn't change it up and sings it mechanically. Because Anne is an incredible vocalist and put a lot of emotion into the song. And I love Heart's rockish arrangement of the song. But still, I dont care...I love that freaking song!! Alone and 'It Must Have Been Love' are the two covers on my wishlist, so I'm excited to hear it.
I seriously cannot wait for this record!! Thanks again!

Whhoo now I'm happy!!!!! hehe I'm glad to know it's a rock album!!!!
I think it's great that Celine - I actually love it - is not paying attention to her "voice", going to 'perfection" etc. I prefer now, that's what amazed me - the feeling she puts into her songs and that's for me is the most important thing.
I'm SO excited for this album now!!!!!!!

I hope they will call the album 'Taking Chances' so much better.
The album sounds really awsome! I can`t wait to hear the bluesy song...and of course 'Alone'!!!
I grew up with this song and I`ve loved Heart since I was little so this will definitely be a treat. However, I`m a bit weary of it though...not to say that Celine can`t sing it well, I`m sure she can, but from your description it dosn`t sound nearly as emotional as the original and that`s what made it great. Well I either way I`m SO EXCITED!!!

I have mixed feelings about her covering "Alone". The first thing I thought was: 2 covers already... enough. Then I was thinking that it's an awesome song that fits Celine's style. Hearts original version was so good and so well-known, I'm not sure this is a good idea. It's always risky to cover a classic song like that. Especiallyt if it's just a staight forward vocal
Thank you for the review. Is it November yet??

Just like D'Elles!
Thank you for your review! It was great reading! And it must have been an incredible experience.
Too bad about the sappy and banal tracks. I guess an album needs fill out, don't know why though, I'd prefer a great quality albums with less tracks than an album filled out with not so great quality.
About Alone:
Wow!
When I heard the original I knew I have heard it before and it is great.
I was greatly surprised about the rocky arrengements and the production, and thinking if Céline didn't add much vocally these arrengements will add a lot to Céline anyway and I was happy with that.
However hearing later the arrengements were replaced with poppy ones my hopes fell. Do something about this SONY - get her the variety of arrengements she deserves!!
(the fact that Carrie already made this track live again is for me a bad sign, and a real feed for the critics, just like with Nature Boy, it had just been included in the smash hit Moulin Rouge when Céline added it to ANDHC)
About My Love:
LVCeline, was this a cover of this song: My Love - Sofia Källgren and Robert Wells ? Judged by your review it could very well be this one. If that's the case we know this is the song which she worked on with Robert Wells. Otherwise it was the one with a lot of piano, sadly it didn't get such a great review either, but perhaps it's a track which needs a few listenings.
I am both relieved and sad there weren't more truth to the R&B hip hop romours, even though that ain't my kind of music at all and I really can't stand the attention this kind of music gets I still though it was nice to see Céline take a big step in another music direction.
I am very curious about the tracks you described as different!
And I feel a bit bad for Céline by all of us dissing the Woman In Me title, clearly it was from the last track which seems as a super track which I am most anxious to hear, and seems to have meant something for her.....
(almost like Janis Joplin, and you think that is a bad comparison?!

Hey, maybe since everyone was so well behaved and didn't take any bootlegs, TC can throw us a bone and post 30 seconds of Taking Chances. Wishful thinking maybe?
