Céline Dion to record English and French albums, not ruling out fourth child | Montreal Gazette Blogs Céline Dion to record English and French albums, not ruling out fourth child September 16, 2011. 4:06 pm • Section: Showbiz Chez Nous Sadly, I will not be able to write my angry ‘Waiting for Céline’ column blasting the superstar for standing me up. Céline Dion did indeed stand me up Tuesday but she came through Friday afternoon and was happy to chat with me for a half-hour on her way to the airport in New York after performing Thursday night in Central Park with Andrea Bocelli. You’ll get all the details in my feature in The Gazette Saturday, Oct. 1 but I figured it’s only fair to give you a little advance taste ahead of the game to satisfy your insatiable hunger for Celine news. First-off, there are new English and French albums on the way, with the album in the language of Barbra due spring, 2012 and the French one a bit later. Dion and husband/manager René Angélil told me the English album will contain several songs from the new Las Vegas show, including her cover of the old Janis Ian hit At 17. Angélil also said the English disc will definitely include her version of Jacques Brel’s standard Ne Me Quitte Pas, which draws a standing O nightly in Vegas, and, probably, her rendition of Journey’s Open Arms, which is the show’s opening number. They are just starting to discuss what direction to take for the Franco album. Earlier in the week, I had a blog about Dion’s remarks in the OWN documentary (airing in Canada Oct. 2) suggesting she might consider having a fourth child. Those comments come right at the end of the special (a show she has yet to see apparently). So I asked - Do you want to have another kid? “I would love that,” said Dion. “For sure. You never know. Never put an X on something that might happen again. We don’t know what the future holds for us. Who knows?” But is there any time frame? “No. Well obviously women’s cyle of life for having children…” And that’s right when our cell-phone connection broke down. But Dion – who’s 43, if you’re wondering – was back a minute later and we talked about a bunch of other stuff. But you’ll have to wait to read about that. Shaun Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 It's good they are discussing a "direction" for the new French album as they always seem to do for her French discs. It would be fabulous if they did the same for an English album instead of the now usual "let's chuck some random covers onto an album." Kyle_Jared Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 She does a show on March 18 and then there are are no more shows until June 9 2012 So the new Enlgish album could be out anywhere between (late) March 2012 or Early May 2012 My Guess: April 2012

CelineAndRene Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I'm so excited! I was hoping the new album would include songs from the show!! How amazing this will be! Koolan Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 They should put the songs from the show as a bonus disc with some promotional video. Please support the forum by ordering through our Amazon.com referral link below. Click here to go to the Amazon homepage.
Solan Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 If it's only a few covers on there... fine. Celine's albums always have had covers. Some of her biggest successes are covers anyway ("Power of Love", "All by myself", etc). If done well, it should be good. What worries me though is that the style of songs in the new Vegas show is quite classical, isn't it? Orchestral music and kind of mellow? I haven't seen much from that show so I don't know if that's the case. But anyway, if they do decide to include the covers (they might change their minds, you never know), I hope they will be like 'separated' from the actual NEW songs. Because an album in the style of orchestral mellow music is not going to be the kickass comeback a lot of fans are hoping for. If the direction and aim of the english album is to please the actual fanbase, then I'm sure it will be a success in that regard. But if they want Celine to be noticed in the world of music again, then perhaps they should rethink it. They are STILL talking about the French album? I thought they already recorded a lot of stuff and they were merely adding a song or two that they just received? Oh well, it seems that at least the French album will be 100% new music. I like her english stuff, but her French stuff is definitely the best of Celine so excited for the French album! I do hope the english album is good though. Even if it's just catering to her already acquired admirers, I hope it's done well.
amelie Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I'm surprised they won't release the english album (covers +3 songs?) before Christmas considering the rise in sales and the promo she does at the moment. Maybe we could hope for more new tracks and less covers on it? At least the covers mentioned are the ones i'd like to have in studio (At 17, Ne me quitte pas, Open arms) I'd also like Lullaby and Overjoyed. Since this is going to be a studio album and not a live one this leaves enough space on the album for more new tracks
anewdayhascome Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 EhhhhhhExactly show's songs should be only a bonus not the main part!I'm disappointed... again... This album will be a mixture of everything and nothing... I don't understand why to mix sth like At 17 and Ne me quitte pas together... It's good for a show, good for a live cd but for the album? again an album without a concept nor at least consequence. What frightens me the most though is that they are still DISCUSSING about the French album. I thought that after they had abandoned the songs chosen while she was pregnant they were quite sure what they were going to deliver with songs from Plamondon, Ferland etc... and now they are again looking for more? Jesus, it's going so loooooooooooong At least a French album will be a true gem, I don't wait for the English album at all. Javito Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 (edited) Now the english album is coming next spring, this comes to be umpteenth delay. So a waiting of almost 5 years when it is released (if not more time, judging by the multiple put offs), covers for show songs like Open Arms? At Seventeen? Ne Me Quitte Pas? Not very exciting sorry René should be fired, indeed They should put the songs from the show as a bonus disc with some promotional video. Or included as iTunes or Spotify bonus tracks for a digital release, for example. But not in her new english material after almost 5 (FIVE!!!) years. Not there, definetly They should urgently leave the a new disc with only brand new material ALONE. If they want to do some boring covers just give them as a bonus, for God's sake. Leave the main disc alone with brand new songs. More cover recordings for her english career, that's going to kill her reputation as one of the best recording artists in music. "The golden voice of music recordings reduced to an amateur singer who mainly records covers" I can hear that in the upcoming music reviews and critics Honestly I don't know what's going on in René's brain as the manager he used to be in the 80's and 90's Edited September 17, 2011 by Javito "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Alex_Incognito Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 Money, money, money. Money isn't in the albums anymore. I guess they're making this one to shut us up! LOL "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
Javito Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 Money, money, money. Money isn't in the albums anymore. I guess they're making this one to shut us up! LOL Absolutely, Alex Money is in exploiting her doing the Vegas marathon Geez the image they give to the industry is pathetic concerning this english album, they can't even mention a producer nor a songwritter they're working with for the last 4 years. Just saying again and again "we have this and that COVER" "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Claudette Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 (edited) My thoughts exactly. It sounds like they are just going to throw a bunch of random songs on an album to keep us quiet. What saddens me is the fact that we are the ones that fill their pockets with money and still they don't give a crap what her fans want. No matter how loud we scream and shout, they just f*** ahead (sorry for the direct translation). It will take her the same amount of time to record the covers than for brand new songs, so I just don't get what their problem is with recording new material. Another thing that bothers me is that everytime Celine records a cover that she first sang live in a concert, it loses some of its magic. Take TFTEISYF for example. ''At 17''and NMQP are perfect as it is now, I don't want her to record them. I really hope and pray that it is only 2 or 3 songs and that the rest of the album consists of new songs. I totally agree with Javito, they are turning Celine into the joke of the last decade. She is an established artist, she does not need to sing other people's songs. Nobody will take her seriously with an album full of covers. I have more hope for the French album, and it is so sad because more than half of her fans will never hear it. duri Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I´m bit disappointed, I really thought that english album will be out before Christmast this year and french early 2012. But if english album would be album with 3 covers and rest new songs and no as they said before 3 news songs and covers, than I´m Ok with spring 2012, but still I can´t believe so much that it will be something more than mix of covers and some new songs ... and about french album I´m very curious what will be that album like after so many times they changed date of realizing, now afterall I won ´t be surprised if french album will be out next year fall ... http://www.supermusic.sk/obrazky/80543_Celine%209.jpg
anewdayhascome Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 What's more this kind of album they could have easily released back in March, they were rehearsing those songs for the show so why not record them right away? or record them in summer and release it this fall/winter. It's hilarious that the album that won't consist of totally new material (except from those 3 rumoured 3 tracks) and the covers we already know takes them so long! They could have done it, we would have been happy THEN and later release brand new album but now?! I think it's high time we stopped talking about all this, because it seems that more and more of us are thinking this way, ok we know it, alas we have to face it and just wait. Nothing more can be said. Disappointment, that's all A New Day... 10th & 11th November 2006 Taking Chances World Tour, Antwerp 13th & 14th May 2008, Kraków 28th June 2008 Celine 25th & 27th & 31st August 2013 20th, 23rd, 24th, 27th & 28th September 2016 Sans attendre Tour, Paris 1st & 5th December 2013 Encore un soir, Paris 24th, 25th, 28th, 29th June & 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th July 2016 Live 2017 Stockholm 17th June 2017 Lille 1st & 2nd July 2017 Paris 8th & 9th July 2017 Berlin 23rd & 24th July 2017 Live 2018 Taipei 11th & 13th July 2018 Manila 19th July 2018 Bangkok 23rd July 2018 BST Hyde Park London 5 July 2019
Timster Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 They should put the songs from the show as a bonus disc with some promotional video. Absolutely! If they recorded a proper studio album, then these Vegas songs would be ideal for a bonus disc in a 2CD deluxe/collector's edition! My thoughts exactly. It sounds like they are just going to throw a bunch of random songs on an album to keep us quiet. What saddens me is the fact that we are the ones that fill their pockets with money and still they don't give a crap what her fans want. No matter how loud we scream and shout, they just f*** ahead. Nobody will take her seriously with an album full of covers. I have more hope for the French album, and it is so sad because more than half of her fans will never hear it. I agree, these songs have nothing in common, and some of them are already really big songs (so she will be criticised for covering them!). I also prefer Celine not to record covers she originally sang live. Take RDMH for example, that has always been a popular song in her concerts since 1994, but I really don't think the FIY studio recording increased it's popularity. I'm 99% sure this song would still be a fan favourite today if she had never recorded it in studio, because people already knew the song way before Celine started singing it. I think it's great how certain songs like Calling You & QONQL were performed a lot in the 90s yet never recorded - why does she need to when we have great live versions? The same applies to the Vegas songs, they are fine how they are! If this album FLOPS big time, then Rene might realise that that people want to hear Celine's songs, not an album full of unrelated covers only worthy of an EP or bonus disc somewhere!
