KyleVan41 Posted January 1, 2026 at 11:10 PM Posted January 1, 2026 at 11:10 PM I do tend to this of this quote from Celine on opening night back onstage after Rene passed away…. “I understood that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him.” Céline Dion And it’s a shame that even if Celine be onstage that the rest is handled so poorly. Illness aside, the legacy is taking a hit. It’s also abundantly clear that those who she left in charge of her career in these last few years don’t care. It’s blatantly obvious. 1 Quote
CélineI'mAlive Posted January 1, 2026 at 11:47 PM Posted January 1, 2026 at 11:47 PM (edited) I have a different theory that probably won't sit well with most fans here. Like Celine, I'm going to use AI, but I've limited my answer to academic research: "A 38-year-old meeting a 12-year-old and becoming her "mentor" while taking over major responsibilities in her life can create a strong dependency and power imbalance—something grooming tactics often aim for. If he was shaping her life/career in a way that isolated her from age-appropriate supports, encouraged secrecy, or positioned himself as the only person who "understands" or can "make her a star," that aligns with commonly described grooming dynamics (dependency, isolation, power/control). The younger the child at first contact and the more total the adult's control over career, money, housing, or daily decisions, the more the situation resembles grooming rather than a healthy mentor relationship. When someone's autonomy and agency have been restricted over time (a common effect of coercive control), the death of the controlling partner can leave the survivor without the skills, confidence, or social scaffolding needed to self-direct life." Maybe, just maybe, she isn't a cash cow, but someone who is putting her life in the hands of others, because that's the only thing she was taught to do. A lot of you run from that perspective, but if it barks like a dog and walks like a dog… it might just be a dog. It explains everything.I don’t think it’s René fault for being overprotective of her. It wasn’t any kind of grooming (although, as you mention based on scientific reasoning, René could have done it without realizing it). I spend all day downloading and cataloging Céline’s videos, and in one of them, you can hear René say: “I take care of everything. I don’t want her to have stress at home” (referring to her work). I agree with TSHWL. I think she currently focuses on the present and the future, not the past. While it’s true that they’ve been taking photos of the vault for many months, I feel that Céline doesn’t care about that since it’s not related to singing. From what René said, she’s probably used to sitting back and not worrying about the administrative, legal, or communication aspects of her career. I think it would be good for her career to do an A New Day again—a music residency in Las Vegas, with theater, just like they did in A New Day le spectacle… that way she wouldn’t have to push herself so much. 1 Quote

CélineI'mAlive Posted January 3, 2026 at 02:27 AM Posted January 3, 2026 at 02:27 AM I study Economics at university and I have knowledge of Marketing. You are talking about things that are quite mistaken from the perspective of Marketing and Economics. It’s not really that people dedicate themselves to “transmitting”; rather, we are talking about market segmentation, typical of any niche. Let us remember that vinyl and records are still a target for record companies, and that in reality, CDs have not yet reached their point of decline in terms of the CD as a product and in the analysis of population consumption. Vinyl did reach a decline phase in its time, but currently, it is in a period of full life.I don’t mean that Céline’s music should be treated as it is in Quebec, but obviously, there is a geographic segmentation that Sony should adhere to. I don’t think I am the only fan of Céline in Spain. Of course, we don’t know Sony Music’s internal data. In contrast, in Spain, record stores are full of albums by practically unknown artists like Paula Koops or Edurne, or by more psychographically niche artists, such as Fangoria. I’m not saying they are bad, but from my point of view as a Marketing student, I don’t understand why that music (which, by the way, I’m a big fan of) is promoted massively in Spanish record stores, whereas Céline’s, which is mainstream music, is not. On the other hand, Céline’s albums are very hard to find.Without knowing Sony Music’s internal data precisely, I believe that in Spain, there are enough Céline fans to generate profitability (something that can be quickly estimated using a break-even calculation). Interestingly, even though Rosalía is from our country, she is not widely present in record stores. Bad Bunny isn’t even in the record stores. Today in Spain, record stores have not disappeared. There are both local and chain stores. Notably, in Madrid, there is a gigantic multi-floor store—a macro store—that is one of the largest commercial buildings in all of Madrid, entirely dedicated to CDs, DVDs, and vinyl. You are speaking from a U.S.-centered perspective, but there are more countries beyond yours, with different cultures and different ways of listening to music… In the U.S., I bet you can find news about Céline. In Spain, her content is hidden across the Internet, and you can only access it via a VPN from the U.S. If you think that legacy is really being well managed… Back in René’s time (whom I never got to know), I’m sure this didn’t happen. What bothers me are the random pop-ups that feel more like cash grabs than meaningful creative projects, particularly when she's clearly not in need of the money. Maybe that expectation is too high That's fair. I do think if the question is whether Celine has "sold out," it's clear she did so even super early in her career with Chrysler and Diet Coke. But lately it's mainly in classy projects with some personal connection to her. She has always adored Elie Saab and regularly wears his gowns, and she has collabbed with Charlotte Tilbury before. Her landing Maybelline and Charlotte Tilbury as a 56 year old woman has other implications beyond just commercial ones (as an older woman, but also one who has always felt like an ugly duckling). When Celine starts doing infomercials for detox teas I'll probably be the first to piss and moan. Regardless, you're absolutely right that Celine is part of a super-rich elite and doesn't really need to be doing any of this. But one thing I have always wondered about is whether there is credence to the rumors that swirled for years about how Rene made her pay off tens in millions in gambling debts? I always wondered why she was so attached to the idea of these 400 show Vegas contracts that wore her voice ragged. 1 Quote

In fact, the artists I mentioned are so niche that, in the case of Paula Koops, all her fans have a Telegram group where we talk directly with her—no manager, no intermediaries, just people who know her from her songs—and we even discuss our thoughts on the movies we watch. Many fans are even friends with her.On the other hand, Fangoria personally sends us a Christmas card every year and even invites their fans to private parties. There is no ageism in music to the point of saying that it’s no longer suitable for Céline to target the Spanish market. Many things could be done without her having to sing again: deluxe editions for Spain, not hiding news about Céline in the Spanish territory… very simple things. Quote

You should understand that English is not my native language. Would you understand me perfectly if I spoke to you in Spanish?First of all, I don’t know if you know this, but in Spain, some record labels inflate the numbers of song plays and streams… something I’ve seen with my own eyes. I’m not speaking from assumptions. I don’t know if you know, but this is a form of the economic phenomenon called the “herd effect.”Secondly, these artists are not necessarily among the most listened-to. I’m not talking about the experience of someone who knows a few dozen people, but rather someone with a huge network of friends (we’re talking hundreds and hundreds) across many different fields. In Spain, Rosalía is mainly listened to by the LGBTQ+ community (which is huge in Spain) and what we call “alternative kids” (who prefer drawing or skateboarding instead of going to nightclubs…).According to you, Rosalía might be widely listened to, as well as Conejo Malo, but I haven’t seen any Conejo Malo albums in stores yet (and I go often, practically once a week), and as for Rosalía, not even her latest album LUX is available in stores. I think you’re quite mistaken in what you’re saying. I believe we should respect each person’s point of view. For example, you’re looking at it from your perspective in terms of how well her career has been managed. It may be well managed in the U.S., but in Spain, there aren’t even CDs or vinyls of her albums. It’s quite difficult to go to a record store and find her music. Moreover, in Spain, we were only able to see her live once (in 1992). Since then, she hasn’t returned (except for the brief promotion of A New Day Has Come in 2002). People don’t even know My Heart Will Go On, and many don’t even recognize her by name or by a photo. We’re not asking for anything unusual; we just want her to adapt to what we, as listeners and consumers, expect from her—something all singers do.It’s not about confetti; it’s about wanting her to evolve and build a new legacy according to the times. Meanwhile, she’s lagging behind, outdated, and forgotten in a drawer. Not because she’s a bad singer, but because she doesn’t give us what we’re asking for. You can’t say you don’t want to hide things and now have everything about her be a secret. The lack of visibility for Celine in Spain has everything to do with whatever branch of Sony is based in Spain. That has nothing to do with Celine herself. 2 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay
