I can't imagine not enjoying the beauty for her French work. Even before I spoke French I loved the feel. Anglophones are an odd lot in that they think the world revolves around people doing things to make their pleasure or lives easier.

 

This might be because most of the popular music is in English. Like here in Europe, we all grew up listening to American and British songs without understanding a single word, so it's no different with French - we don't understand the lyrics, but we like the music.

 

However, Americans grew up listening to English songs that they could immediately understand and sing along. So, they're very used to it, and they might be more reluctant to listen to songs they don't understand.

It’s very understandable that she doesn’t listen to people’s criticism after concerts. She already demands so much from herself in every performance, every album... this has been said by people who have worked with her in the studio. This time, a university professor and a brilliant student from the degree she was studying went with Céline to record a version of the song “Hymne A L’Amour” (which she sang at the Paris Olympics). I think the version she sang in Paris was live, but maybe she wanted to have playback just in case. Also, in the video where she is seen rehearsing in Paris, you can see she has vocal support, maybe that’s what the professor and his student recorded. I know this because in my country there was a news story related to that, but it was very little spread and now I can’t find it. Maybe she doesn’t give us what we want because she doesn’t listen to criticism. We already know Céline is someone who doesn’t like technology very much, so I doubt she reads us. Before, the one who was aware of what we said or didn’t say was René, but unfortunately, he left. According to what I’ve read, René kept track of everything said about her, all the news... etc.

 

Yes, but according to the comments I remember she doesn't even want to hear positive feedback from fans it seems. It overwhelms her in a way, or has the potential to.

 

Music critics are one thing, but distance from the fans is another. Perhaps it's healthier that way, but like you said then she can't get a sense of how we feel and what we want. Are her team paying attention?

I don't think anyone confirmed that (Closer will make up whatever, they're not reliable at all).

 

The "rédacteur en chef" of Paris Match (Benjamin Locoge) said that he had confirmation from Céline's management that JJG wrote a new song for her but that he doesn't intend to produce it.

Why aren't they putting that effort in her music? Live in Memphis/FIY Tour DVD is still missing. Uploading her concerts on Amazon Prime etc....

But I guess this doesn't make much money these days.
