Sorry it’s been a whirlwind. Took 6+ hrs to get there from Boston last night. The general admission area was a great vibe. I have to say it was quite depressing to hear the female singers sing her songs, because it just doesn’t give me the feeling I get from Celine of course. However, Patrick Fiori was great to hear live and Bruno Pelletier…I haven’t seen or heard him live the Millenium concert when I was a teenager…he still has it! Anggun’s voice is also very unique and cool. The rest I was just enjoying the most of it, but it was a great summer concert night and the closest we’ll get to Celine any time soon unfortunately. I am wiped and got a long drive back tmw, but I think it will be a great show for tv!

The musician Jacques Dion was invited to the recording of the program Pour toi Céline on September 3, in Quebec.

 

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – The singer's brother, silent since the announcement of her illness, is invited to the recording of the program “Pour toi Céline” which will be broadcast on September 15 on M6. On this occasion, he was kind enough to answer our questions.

Like 49 other members of the Dion dynasty, this musician and brother of the famous singer was invited to the recording of the program Pour toi Céline , yesterday September 3 in Quebec. This tribute to Celine Dion and Jean-Jacques Goldman on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of their album d'Eux will be broadcast on September 15 at 9:10 p.m. on M6. As a preview, we spoke with one of the singer's elders.

You were 13 when Celine, the youngest of the Dion siblings, was born. Are you a musician like all your brothers and sisters but do you have a special brotherly bond?

We had a musical bond very early on. I played the guitar alongside her and, when I was 25 and she was twelve, I co-composed with her on the kitchen table, several titles including Ce n'tait qu'un rêve . Céline composed the chorus, I the verses and our mother Thérèse wrote the lyrics. We also worked on the titles Grand-maman and Snowflakes . It was just a dream and Grandma are featured on Celine's debut album, La Voix du Bon Dieu released in 1981. This disc produced by René Angélil was distributed only in Quebec. Never in France. Then, the famous lyricist Eddy Marnay took over, he launched Céline followed later by Luc Plamondon then by Jean-Jacques Goldman.

For my part, I have lived all my life from music. From the age of 25, I had my own group and I gave many concerts in Quebec and Canada. I was also a producer and agent for a rock band that was doing very well. In 2017, my wife Geneviève and I returned to the stage after fourteen years of caring for our quadriplegic son after a fall while skiing at the age of sixteen. Céline and our mother Thérèse were in the front row. Today at 68 years old , I love and will always love to make music. I live in Repentigny, a town near Charlemagne near where I was born, and I work in the studio on occasion with Geneviève, who is a singer, but I'm in early retirement (laughs ) .

Did you find Céline and her sons René Charles, Eddy and Nelson during the recording of the show on September 3?

They stayed in Las Vegas where they live. The twins go to school and Céline takes care of them every day. She is a mom first and foremost. She plays this role wonderfully. In this sense, she is very similar to our mother Thérèse. In our family, the women adore the children, they are very spoiled.

How is Celine?

I'm not going to go ahead, I prefer that she say it herself or her team of doctors or her communicators. I have no expertise in the neurological field. Specialists are working hard to find what is wrong. It's just a matter of time. You have to be patient and stay positive. Céline is a perfectionist, she always goes to the end of things and wants to know exactly what is happening to her. It doesn't have to be a drama. She is playful, she is delighted to be with her children and she works every day to find the secret of her health problems.

When have you seen her lately?

A few weeks ago at the beginning of August. We had organized a big family celebration. Céline and my sister Linda, with whom she lives, were present via zoom. As always in our family where we are all musicians, someone started to sing and on the other side of the screen, Céline sang with us.

Her last video message to her fans dates from December 2022. Why did she stop giving regular updates?

Her situation does not change from week to week. She prefers to wait for the real prognosis and therefore the right treatment. Celine is very lucid and refuses to complain. As she says, I am surrounded by the best doctors and many others are not so lucky.

How did you end up on this show?

I know its producer, Sylvain Parent-Bédard, CEO of the Quebec company Sismyk. In 2013, he produced the show “Céline Dion on the Plains of Abraham”. In this show filmed in Quebec at 2:30 from Montreal, my brothers, my sisters and I sang on stage with Céline. When I heard about this new Celine Dion special, I called it because one of my brothers wanted to attend. Sylvain exclaimed: “You are all welcome! This time he invited the whole family.

When you invite all the Dions, you have to be very careful and have the infrastructure to receive us ( laughs ). Because we are more than 120! My mother Thérèse (1927-2020) and my father Adhémar (1923-2003) had 14 children, 40 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren! When we meet for Christmas, for example, we have to rent a large hall. This time, a good half could not come, so we will be 50. We have VIP seats in the middle of the public, there will be between 7 and 8000 spectators but we will not go on stage.

On Sunday, will Celine watch the taping live from her Las Vegas property?

She will see the show once the editing is complete. She gave her consent because she is very proud that the album of D’eux is still celebrated thirty years after its release, as the best-selling French-language record in the world with more than 7 million copies sold. She also has very good memories of the producer and the first tribute he dedicated to her in 2013. René Angélil (1942-2016) her husband and manager is no longer there but she can count on Scott Price, her musical director since 2015.

This conductor and pianist will be surrounded by musicians and singers who have accompanied Céline for more than twenty years on stage, in Las Vegas and on tour. This great orchestra knows its repertoire perfectly. The French and Quebec performers follow one another on stage to sing the famous songs from the album of D’eux like I will go where you will go , Prière païenne, Vole or Pour que tu m'aimes encore .

Such a tribute when Céline is only 55 years old, isn't it a little early, will sad people see in it a pessimistic vision of her future?

It would be total nonsense. This tribute is a declaration of love from all of us to Céline. You have to surround him with positive things and talk about her music rather than her health concerns. This great concert at the Agora of the Port of Quebec on the banks of the St. Lawrence River is also the fireworks, the grand finale of the week of the SuperFrancoFête, of which this is the second edition. We celebrate the beauty and richness of our language through music. Here in Quebec, in North America, we are surrounded by a sea of ​​Anglophones and we fight every day to preserve our culture and the French language.

At the end of 2009, Céline celebrated the fifteenth anniversary of this mythical album with a television program which preceded a reissue of D’eux for the end of the year celebrations. A remastered version with bonuses, demos from the personal archives of Jean-Jacques Goldman and a DVD. What can fans expect for Christmas 2023?

Comme 49 autres membres de la dynastie Dion, ce musicien et frère de la célèbre chanteuse a été invité à l'enregistrement de l'émission Pour toi Céline, hier le 3 septembre à Québec. Cet hommage à Céline Dion et à Jean-Jacques Goldman à l'occasion des 30 ans de leur album d'Eux sera diffusé le 15 septembre à 21h10 sur M6. En avant-première, nous avons nous entretenir avec un des aînés de la chanteuse.

S'INSCRIRE

Vous aviez 13 ans quand Céline la petite dernière de la fratrie Dion est née. Vous êtes musicien comme tous vos frères et sœurs mais vous avez un lien fraternel particulier ?

Nous avons eu un lien musical très tôt. J'ai joué de la guitare à ses côtés et, quand j'avais 25 ans et elle douze ans, j'ai co-composé avec elle sur la table de la cuisine, plusieurs titres dont Ce n'était qu'un rêve. Céline a composé le refrain, moi les couplets et notre mère Thérèse a écrit les paroles. Nous avons aussi travaillé sur les titres Grand-maman et Flocons de neige. Ce n'était qu'un rêve et Grand-maman figurent sur le premier album de Céline, La Voix du Bon Dieu sorti en 1981. Ce disque produit par René Angélil a été distribué uniquement au Québec. Jamais en France. Ensuite, le célèbre parolier Eddy Marnay a pris la relève, il a lancé Céline suivi plus tard par Luc Plamondon puis par Jean-Jacques Goldman.

De mon côté, j'ai vécu toute ma vie de la musique. Dès l'âge de 25 ans, j'avais mon propre groupe et j'ai donné beaucoup de concerts au Québec et au Canada. J'ai aussi été producteur et agent d'un groupe de rock qui marchait très bien. En 2017, mon épouse Geneviève et moi-même sommes remontés sur scène après nous être occupés pendant quatorze ans de notre fils tétraplégique après une chute en ski à l'âge de seize ans. Céline et notre mère Thérèse étaient au premier rang. Aujourd'hui à 68 ans, j'aime et j'aimerai toujours faire de la musique. Je vis à Repentigny ville voisine de Charlemagne près de là où je suis né et je travaille en studio à l'occasion avec Geneviève qui est chanteuse mais je suis en préretraite (rires).

Avez-vous retrouvé Céline et ses fils René Charles, Eddy et Nelson lors de l'enregistrement de l'émission, le 3 septembre dernier ?

Ils sont restés à Las Vegas où ils habitent. Les jumeaux vont à l'école et Céline s'occupe d'eux tous les jours. Elle est une maman avant tout. Elle joue ce rôle à merveille. En ce sens, elle ressemble beaucoup à notre mère Thérèse. Dans notre famille, les femmes adorent les enfants, ils sont très gâtés.

Comment va Céline ?

Je ne vais pas m'avancer, je préfère qu'elle le dise elle-même ou son équipe de médecins ou ses communicants. Je n'ai aucune expertise dans le domaine neurologique. Les spécialistes travaillent d'arrache-pied pour trouver ce qui ne va pas. C'est juste une question de temps. Il faut être patient et rester positif. Céline est une perfectionniste, elle va toujours au bout des choses et veut savoir exactement ce qui lui arrive. Il ne faut pas en faire un drame. Elle est enjouée, elle est ravie d'être avec ses enfants et elle travaille tous les jours pour trouver le secret de ses soucis de santé.

Quand l'avez-vous vue dernièrement ?

Il y a quelques semaines au début du mois d'août. Nous avions organisé une grande fête familiale. Céline et ma sœur Linda avec qui elle vit, étaient présentes via zoom. Comme toujours dans notre famille où nous sommes tous musiciens, quelqu'un s'est mis à chanter et de l'autre côté de l'écran, Céline a chanté avec nous.

Son dernier message vidéo à ses fans date de décembre 2022. Pourquoi a-t-elle arrêté de donner régulièrement de ses nouvelles ?

Sa situation ne change pas d'une semaine à l'autre. Elle préfère attendre les vrais pronostiques et donc le bon traitement. Céline est très lucide et refuse de se plaindre. Comme elle dit, je suis entourée des meilleurs médecins et bien d'autres n'ont pas cette chance.

Comment vous êtes-vous retrouvé dans cette émission ?

Je connais son producteur, Sylvain Parent-Bédard, Pdg de la société québécoise Sismyk. En 2013, il avait produit l'émission «Céline Dion sur les plaines d'Abraham». Dans cette émission tournée à Québec à 2h30 de Montréal, mes frères, mes sœurs et moi-même avions chanté sur scène avec Céline. Quand j'ai entendu parler de ce nouveau spécial Céline Dion, je l'ai appelé car l'un de mes frères souhaitait y assister. Sylvain s'est exclamé : « Vous êtes tous les bienvenus ! » Cette fois, il a invité toute la famille.

Quand vous invitez tous les Dion, il faut être très prudent et avoir les infrastructures pour nous recevoir (rires). Car nous sommes plus de 120 ! Ma mère Thérèse (1927-2020) et mon père Adhémar (1923-2003) ont eu 14 enfants, 40 petits-enfants et 52 arrière-petits-enfants ! Quand nous nous retrouvons pour la Noël par exemple, nous sommes obligés de louer une grande salle. Cette fois, une bonne moitié ne pouvait pas venir, nous serons donc 50. Nous avons des places VIP au milieu du public, il y aura entre 7 et 8000 spectateurs mais nous ne monterons pas sur scène.

Dimanche, Céline va-t-elle regarder en direct l'enregistrement depuis sa propriété de Las Vegas ?

Elle verra l'émission une fois le montage terminé. Elle a donné son accord car elle est très fière que l'album d'Eux soit encore célébré trente ans après sa sortie, comme le disque francophone le plus vendu au monde avec plus de 7 millions d'exemplaires écoulés. Elle garde aussi un très bon souvenir du producteur et du premier hommage qu'il lui avait consacré en 2013. René Angélil (1942-2016) son mari et manager n'est plus là mais elle peut compter sur Scott Price, son directeur musical depuis 2015.

Ce chef d'orchestre et pianiste sera entouré des musiciens et des choristes qui accompagnent Céline depuis plus de vingt ans sur scène, à Las Vegas comme en tournée. Ce grand orchestre connaît parfaitement son répertoire. Les interprètes français et québécois se succèdent sur scène pour chanter les célèbres chansons de l'album d'Eux comme J'irai où tu iras, Prière païenne, Vole ou encore Pour que tu m'aimes encore.

Un tel hommage alors que Céline n'a que 55 ans, ce n'est pas un peu tôt, les esprits chagrins y verront une vision pessimiste quant à son futur ?

Ce serait un contresens total. Cet hommage est une déclaration d'amour de nous tous à Céline. Il faut l'entourer de choses positives et qu'on parle de sa musique plutôt que de ses soucis de santé. Ce grand concert à l'Agora du Port de Québec au bord du fleuve Saint-Laurent est aussi le feu d'artifice, le grand final de la semaine de la SuperFrancoFête dont c'est la deuxième édition. Nous célébrons la beauté et la richesse de notre langue à travers la musique. Ici au Québec, en Amérique du Nord, nous sommes entourés d'une mer d'Anglophones et nous nous battons tous les jours pour conserver notre culture et la langue française.

Fin 2009, Céline avait fêté les quinze ans de cet album mythique avec une émission de télévision qui avait précédé une réédition d'Eux pour les fêtes de fin d'année. Une version remastérisée agrémentée de bonus, de démo issus des archives personnelles de Jean-Jacques Goldman et d'un DVD. Que peuvent espérer les fans pour Noël 2023 ?

Je n'en ai aucune idée, il faudrait demander à sa maison de disques, Sony Music.
