Shamrock_1982 Posted April 27, 2020 at 05:19 PM Posted April 27, 2020 at 05:19 PM Hilarious! Never expect too much from her anymore, I don’t get why people are so surprised lol. She’s only interested in Fashion these days and only done last weeks show because Ga-Ga called her. 1 Quote
PuraVida Posted April 27, 2020 at 06:39 PM Posted April 27, 2020 at 06:39 PM I’m shocked she didn’t upload another new message, more than the fact that she didn’t perform. I mean how many people actually gave a true performance if it was 80+ participants? (Sorry I didn’t watch.) Quote
PuraVida Posted April 27, 2020 at 06:42 PM Posted April 27, 2020 at 06:42 PM (edited) Really? That’s so funny. I mean, when you consider how many awards she has, it makes sense. Where would you put them? It would be pretentious and extremely tacky to have an “awards room”. She’s not singing for the awards anyway, she singing for the moneee- I mean... the fans. I didn’t even think about all the awards that aren’t Grammys! Imagine they are melting in a storage unit in Las Vegas desert somewhere But yes she said something along those lines, she doesn’t want to be reminded that’s it all for awards because it’s not, etc etc Edit: @1:50 Edited April 27, 2020 at 06:46 PM by PuraVida 1 Quote

scielle Posted April 28, 2020 at 12:02 AM Author Posted April 28, 2020 at 12:02 AM (edited) It's just a shame because she really missed out on the opportunity to do something memorable. This was a huge platform - a captive audience (literally!), the entire country tuned in (it was basically on every channel and every radio station... you couldn't escape that broadcast if you tried!). Audience was > 5.2 million, vs, for instance, the Junos at <1 million in 2019. I wonder when, if ever, she'll get a TV audience like that again. Edited April 28, 2020 at 12:20 AM by scielle 1 Quote
Xpresso Posted April 28, 2020 at 12:22 AM Posted April 28, 2020 at 12:22 AM (edited) @nmj (I can't quote for some reason) Of course she can't be into it as much as she was 30 years ago. You'll be the same after doing your job for 30 years. She still loves to perform but I think she can't stand doing promo and all the "fake" stuff anymore. And now when she tours, she actually sees things, which she didn't do that much 20 years ago. It was all about promo, promo, promo... She did One Word last week and that was an international platform. And Canadians also watched One World so it's not like they haven't seen it. And if she does something for the Quebec, then all is fine in my book. Edited April 28, 2020 at 12:23 AM by Xpresso Quote

After factoring in all networks, online platforms, radio, audience was 11.5 million. That's huge. 1/3 Canadians tuned in. couldawouldashoulda Posted April 28, 2020 at 02:06 AM Posted April 28, 2020 at 02:06 AM I believe it was said Celine would be “participating” in the broadcast. Not “performing.” Look for those words in the future and it will help you to know what to expect. Then people don’t make up giant stories about what’s going to happen and then be disappointed. Quote

I wonder whether that's because it'll take a different format than the other events and be less about performances and more about the "common folk" on the ground. ewh12 Posted April 29, 2020 at 05:05 PM Posted April 29, 2020 at 05:05 PM (edited) Maybe not the most creative message, but one that at least a large part of Canadians saw ‘Stronger Together’ breaks Canadian ratings record Roughly one-third of Canadians watched some part of the 90-minute COVID-19 charity special produced by Insight Productions, Bell Media and CBC. https://mediaincanad...ratings-record/ Stronger Together a strong draw especially on CTV, Global & CBC Sunday’s multi-network, multi-platform broadcast of Stronger Together - Tout Ensemble was a tremendous success. Over six million dollars was raised for Food Banks Canada during and right after the broadcast, impressive considering the system kept crashing as viewers tried to tweet in their funds. https://brioux.tv/bl...global-and-cbc/ Edited April 29, 2020 at 05:11 PM by ewh12 1 Quote
fred Posted April 29, 2020 at 10:09 PM Posted April 29, 2020 at 10:09 PM I don't think Céline is obliged to work om her free time. And even though I would love for her to promote her new music (ya I should give that one up 😅) to do so on an occasion as this and in times like these maybe isn't so... tasteful... So I am not so upset about that she didn't participate. But they shouldn't have promoted the event with her when theh showed a previously published message from her.... That was a bit tasteless... Would had been better if she wasn't "present" at all or at least if they recorded a different video for this event... 1 Quote Peace and love to all.

Definitely not the time to do promo. (And doing so could come off just as badly as David Foster's Grammy show-off moment. Just... not the time and place.)BUT, she could have taken the opportunity to do something interesting and memorable. Like, say, the below from Cirque du Soleil. I love how the Athertons made their performance so fitting for the situation - everyone's working from home and trying to keep the kiddos out of their Zoom conference calls, so this was just so perfect!Guaranteed to put a smile on your face (especially the mini one holding his foot at the very end! Journal de Montreal is, of course, just like TVA (who's producing and airing this), owned by Quebecor. And Quebecor is the main sponsor of this thing. So in short, sounds like they're building up to announcing her participation. Or not... lord knows, we've been fooled before! https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2020/04/30/une-chance-quon-sa-les-premiers-invites-du-spectacle-devoiles-1 1 Quote
fred Posted May 1, 2020 at 01:41 AM Posted May 1, 2020 at 01:41 AM Sure sure. She could also use this time to givw us wonderful scaled down interpretions of songs and poste them on her social media (her own work and maybe some covers). But she doesn't cease the opportunity to express something "creative, innovative, diffrent" in her own live concerts when people pay a smaöl fortune to see her so why should she do that on her days off?? Maybe we (who hope for anything but her doing karaoke on her 90ies hits and some random covers) should just rejoice in that we finally had an album (Courage) that actually aimed at being something of some quality, having some effort put into it, not just lagging too far behind the rest of the music world. But to hope for her to do anything slightly simlilar (if it's not fashion or tied into some commercial deal for some brand) in another era such as her concerts or other musical presence is appearently to ask for way too much. For what we've seen for so long now (except for a small deviation in her tours in 2016—2017) it seems she doesn't care at all about anyting like creativity, diversity, expression or hommage to her back cagalouge or long term fans. The way she acts it's hard to see she cares for nothing of that, but priorities quantity in form of ticket sales, only showcasing the "major hits", pleasing non fans, promoting anything but new music and wearing new clothes as much as possible. I personally don't mourn the so called Courage tour being postphoned, coz foe a long time fan as me it kinda sucked. I don't expect anything from her anymor coz it's clear she doesn't wanna use her vocal talent to express and create... So For others like me who once hoped for creative evolvement in music I suggest we put a lot of gratitude towards the Courage album itself, give up all hope of her doing something really new and creative live, and maybe juts maybe hope that we sometime in the future once again will experince another studio recoring such as Courage (which does't just sound like a "this will do"-album." So in short: for us to hope for her to do something creative when it comes to performing (or promoting something creative when the time is right) musically, we only set ourselves up for major disapointment. She doesn't care, doesn't dare or doens't feel free to do so... Definitely not the time to do promo. (And doing so could come off just as badly as David Foster's Grammy show-off moment. Just... not the time and place.)BUT, she could have taken the opportunity to do something interesting and memorable. 3 Quote Peace and love to all.
