Maybe, maybe not. At least she spoke in both English and French. That, to me, is better optics than if she just sang in English.

It seems she was one of the first big names to sign on, before this became the biggest broadcast in Canadian history. But once it did... well I wish Team Celine made more of an effort. She could have at least taken part in the closing song; couldn't have been that hard.

 

But ultimately, I liked how this was more of a down to earth, "homey" show. I liked that they gave as much screen time to the Syrian refugee as they did to Celine and Bieber. That's what Canada is about, and it was reflected in the broadcast.

 

 

I loved how they had a mix of celebrities and local every day heros. They did an amazing job putting the show together.

Imagine if Céline felt comfortable doing stuff like this. But alas, it’s just not her thing, is it.

 

I’ll always love Celine, to me her talent is yet to be touched, not even close.

However, the lack of artistry when it comes to things like this, that she is fully capable of, is sad. I understand she doesn’t want to do it, and that’s fine, that’s her decision... but to me it makes me believe singing is more her job then her love anymore. I think it started out being her love and joy in the beginning and then that slowly changed when she became a mother and now more of her joy is coming from fashion, dance in addition to of course being a mom. It’s great she has more hobbies other than music, but I think maybe she needs a good rest from music, she needs to miss it again.

I’m sure that, given how proud they seemed of Céline’s participation in this, Stronger Together would’ve had no problem giving her just that little more time (at least enough to perform a song in full). But, of course, Céline and her team did not go “The Hard Way” and instead opted for their traditional minimal effort. Really? That’s so funny. I mean, when you consider how many awards she has, it makes sense. Where would you put them? It would be pretentious and extremely tacky to have an “awards room”. She’s not singing for the awards anyway, she singing for the moneee- I mean... the fans.

We were told there would be an appearance. And irregardless of what it was, it was an appearance. There was no mention of an exclusive performance or a promise of her performing. And as for the big group number, I’m glad she didn’t participate, it sounded terrible.

Not every singer that participated sang. Drake, Anne Murray, Buffy Saint Marie also only had speaking part. This wasn't all about performance but it was to encourage and inspire people. It was a show about be health care professionals and to help the foodbank across Canada.

 

Edit: I've not seen one complaint about her appearance other than on this forum. All the friends that watched it, loved the 90 minute show and the messages we had.

To me, it seemed like bad optics to NOT perform. Not because she had to, or whatever else. If she didn’t participate in a song in the U.S. edition of the charity it would be fine for her to not perform. But it’s not a great look for her to sing for her adoptive “home” country, and not her actual home country. Could’ve been a French song, English, whatever but she should’ve took the time for Canada, oh well it is what it is now.

Come on, usually agree with you 99.9% of the time. But you have to admit, ( probably normal after 35 plus years, she’s not as into

It all anymore) and that’s fine, that’s normal. I do think an extended break from music, to really “miss it” would help, instead of being a cash machine... Going from one tour to one Vegas residency, to the next tour to the next Residency, to the next Tour.... etc.

She’ll probably start shopping around for new French songs to record a new album. Then record it, and if the tour continues next spring she may incorporate some of those new songs into her French leg of the European Tour.
