It's actually a really lovely interview that starts of silly, with the usual singing an answer to every question, but suddenly turns really serious and touching and I think it's the only one of the recent interviews where she turns a little teary-eyed talking about Rene and the kids.

I wonder if they had more interviews scheduled after the first few shows in Montreal - for release right about now - that they had to cancel because of the rescheduling. Wouldn't be surprised. I try to translate all the interviews... once again, sorry if my English is not good. (the repetitions are normal, I translated exactly the videos, without erasing anything).

 

C : When we released « Flying on my own », I wanted that people listen to my positive energy, happy, dynamic, strong, and that I was ready for the album, ready for the tour, in a very good shape.

 

C : When I started to receive a lot of songs, from songwriters-composers, WHAOO ! I was so full of joy, surpised and happy. And I told to myself « Wahooo, great ». They had the idea to release a song, « Flying on my own », « Voler de mes propres ailes », I told to myself that it was a great idea because I want the people know that I’m able today to fly on my own. I have some help, from everywhere, I’m not alone even though I played with a cap on me where it was written « the boss », but I don’t do anything by myself, alone. I need to have a lot of people around me to help me realizing my dreams : to go on stage, to prepare the album, etc. But when we released « Flying on my own », I wanted that people listen to my positive energy, happy, dynamic, strong, and that I was ready for the album, ready for the tour, in a very good shape.

 

C : What does this represent for me, Québec ? It’s the basis of all my dreams which haven’t been realized, and those which are not been dreamed and that will take place…

 

I : What does this mean, to be a Quebec? What does this represent ?

 

C : It’s the blood who runs through my veins. They are my roots, my basis, my foundation. When we build a house, when we have a lot of dreams, like the Pisa tower, or as huge as the Eiffel tower for example… Even if the foundation is not good… We have always to start projects, dreams with a foundation. What does this represent for me, Québec ? It’s the basis of all my dreams which haven’t been realized, and those which are not been dreamed and that will take place…

 

Ok ! My first album without René, we’re not gonna cry with all the songs, I’m vey well !

 

And this is my first album in English since a long time, and above all without René. All this bagage behind me gives me energy… I really feel René’s presence. And also that I took my place. I fly on my own and tell to myself « Ok ! My first album without René, we’re not gonna cry with all the songs, I’m vey well ! » To see her man that we love the most in the world who suffered for 3 years… it’s enough ! I will let him go in peace, and now, today, it’s the rest of the rest of my life. It’s the beginning of the rest of my life. So here we go, there is an album and a tour.

 

I : You could have, before, named an album « Courage » (with English accent) like the one who will be released ?

 

C : One more anglicism !!!

C : As there is a word that we could use both in English and French, say it in French at least !!!

 

I : It was to please you….

 

C : Ahah that’s nice !

 

I : So, « Courage » (French accent), 20-25 years ago, could you have, do you think, the hindsight… because it’s a very introspective album… It’s seems like an album which resumes your life…

 

C : Really ? (but “ah bon” is very funny in French, she doubts…). I don’t know, I didn’t see it like that…

 

I : Me, I perceived it like that…

 

C : That’s good, you are allowed to perceive it like that!

 

I : Yes, yes of course!

 

C : Thanks for having listened to it!

 

I : Yes, but it’s my pleasure. It’s me.

 

C : Yes, it’s you, yes yes!!! (here she made a joke, it's really funny)

 

I : It seems that you feel better today… You seem more happy today, right ?

 

C : It’s not that I’m more happy, it’s that I give me the right to be happy ! I give me the right to speak, I give me the right, as a boss (she said « patronne »), as a boss (she said « boss »), another anglicism… The boss! To be able to work with my team, without being afraid of my ideas… Because before that, I sang, and I let everything to René. René was telling me : « Don’t worry, I care about everything ! ». And he always did that. But that never gave me the chance to express myself except for singing. And today, I express myself when I sing, when I talk too much, and when I share with my team some ideas, some good ideas, other less good… And all the bagage I had in the past, maybe that’s what you meant about this album, gives me a strength like a « soldier » (in English), another anglicism. I’m really fine, I’m training, I dance, I love that. I received songs that I wasn’t expecting because I was telling to myself : « people will send me songs to cry. We’re gonna cry the whole album, we’re gonna cry on the tour, we’re gonna cry… It’s gonna be raining with tears. How could they know that I’m fine ? I started to receive a lot of songs, from songwriters-composers, WHAOO ! I was so full of joy, surpised and happy. And then I told to myself : « Wahoo, great ! ».

Quand on a sorti « Flying on my own”, je voulais que les gens entendent mon énergie positive, heureuse, dynamique, forte, et que j’étais prête pour l’album, prête pour la tournée, en pleine forme.

J’ai commencé à recevoir un tas de chansons, avec des auteurs-compositeurs whaou ! J’étais tellement contente, surprise et heureuse. Et je me suis dit « Wahou, super ! ». Ils ont eu l’idée de sortir une chanson « Flying on my own », « Voler de mes propres ailes », je me suis dit c’est une super idée parce que je veux que les gens sachent que je suis capable aujourd’hui de voler de mes propres ailes. Qu’est-ce que ça représente pour moi le Québec ? C’est la base de tous mes rêves qui ont été réalisés et ceux qui vont se réaliser, et ceux qui ne sont même pas encore rêvés et qui vont prendre place.

C’est le sang qui coule dans mes veines. Ce sont mes racines, ma base ma fondation. Quand on bâtit une maison, quand on a beaucoup de rêves, comme la Tour de Pise, ou aussi gigantesque que la Tour Eiffel par exemple. Mais si la fondation n’est pas bonne… Il faut toujours commencer les projets, les rêves avec une base, avec une fondation. Qu’est-ce que ça représente pour moi le Québec ? C’est la base de tous mes rêves qui ont été réalisés et ceux qui vont se réaliser, et ceux qui ne sont même pas encore rêvés et qui vont prendre place.

Ok ! Mon premier album sans René, on va pas pleurer sur toutes les chansons, je vais super bien !

Et puis c’est mon premier album en anglais depuis un bon moment, et surtout sans René. Tout ce bagage derrière moi me donne une énergie je ne sais pas si… Je sens vraiment la présence de René. Et aussi je sens que j’ai pris ma place. De voler de mes propres ailes et de me dire « Ok ! Mon premier album sans René, on va pas pleurer sur toutes les chansons, je vais super bien ! De voir son homme qu’on aime le plus au monde souffrir pendant trois ans, ça suffit ! On va le laisser partir en paix, et maintenant, aujourd’hui c’est le restant du restant de ma vie. C’est le début du restant de ma vie. Alors là, il y a un album et puis une tournée

I : Vous auriez pu intituler un album « Courage » comme celui qui sorti ?

C : Encore un autre anglicisme de votre part !

I : Courage, pardonnez-moi !

C : Vu qu’il y a un mot qui dit les deux, dites-le en français quand même !

I : C’est pour vous faire plaisir !

C : Ahah c’est gentil !

I : Alors « Courage », il y a mettons, je ne sais pas, il y a 20-25 ans, vous auriez pu, pensez-vous, avoir le recul, parce que c’est un album très introspectif, également… On dirait un peu un album-bilan de votre vie.

C : Ah bon ! Je ne sais pas, je n’ai pas vu comme ça.

I : Moi je l’ai perçu comme ça.

C : Ah c’est bien, vous avez le droit !

I : Oui oui bien sûr !

C : Merci de l’avoir écouté !

I : Bah je vous en prie. C’est moi…

C : Oui c’est vous oui…

I : D’abord on vous sent peut-être mieux aujourd’hui.. Vous avez l’air d’être plus heureuse peut-être aujourd’hui, non ?

C : C’est pas que je suis plus heureuse, c’est que je me donne le droit ! Je me donne le droit de parole, je me donne le droit en tant que patronne, boss, un autre anglicisme… La boss ! Pour pouvoir travailler avec mon équipe, et de ne pas avoir peur de mes idées. Parce qu’avant je chantais, puis je laissais tout à René, puis René me disait : « T’inquiète de rien, je m’occupe de tout ». Et il a toujours fait ça. Mais ça m’a jamais donné la chance de m’exprimer autrement que de chanter. Et aujourd’hui, je m’exprime en chantant, en parlant beaucoup trop, et en partageant avec mon équipe des idées, des bonnes, des moins bonnes. Et tout le bagage que j’ai eu dans le passé, c’est peut-être ça que vous entendez sur l’album, qui me donne une force comme un « soldier » - un autre anglicisme. Je me sens super bien, je m’entraîne, je fais de la danse, j’adore ça. J’ai reçu des chansons que je n’attendais pas du tout parce que je me disais « les gens vont m’envoyer des chansons pour pleurer. On va pleurer tout l’album, on va pleurer toute la tournée, on va pleurer… Il ne va pleuvoir que des larmes. Comment ils vont savoir que je vais bien ? Je commençais à recevoir des chansons, un tas de chansons, et les chansons avec des auteurs compositeurs, j’étais… « wahoo ! ». J’étais tellement contente, j’étais tellement surprise et contente et heureuse. Puis je me suis dit « Wahoo, super ».

I think it would be great to open a show with MHWGO. Sure, sure, everyone saves their biggest songs for the encore, but putting MHWGO early in the set list could open up fun possibilities for the rest of the show. I think it'd provide some creative freedom if the whole show didn't have to build to that one song, as has been the case for 20+ years now. Buck the system, Céline!

I mean, his style seems a lot more pretentious than that Chantal lady’s, and you really get the sense that this assignment was a punishment for him (when the only highlight is the open bar paid by Sony).

 

I wonder if he *specifically* is the reason Céline made that joke about not inviting journalists back if they were to write negative things about her? He seems to have a hard time coming up with anything complimentary to say about Céline — but is never exactly impolite either... like he’s riding a fine line in order to dare her.

And her endless digressions are a bit annoying to me too. I'm always waiting minutes to hear her finally answer the question asked.

I know that's the way she is and that it won't change. And she doesn't have to, that's her and that's it. But I can understand people not liking it.

This is the first she specifies getting acting offers. So all those jokes about acting soon have some truth to them. Maybe Deadpool 3 is one

project on the table lol.

 

She says she isn't in a hurry to make a decision but, I hate to say it, she isn't getting younger. She looks amazing right now and I think it's the best time to get her foot in. I'd love to see her start while she still has possibilities to be the protagonist.

I still dream of a Victor/Victoria reboot with her in the lead role. Maybe afterwards a more dramatic role like she would like (The Visit reboot, another role I think she would do great in).
