(And for what it's worth, "heritage artists" release box set / compilation / double+ albums more than anyone else, so I truly don't get the point). 1 Quote

And the reason older artists were brought up is because a brand new double album (not including re releases or other albums with a new one which is what veteran artists do) is simply because veteran artists do not release new albums with 20-40 tracks on it. Scorpion wasnt even marketed as a double album, rather an extended album featuring different genres of RnB. Not to mention that it received luke warm reviews because critics said it was too long, and due to its length lost its cohesion around half way in. Which is more of a risk, the more tracks you add, the bigger chance of lack of cohesion Quote

Well that may be the case. Drake himself called it “an extended album, for the fans” so i took it as that. I feel celines lukewarm reviews were often due to poor association Celines name had back in the day and how she was seen as cheesy and weird and people from rock magazines reviewing Celine dion etc etc. Quote

Dion2000 Posted May 17, 2019 at 06:08 PM Posted May 17, 2019 at 06:08 PM yea buuuut if celine had already recorded 40-50 songs just for THIS new alone, then WHY NOT use most of them instead of letting them ROT on sony musics vault for a billion years?? sorry but to me that makes ZERO financial sense & a complete WASTE of her amazing voice & talent to do that!! & after all, WHY would celine record THAT many songs & yet not use most of them!! & yes many other artists, both young & old, DO release double albums/extended albums, it is not a horrible & impossible thing... & like somebody else, pretty much all/most music is DIGITALLY released & sold nowadays anyway... 😊😊 Prince has THOUSANDS of songs in his vault, as does Michael jackson. Mariah, another writer, has said normally per album there are 20 tracks that just dont fit the cut. It’s extremely common unless youre a brand new artist to have many, many songs which dont make the final product. Its just this time its been said outloud so now everyones freaking out about it Quote

mirage Posted May 17, 2019 at 10:13 PM Posted May 17, 2019 at 10:13 PM The lack of cohesion, they missed that boat with LMBTL already so I don't get why not release 25 songs, even with 15 tracks you skip some because you don't like them . Same for 25. Like some said, these days it's not about the whole album anymore. Songs get streamed separate etc. If she truly recorded maybe 30 songs, she could release 3 EP's with the 'leftovers' for the coming years. Quote

Dion2000 Posted May 18, 2019 at 12:46 AM Posted May 18, 2019 at 12:46 AM wellllll the part about prince, michael jackson, or mariah carey having "1,000s or 100s of songs in a vault" is a bit much EXAGGERATION!! cause yes i do know all artists have a few songs here & there in a vault that does not end up in an album... BUT in the case of prince, MJ, & mariah (& most other artists as well,) they all collectively in their super long music careers have released TONS of albums & songs each in their lifetimes (& mariah is still releasing new music, & had just released a new album earlier this year!!) 😱😱 the thing is, why the frack would celine waste time, $$, resources, studio space, etc... to record 40-50 songs & NOT ADD MOST OF THOSE to her album!! i can see a few songs being thrown into a vault, BUT NOT 30+ songs!! 😔😔😒😒😣😣 cause ok, even if they were going to save the songs to release when **heaven forbid** celine passes away down the road... but that could hopefully still be a REALLY long time from now, cause for all any of us even know, celine could live up to her 70s, 80s, or even 90s!!!!!! (just like her mom & most of her brothers & sisters are all now!!!!!!) so @ that point when she eventually does pass away (& is up there in age,) it would be very silly & financially stupid to then release songs which celine recorded 20, 30, or 40 years ago when she was in her early 50s/late 40s & much younger lol!! 😋😋😨😨 & like a few other people had already said, majority of people buy & stream their music (& movies, books, tv shows, etc...) all DIGITALLY now, through itunes/amazon prime/google play/spotify, etc... very few buy cds & records... sorry but hey that is the cold hard truth!! you keep acting as if this is still "the 1990s" which it is not!! nowadays people will buy & stream TRACK BY TRACK & pick the songs they like best... so why not add the majority of those 40-50 songs to itunes/amazon prime/google play/spotify & let everybidy enjoy them instead of them rotting in some silly vault?? Trust me, 1000s of songs is not an estimate. Celine simply records songs she recieves, take Mariah for example. Shes released 17 albums over the course of 30 years. She’s personally said there are always around 20 tracks that dont make the cut. Simple math of 20 x 17 is 340 songs. But thats an estimate. She said she has over 100 songs from between 1990 and 1996 that tommy mottola wouldnt let her release because they were “too rnb”, so thats 440. Then think of all the songs shes partially recorded or has written that she hasnt got to record. Prince, if we take the 20 per album not included, released over 39 albums in 40 years. Thats AT LEAST 780 songs he has recorded and not released. Not to mention other albums he released as side projects. Again, all the songs he wrote yet never got down to recording. And i dont think you realise, when youre simply recording a song, you can more or less record one song per day. Celines done that before, its not as if shes taking a week per song, not to mention that studio space is not that expensive, certainly not in celines terms anyway. Again, resources, she uses almost all the same people for the same roles: She even has a whole studio for RC at home she can use if she wants to. And id hardly say its 30 songs gone to waste. The main reason they wouldnt get used is that Celine doesnt like them, engineers or producers or writers dont like them, so they mostly end up remaining unfinished or simply deleted as theyre stored as digital files Quote

Singers usually record upwards of 20-30 songs per record, for variety when choosing which songs make the cut. You can’t just listen to demos and put a track list together, because it’s going to sound completely different once the arrangements are tailored to suit the singer, and then recording and production. The final product is going to be completely different. Although, some of the songs will be recorded even by the singer as a trial and they may throw it away after a few tries of singing the song because it just doesn’t suit the record. It’s all trial and error. Singers may love the songs they choose to record, but they just may not be right for the record. Case in point, “That’s Just The Woman In Me” was on standby for 20-something years. And I think it landed right where it belonged. AdrienneM Posted May 19, 2019 at 12:46 PM Posted May 19, 2019 at 12:46 PM yea but for MOST artists they do pick MOST of the songs they record... why celine chose to record 40-50 songs & CAN NOT use them to me is still REALLY DUMB to do... sorry but @ this point this is when celine needs a good manager to step in (like rene did,) & make better decisions by keeping most of the songs (& leaving out a few of the crappy songs lol...) sorry but its just my opinion folks lol... 😳😳😔😔😣😣 Why do artist record 30-50 songs? Because they want to have a huge number of songs which fit the theme, they will then have room to chose which ones fit the theme and fit their vibe. They need a bunch of songs because if they only record 20 songs then they realise that only 8-10 of them fit the theme and vibe theyre screwed. Id actually argue that with rene being as picky as he was, he wouldve had her record the same amount, there are probably at least 20 songs he or Celine have disliked thet have went in the garbage for each album, so it has nothing to do with her needing a manager Quote
