I just had a look at Taylor's Spotify streams - she has 235 songs with more than 100m streams! Celine only has 12. It is INSANE!

 

Also considering how the industry lumps together physical sales and streaming Taylor must have already outsold Celine in their books. I read she sold 115m albums in the US only. She also became the first artist to have all her albums sell more than 10m copies worldwide. This is unprecedented success, obviously the direct result of how the industry turns streams into album equivalent units, a flawed system in my opinion. But it is what is is!

We discussed that many times. Of course people/fans need to stream Celine's music. But the reality is that her fans are middle aged people and not teens. But Mariah, Whitney and Madonna have better streaming numbers than Celine. So the truth is in the middle.

There are several certification rules for streaming in the world. And each country has its own.

 

In EUA,

01 UNIT for free users = 3,000 streams (of 3 thousand different users)

01 UNIT for pay users = 1,500 streams (of a thousand paid users)

It's not like 100 billion streams / 3,000 = 33 million

or

100 billion streams / 1,500 = 66 million

 

You need to know how many paid and free users use the platform.

How many of them listen to the songs, and how many different ones listen to the same album.

And from which country and which rule will be used.

 

Even considering that only paid users listen to Taylor Swift, even with 100 billion streams / 1,500

it would not be enough to surpass Céline.

Taylor has a huge and solid fan base, and her level of success is impressive. However, while looking through streaming record numbers, I noticed that she seems to have more strength in the short term. For instance, she holds the record for the most streams for an album in a single day—over 300 million, almost double that of the second artist—which is insane. At the same time, she doesn’t appear on lists of all-time streaming records, like most-streamed albums or songs, where she loses ground to names like Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and others. Part of me feels like her numbers aren’t entirely organic. But then again, she’s selling out stadiums in just a few seconds everywhere, so how fake could it really be?

 

Celine could never hit those numbers in this day and age, but I agree that her streaming numbers have room to improve. She’s consistently behind her peers (like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and even Madonna) in streaming numbers, and that really shouldn’t be the case.

With the exception of Adele, ballads aren’t as popular anymore, and most people I know want to hear upbeat songs, especially when hanging with friends. We all know Celine has her upbeat songs too, but they (for the most part) either weren’t promoted as much, or weren’t as successful as her ballads. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how big I’m Alive has ended up being through the years, especially since it never even made it onto the Hot 100 when it was released. Of course, this is my viewpoint from the U.S., and it may be different internationally, but that’s why I feel like she may not be as streamed as much as her peers.

I agree! And with her random public appearances and fashion outfits lately, I feel it’s been more exciting to see what she will do next and I think that has made the public more interested. She’s no longer as predictable as when she was just performing in Vegas every night. For instance, if you look at all her YouTube uploads in the past 2 months, they all have over 500,000 views. More quickly accumulating views than she used to. Plus, she’s streaming the best she ever has so far on Spotify. By the end of the month, I expect her to have the most monthly listeners that she has ever had. And maybe her highest artist placement in the world too on Spotify (I think she peaked in the top 200 before). However, yesterday, I believe she gained like 700,000 new listeners in one day!
