Céline Dion Live 2017 (tour) - Official Topic

Apparently the first Birmingham concert (27/07/2017) is NOT sold out yet. I think the ticket factory website crushed yesterday, as it was announced that the concert was sold out. It was the moment I almost got a stroke. Probably too many visitors attempted to get their tickets simultaneously. While I was trying to book a seat, there were around 300.000 people viewing the tickets! It was insane! Anyway, there are few seats left in Block B (525 pounds ), few in Block G and J (around 170 pounds) and few on the upper floor as well. I estimate the capacity to be around 98% now, so there is still chance for people to get a ticket. Whoever interested should better hurry! Edited by LukeD

The sale of tickets for this tour as far as I saw totally sucked and was a horrible experience ! I paid crazy money for a sapphire package and I'm only row g ! I feel like for that money my seats iarr too far back !! I've never paid so much for a Celine concert .....It has been really weird !!!! 😒

Then why did yoy buy it? :hmm:

They need to release this album the day she STARTS the show, not after.

And have more than 3 songs from it performed!

I suppose it depends on how much of the album is ready now, and if it can be finished in time. Depends on how many songs they've accepted (to record),and when the studio times and producers etc are booked for. Sadly we don't know the answers. It would be great if it could be released in time for the tour, but it will sell really well anyway. EUS proved that.

Agree, she has to release the album in April/May the latest. She's going on a two months "vacation" now so maybe she's do the finishing touches of the album (and work on Voice) oh yeah and her new Bugatti line.. so maybe not so much of a vacation.

Another rushed album just to have it ready and on time for a tour? No thank you! I don't want a crap album done in whatever hectic way just to serve the purposes of a tour  It's precisely the opposite, the tour is done to serve and present the new music that has been released many months before! Well at least that's how it works in a normal artist's management, but apparently not for Céline for whom everything is done upside down

As much as I want new music (like all of you), I'd rather have that damn album at the end of this year as it was planned. For the sake of its quality please... :innocent:

Haha my family think that Vegas last year and Taking Chances World Tour 2008 was enough

LOL they are sooo wrong. I have been to Las Vegas 3 times and each time seen her more than once. I mean who is going to make a trip from Europe to Las Vegas and only see 1 show??? The trip to Las Vegas already made me broke, so 2 more tickets aren't gonna make it much worse LOL

Me too, I am very relaxed about a new English album. Very relaxed. I'm still listening to Encore un Soir and will probably be listening to a lot of her french stuff before the show in July.

But I really want her to take her time and give this English album all the time in the world. She's having a momentum right now so her English album has to be really good (not like Loved Me Back To live.. wasn't a huge fan of that one)

That's not true... many many artists go on tour before releasing new material. Beyonce did it once as well. And many others go right after the release of the album which is quite the same thing...

Céline is a veteran act. she doesn't need to have a new album out to go on tour or to rely on the success of the last album to sell tickets...

That's a whole experience.

It's like...I don't know...those rock groups... the rolling Stones, U2 and other legendary live acts.

That's an iconic status that goes beyond any marketing rules...

I mean who on earth as a pop act can sell out 8 UK dates within a few hours without having released anything the last 4 years?

Maybe next time Team Celine should seriously consider at least one of big soccer stadiums? For example one with capacity between 100,000 and 200,000, like Wembley in London or Camp Nou in Barcelona :)

For me, as I'm seeing a French concert for the first time, I'm looking forward to hear all her old French songs and I think that's what many many fans for the english concerts are looking forward to as well :) Except for maybe die hard fans that are looking for new stuff.

I just can't wait to hear her sing, she could sing what ever and I'd still be in heaven!

I think many many reporters, Célines team and ticket sellers are surprised that she's still so popular.. but we always knew ;)

There still appears to be tickets available for the added extra 2 dates in London and extra date in Birmingham, only Manchester so far appears to be a complete sellout. Just a heads up if anyone is still looking to buy tickets for these venues.

If you mean by this that Céline's privileged status as an iconic singer allows her to live eternally on those tours milking and squeezing forever the same songs and hits she achieved in the 90's, well, that's grant. But she can't continue forever that way.

In another world in the same music business there are still singers and artists who work their #ss off putting on a whole new show every time the hit the road on tour, including a new combination of new music (preferably from their most recent release), dancing, choreographies and decorations, and if they include the same old hits, they're usually revamped and revisited.

None of that is of the concern of Céline except singing. Celine just steps on the stage to sing and that's "it". The chances for the fans to see her singing old songs for the first time, that has costed 15 years to see until the last summer tour, where she retrieved new old songs for the very first time in her career. And if she performs her hits (which has happened and happens invariably on every concert she gives since forever), they are barely offered without any change or update. Her concerts are so predictable that she follows every step to the millimeter since the first day.

Also, when a singer releases a new album, normally their wish is to present it and sing as many songs from that album they can on their next live show. There are of course, rare exceptions, also privileged, like Enya, with a stablished and long-standing career but who, surprising as it may seem, she has never toured nor performed a single concert and still she's one of the biggest selling female artists out there. But normally, the final step of recording a new album is to present it live to the public. That's what the live concert is about. However, with Céline we've seen how countless times she has systematically ignored each and every album release she has put out since 2003 (for reasons that I won't bring here but you can imagine what they are). And it's not like the girl hasn't had the chances to perform those songs live -at least once-, for a singer that has celebrated her 1,000 show in a permanent residency since 2003 (how many singers in the world have that glorious, exceptional chance?????)

So yes, she's a legend, she's a veteran act and better for her if she doesn't need any new music to go on tour. But that's no excuse for her not to show any evolution at all nor offering something new every time she does a new show. For every 1 Celine Dion, there are 1,000 other thousand singers who are still touring upon the release of a new album or doing a new tour to support the new material they have to offer, because that's the reason for touring again: presenting the new material to the public. That, unless we're talking about a "greatest hits" tour of course, which is not the case here (different problem is that Céline Dion seems to live eternally on a "greatest hits" tour/Vegas residency since 1997 :ermm: )

So, that Céline has got used to touring without offering something new at all, that doesn't mean it's the normal thing to do. She's the absolute exception on this, as you say, because of her great status and all what she achieved in the past. And here's were the debate about artistry and evolution in her career blows out...

That said, one of the reasons that has finally encouraged me to go to see her live, is the French tour and the setlist she performed last year. That was the first time since I'm a fan that I felt something new was happening in her performing career -which I thought was pretty much stagnated-, when she decided to retrieve and sing all those old songs of her own that never got the chance to be performed on a stage. So I'm hoping and looking forward to seeing the same thing happen for this next tour ^_^ :bye1:

You're so right. Even at a basic level, I love singing karaoke and there is no greater thrill than singing a song you haven't done before and pulling it off... I can only imagine how that would feel if it was my own song, how proud I'd be of showing it off!

You're right about the set list too... I was just saying to my other half the other day, I'm so glad we saw Erasure on their Nightbird tour cos it's my favourite of their albums and they only played songs from it on that tour That's what makes a show extra special! Céline bases every tour on her greatest hits!

You were talking about touring before or after releasing an album... and you deviated on setlists.

As you said, other artists are touring...Céline is not. You can't absolutely compare her situation with other as there's absolutely no one who has been doing what she is since almost 15 years.

Since 2003, she did 1 ww tour and this one supported Taking Chances. And quite well as at the end of the day, TC (with all the concerts ww) was sung live more than any pre-2003 album. You really have a problem with Vegas because The Falling into you tour or LTAL tour didn't support their album more than the TCWT. ..

The rest is a residency. That's quite a unique situation. And if you want to compare, compare it with those who also have one(or had one). Do u really think Elton John, Britney Spears or J.Lo or Carey sing their latest songs or albums? Not at all...

It's not like Céline released 10 albums since 2003... (talking about English albums only).

Of course I agree with some points : One heart or LMBTL have been ignored for instance. Vegas was a choice. You may not like it but you can't say what's normal or not because there hasn't been anyone with such a situation. There's no need to bring up other artists. You only rely on your fantasies and your anger on Vegas.

Of course she could have added more new songs throughout her residency. But she didn't...

There is no after /before in her career in terms of setlist.Beside the D'eux or the Unison tour...

Some exceptions doesn't make a tendency. Whether these supported an album a lot (d'eux, unison) or not at all (one heart, LMBTL )

I wonder if her team or staff knows about the whole ticket situation. If not they might real soon

@isurrender

Well, apparently you seem to defend that if she brings a Vegas part II this next summer, it will be all fine for you. I can respect that. However, many others are expecting something else. That's not a fantasy, that's a reality and a correspondence between the artist and its public, who normally shows some evolution from one tour done 10, 15 years ago and the next one. That's why they're doing a song poll in this forum to tell the management what songs we would like to hear in this tour. Because we have also our expectations and we wish for more changes, which started past year during the last tour :)

Are you really sure there is not a before and an after in her setlists, after the 2016 tour? I think you could revisit that show setlist and compare it to what she's been doing until then. And the reactions of the fans in this forum and in social networks, both amazed and shocked in equal parts to see her sing old songs from albums released in 1998 and 2003 that she had never perfordmed before. That hadn't been done before, and it was about time. Until then, every tour included a bunch of new songs from the last album she was promoting, and then it was the same old hits setlist, but she rarely/never retrieved an old song (she did that with "Elle" in the Olympia concert, that was 1994...)

Call it anger or whatever you like, I assure you it doesn't go as far as that... But the conformism you may have in this respect, it's not shared by others who want to see some evolution in her performing career (and not only in her recording career). Can you respect that? We'll see what Céline and her team have in store for this upcoming tour, but in all respects, let's hope it's not more of the same thing she's been doing for 15+ years :)

You know you cannot please everyone when you are Celine f****** Dion and decide to go on tour and people still *CENSORED* about the countries you will visit. Hopeless.

I think the problem is not the cities and the countries, is the ticket price :giggle:

True. People can be disappointed with the ticket prices or the countries selection. But being disappointed with the choice Celine and/or her team made does not automatically make this choice unfair. I think they are making quite an effort and as a fan I am rather pleased. Edited by LukeD

I don't think it's a good idea to pose tickets that you purchase and put it on social media. I get it your excited but someone could steal your ticket number or whatever it is. But some people do hide or scratch out their information

You are not being a daft. I also just hit quote. I suck at multiquote though.

So yeah you are doing it right but well not sure why it doesn't work for you
