Interview in May with Marie-Claude Barrette in Canada and Stephane Rotenberg in France

This is horrible news that they chose GMA.

They will probably talk to her for about 5 minutes, very edited, they will probably show LOTS of clips from her last interview with GMA before returning in August. It's a shame really, it's going to a lot of old s*** and a few new sentences probably.

I would've took a 2020 interview with Barbra Walters.

The whole purpose of these interviews is to answer difficult personal questions.

Because somehow she/they feel the nees to share.

If celine really is in a pain she would not do this.

I for one am happy that the interview won't be long and detailed. Celine doesn't need to be answering a million personal questions about Rene and how her and her family are doing right now. Maybe in a few years when Celine has had more time to heal over her grief.

At the moment, I just don't feel right about seeing her in pain and having to answer difficult personal questions. I think that GMA is perfectly fitting for the time being.

Seems like Aldo isn't a good deal maker...

Rene would have said, no Julie? No interview!!

Same with Oprah, he would do anything to give both parties what they want.

I just meant that maybe in time Celine will give a more detailed interview. Rene only passed away just under 4 months ago. That isn't alot of time to grieve a loved one. Celine is giving us these interview because she is expected to say something.

Celine can't promote her new albums and say nothing. That would just be strange. I'm sure she doesn't want to go into heavy detail about Rene, but she knows of course that that's part of doing her job.

All I was trying to say is that in a few years maybe we will get a longer interview, but right now she is still in the grieving process.

Oprah wanted to put this on her own channel, they want some people to see this.....so they turned to GMA. And for the french interview, we don't know everything about the situation, and Marie-Claude can do a very good job.

That is not true. I think that Celine is very strong and I did watch the interview with her mom. I think they are both very strong women. Being strong has nothing to do with what I was trying to say.

We all know Celine is strong. People can be as strong and tough as nails, but that doesn't mean they don't grieve like everyone else.

Yeah but they didn't have to go with Oprah or GMA. But they should've gave us a prime time interview. Not at 7am on a weekday morning when the vast majority of the people are at their jobs. This is a huge interview about life. This interview isn't about a new album or the Vegas show, it's about Celine and her life now and it should be conducted in a very serious way. GMA isn't good at serious interviews.

They could've done a prime time interview with Barbra Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric... Or at the very least with Matt Lauer on the Today Show.

am i the only one happy that Julie isn't interviewing Celine? she always wants to show she is Celine's best friend and never asks her good questions. plus i have a grudge on her for cutting the audience out from all of Celine's dvds that she produced.

Atleast we get this new upcoming French interview. :)

It looks like the French interview is going to be more in depth. I think Celine is more comfortable speaking in her native tongue to properly express herself at the moment. As time passes I'm sure we will get a nice lengthy interview in English aswell.

I am just very appreciative of the wonderful translators on this forum who always translate Celine's French interviews for all her English speaking fans. :-D

maybe, it is not the ideal, but Oprah was worse . Maybe they will do something better when the english album is to come out.

Oh I thought that Oprah still get a lot of viewers.

But it's what been said, it should been a prime time interview. Like the french ones.

Not something in between morning talk, jokes, traffic news etc.

They always have 5 minute interviews where they show 4 minute of clips and 1 minute interview :(

I never watch TV so I have to ask... Are you 100% sure that the interview will be short? Have they ever given more time when needed? Edited by LukeD

Le Journal De Montréal confirmed that Céline's US interview will be with GMA, not Oprah!

Damn this sucks......

I think the Celine-Oprah umbilical cord is cut.

And that's not a good thing, Oprah is a big ally of Cèline and one of the most respected journalist ever.

Not really because they have to talk about the weather and then other stories.

Everyone realizes that were not getting this until the 18th right?

That's a shame then. 5 minutes are not enough to capture her emotions, the life change she is going through, her thoughts about the future... Nothing...

It could be longer than 5 but I promise it won't be longer than 10 minutes. And that's probably with old clips.

The Oprah interview would've more than likely been 1 hour long.

Yes and three minutes of that will be how they met when she was 12 and he was 26 years older and how he mortgaged his house and then the rest of the interview will show clips of her singing MHWGO in Vegas while she is talking............ :giggle:

Oprah doesn't have a large audience anymore.

Better 5 minutes on a major network than 30 minutes on a minor network. :-D

Maybe it will be the same format as the previous one they did last time before her return to Vegas with Rene together. Maybe they are planning to show it on Dateline, and then on GMA afterwards. They may want to have a continuity from the last interview when Rene was still here.

I may be wrong, but i don't think viewership for Oprah's OWN is as high as NBC. So they may pick NBC out of that consideration.

While not ideal, this decision must have been all about reach.

ABC is a broadcast network that reaches every US household with basic cable, plus is on OTT platforms like Hulu.

OWN is a struggling premium cable channel with only ~75m subs and declining viewership.

So much as we may be disappointed, seems this was a business decision.

This will air between 7am -9am. Very poor decision in my opinion. If they wouldn't ABC or another major network they could've at least chose a prime time show that will dedicate more than 6 minutes to her segment. Like 20/20 with Barbra Walters for example on ABC. Or 60 minutes on CBS.

Well I'm expecting it to show up on Nightline or something, hopefully it's not just a 5min AM-timeslot thing b/c agree, that's not an appropriate forum.

I so wish she would do CBC's Q - such a great program with substantive, meaningful conversation.
