The first part of this is from Lifetime TV's Intimate Portrait, a documentary about Celine from around 1996 or 1997. It's a lovely documentary, relaxed and truly intimate - one of my favorites. I have it on a VHS tape somewhere . . .

This performance has been disputed for a long time. No one is 100% sure whether it was live or not. It's definitely not the same as the album version, but it's possible that they made a separate playback version using other takes from the recording studio, as her voice sounds very similar. As much as I want it to be live, it does sound 'too perfect', and it is very different to the 100% live version in the original key we have from the Royal Variety performance just a few months earlier.

No, it is not. Celine has not sung TPOL live since Oprah in 1998. And she's very unlikely to suddenly sing it live one night after lipping it for 19 years. The only time that would happen is if the playback fails. This happened during Alone in 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, she was informed via her earpiece and sang the ending live.

I've always believed this to be 100% live. Was blown away when i watched that appearance.

Was disappointed when she was on Talking Telephone Numbers later that year, cos she mimed it. Then at the end of the show Phil said how she was off straight away to do The Royal Variety (where she sang live), so i understood she was saving her voice for Her Maj!

I find it highly unlikely she would make a mix out of the studio material especially for this Lottery performance.. Besides, you can see her breathing for support to do all the big notes, she never does this when she mimes.. Then, there are little flaws in the verses..

Cap the crap: She just had a good day, as she was in her vocal prime, she just decided to sing live along the instrumental track (and did perfectly!!).

lol! I know what you mean, but there's a big difference between being a rock/metal member band and being respectful whatever their job is, and that rude guy who recieved the award on behalf of 50 cent, isn't even famous...poor guy

I truly think that from "Oh yeahhh" (maybe even before), it's lipped. She lips it because it's very hard even for her at that time, especially at this pitch. Her gestures change and the sound changes too.

I'm sorry but the 'Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" is definitely taken from the album. At 2'57, she opens her mouth and nothing comes from it (and no it's not video syncing problem).

The theory is only about when the lip-sync comes in.
