This is how this song should be sung. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJNnkSZJJkk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrL1-I4lT2E The beginning so smooth, pure, melodic. The end, powerful, emotional. Tyler1991 Posted January 21, 2012 at 04:17 AM Posted January 21, 2012 at 04:17 AM I am so GLAD that you just posted that. I have always thought that in terms of vocals, she was at her best in the very two performances you just posted. The World Children's Day performance is absolutely beautiful, but it is overrated a tad bit concerning vocals. Vocally, it's on point, and excellent. However, it wasn't her best. Close, but not her best. The ending wasn't held as long as these two by nearly two seconds. I think people are so taken in by the fact that it's really the only live performance of the song we have in HD, aside from maybe the ACDS DVD? Not only that, but the setting of it is absolutely outstanding, and the orchestra does a fantastic job. There is a lot of bias on this performance, but when looking at the pure vocals, this one is not the best. It's probably 6th or 7th best. Quote
CelineAndRene Posted January 21, 2012 at 04:33 AM Posted January 21, 2012 at 04:33 AM (edited) The sound system at Divas Live '98 was God awful. Maybe that or what they did to the DVD after. The echoes seemed awkward to me. Her voice seemed weak and tired especially from 'you're here' on... Here is the UNICEF performance in MUCH Higher Quality than the one posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1VDxyIRWRQ Edited January 21, 2012 at 04:37 AM by CelineAndRene Quote "...It's the circle of life. Tyler1991 Posted January 24, 2012 at 05:06 AM Posted January 24, 2012 at 05:06 AM No. In the 2007 DVD she uses the first half of the song as an interlude to change constumes. In 2003, she has an actual interlude before the song and thus does not need to use the song as an interlude for a costume change, so she performed it all. Quote

Celine Fan 77 Posted January 24, 2012 at 09:09 AM Posted January 24, 2012 at 09:09 AM (edited) Here's a look at my favorite live performances of the past decade: I'm still amazed how great this performance matched (and maybe even went beyond) the studio version. Probably one of her finest live performances, full of emotion but at the sime time the vocals were perfect. I Drove All Night (The Today Show; 2003)It's a shame we only have two 100% live performances of this song (and what a coincidence, both of them took place at The Today Show). I don't really count the performance at The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2007, it was fine, but nothing special. About this performance from 2003, I have to say it was more than decent, she sang the full song live and I loved the ending, she was full of energy that day. In Some Small Way (The Tonight Show; 2004)Quite an impressive performance to close a horrible year for Celine's vocal technique. I always believed the live performances of this song are way better than the studio version; she seems to enjoy singing it very much and gives her all in the couple of high notes at the end. Overall, she makes a classic out of a boring song. Summertime (The Jerry Lewis Telethon; 2006)She should give us this type of performances more often, it's clear she feels great singing this kind of music live. The orchestra sounded amazing and her voice was getting better as well and recovering from that 2003-2005 crisis, if I may put it that way. Because You Loved Me (The Ellen Degeneres Show; 2007)Just a little bit better for me than the AND DVD performance because she also sang the "you were always there for me..." part, which she didn't do in her first Vegas show. This particular performance is, for my taste, one of her best ones of this song from the promotional tour for Taking Chances and even far better than the performances she did in South Africa, which, don't get me wrong, were spectacular. She sang this one with all her soul and it's quite clear when you watch the video. I don't know if performing it every night in Las Vegas is the best idea, 'cause it might make the song more boring and a routine for Celine rather than making it as emotional as this very first live performance. Even though the vocals are not spectacular, it's just as nice to see that she relates this much to a song and makes this performance so intimate and personal. A Song For You (The Oprah Winfrey Show; 2010)It was really impressive to see that Celine was able to showcase THESE vocals in the middle of her 2009-2011 break. I think the other performance she did that night with The Canadian Tenors wasn't even close to this one in terms of vocals. This live version of ASFY was near perfection for my personal taste; she got her voice into a nasal taste but just the necessary for the song. Very close to the original album version, which I consider unbeatable. Her voice was still very good at the start of 2003. It wasn't soft like it was in 2002, it definitely seemed thinner, but it was still clear. This is why the first verse of TPOL still sounded perfect, no big difference from the 90s, meaning the playback transition was fine. As for I Surrender: in my opinion, Celine was not in top shape on Opening Night in 2003, her voice did seem a bit weak/tired, especially on these high notes. If she was singing I Surrender like that during rehearsals, then I'm sure the whole song would have been playback. Nevertheless, I her technique in this ending verse definitely improved later on in the show. She made better use of mixed/head notes to sing the high parts, and thanks to this the very end of the song became spectacular, with no obvious difference from the playback. As for LCMM, it seems to vary each night! Even in the last year with the new show she has sung things differently. Her voice today is in better shape than all of AND, if she sang it properly now it could easily sound as good as the early 90s. Edited January 24, 2012 at 05:23 PM by Timster Quote

Tyler1991 Posted January 30, 2012 at 04:17 AM Posted January 30, 2012 at 04:17 AM Well, after being extremely frustrated by the entire Jamaica concert, I decided I needed to spend some time looking back and watching my favorite Celine performances. These performances may be my favorite not necessarily because of the vocals, but because it defines what a real performance is. Some of them have imperfections, but it makes the performance all the more enjoyable. Beauty And The Beast & Love Can Move Mountains - Both of these are amazing performances. I love the full arrangement for BATB, the shortened one she is doing in Vegas just doesn't do the song justice. Not to mention that Peabo being there in this performance makes it more enjoyable. As for LCMM, WOW, everyone needs to watch this performance. You'll be shocked at just how amazing she performed it. It's so unlike any performance of the song after 1993. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcCWK3csyH4 The Colour Of My Love - Live with David Foster - I always love when Celine performs at an event with David Foster. It always produces such a great sound, that is distinctly different than what her normal live sound is. This is a beautiful song, Celine's wedding song in fact. It's great to hear her sing it live. And she really does deliver when Foster is there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc7RPz8C-zk Because You Loved Me - Live in Memphis - this is how a BYLM concert performance should be! Look at how excited the fans are when this song starts... it's still like that today! I love that she actually sings the song. This performance does the recording justice! A great performance of this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVK1WHGOc-0 I Finally Found Someone - Oscar Awards - Wow! What a performance. The whole story with this performance is quite something. Celine steps in quite literally last minute to perform the song and literally sings it on stage while reading the lyrics from paper. A great and powerful interpretation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xltLSdsLZE The Prayer - Live in Central Park with Andrea Bocelli - Celine has talked many times about how important duets are, and that once you cross paths with another musician, you are forever intertwined and always connected in a way to that artist. Performing this song without Andrea is just not the same. They have only sung this LIVE together one other time. To have the two of them come together for this 13 years later and perform it live, it was just absolutely beautiful, and of course there is that amazing David Foster sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt8MAFApHWg I'm Alive - Live on Letterman - A great performance of the song. She had fun and enjoyed herself, and still sang the song correctly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wad3uocwoF0 To Love You More - Juno Awards - A beautiful performance live on stage with Taro Hakase. The performance is on par with her studio version of the song, even if in a lower key. It's the only full length performance of the song (aside from cutting the ending runs down which is really an insignificant cut). I also love how she improvised the ending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp4BcTR_uQI River Deep, Mountain High - Las Vegas DVD - This song was so fresh when revived in 2006. The song had a different sound to it. It sounded current almost? Vocally she was on par with the 90's in most parts, and even better in a few parts! I will say I hate how this song has evolved since the tour. It's pretty bad now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxs6C8u9dG4 If I Could - 2004 Jerry Lewis Telethon - I miss the great telethon performances we would get like this one, or the two we have of Quand On N'a que L'amour from 1996 and 1993, or the many we have of Vole, etc. A nice heartfelt performance here and we get a loud chest thump! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01YVw_5czE4 Seduces Me - Rosie - A beautiful television performance of this song. I miss the days of televised performances longer than 3 minutes....the days when we would see a song performed in its entirity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvF6KLd6_1Q My Love - Taking Chances Tour - Celine really delivered here in the performances of this song. She outdid her performance on the record. It's the only song she has been able to do this to achieve that for since probably the Falling Into You tour with Call The Man, IACBTMN, and a few others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBnvIF7TVpc Dance With My Father - Grammy Awards - Celine shows she is a trooper here in performing this emotional song. When her ear monitors fail her, she still manages to deliver. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppLrni6mZXE I Drove All Night- Today Show 2003 - This song is just DYING to be sang live. Her energy in this performance is incredible. The vocals are not perfect, but that is what makes this song perfect. This song sounds so much better live like this then having a robotic playback sound to it. This performance is PERFECT to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzcxK7C_sds Think Twice - Taking Chances Tour - Easily the best part of the entire tour hands down. I know it's not as vocally amazing as her performances from the World Music Awards or the Live for Peace performance, and the arrangement may not be as great as the one she used for the FIY tour, but she still gave this song justice 15 years later in her performances of this song on the tour...performing the full song, live, vocally it was still strong! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBI9MHrnKwQ Because You Loved Me - Regis - Even though this is short, I love that they take the time to experiment with the arrangement and by using the alternative movie version rather than the studio version. This is just absolutely stunning! I'd love to see the song performed like this today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIAlw_MZazc Quand on n'a que l'amour - Live a Paris - Now I may have a strong opinion about covers, but when performed like this, she can do as many covers as she wants. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9lbTub26uI That's The Way It Is - World Children's Day - Although I prefer the vocals from the early show performance, I really love that they gave the song a new touch with the orchestra here. Also, another example of that great sound you hear with David Foster! And full length performance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRb4Z-NCL2E The Power Of Love - Oprah 1997 - A short performance, but very nice and to the point with a powerful chorus and ending (even if the note wasn't sustained long). It was great hearing this with a piano. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQoeTDdg48c The Power Of Love - Live in Brunei - Not the greatest performance vocally, but it is how I envision a concert performance. Celine changes this song quite a bit in many places compared to the usual playback. Particularly from the second chorus to the bridge... She sang the song how she felt it that day. Wasn't the greatest vocally, but I have more respect for this version than nearly any other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUiNDMbSOIY The Power Of Love - Live with David Foster - Also not the greatest vocal performance, but that is forgiven due to 1) that great sound David Foster gives this song with the big orchestra, and 2) this remains the only performance with the full second verse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSN8T3SZVEQ River Deep Mountain High - Live on Letterman - wow! She sang this with such fire, passion, determination.....fierce! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCZpq9HA3kM Can't Help Falling In Love - Vegas - Okay, so I know this comes nowhere close to the 1993 one in terms of vocals! But I still love this performance simply because of its imperfections in the ending note. We all know and understand Celine may not nail the high note every night, but it'd be a shame to miss out on the rest of a great performance because of that one fear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaKfi8JUZbE Where Does My Heart Beat Now - Unison Tour - Damn, this performance sums it all up. Vocally, it was on point. Nailed every note. She interpreted the song, and she changed it to the way she felt like singing it that day. So many differences in this performance. The reprise where she came back on for an encore and sang the bridge acapella to the end was just mindblowing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Jok1CwrVY Fly - Oprah - the emotion in this performance and song is amazing. What a beautiful peformance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZowUxtRcHGg Celine's Dad Dying/What A Wonderful World - this performance is extremely emotional. The fact that she can get on stage and perform....just wow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39HCnw5Yn6w Celine on Larry King about Hurricane Katrina & The Prayer - I loved the emotion she let out here! We never see her this on fire or this compassionate and upset or angry. The performance was beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXD4BGvPngM It's All Coming Back To Me Now - Live in Montreal - This song and performance just has to be included! It's her longest song, so almost never is performed in full. It's great hearing her sing it all. Beautiful performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96LlVM26KP0 Call The Man - Live in Montreal - this song is just epic, and this performance backs it up. Love the sound, love the choir. The ending and the humming is just fantastic.... legendary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoOkW7ZbQ_A I Hate You, Then I Love You - Live with Luciano Pavarotti - The only performance of this song. It's amazing having Celine perform this song with such a legend, even if I don't care for the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http://youtu.be/xixX75qksjc A New Day Has Come - Live in Korea - Great to hear this song again in the remix version. She hadn't sang that second verse in 5 years so she flubbed the lyrics, but it gave her a chance to improvise. A beautiful performance, and she really improvised the end and sang it much differently! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3XJYvysdu0 Immortality - Live in Las Vegas with the Bee Gees - Such an underrated song. I wish this song would get more attention. It truly was a magical moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQdbQfb80Hg Well, I think this is all I got for now! I know there are so many more, but this is what I love about Celine. I love these performances. It just goes to show that you don't need a perfect vocal for a perfect performance. If you give each song the time it requires to do it justice, and just perform it to the best of your ability, then it can be amazing. A lot of these weren't perfect vocals, but the LIVE part of it is what made it a perfect performance. I truly believe there is absolutely no reason why she can't perform The Power Of Love, Because You Loved Me, River Deep Mountain High, Where Does My Heart Beat Now, It's All Coming Back To Me Now, and The Reason as good today as she did in these performances. There is not one reason why people shouldn't leave Vegas and think, damn, she sang it every bit as good here as she did that one time in the 90's..... don't rush through the performance because it's just another song you've done 1000 times. Remember, for most people, it's the first time hearing it! Make it magical. Quote
ashtonelijah Posted January 30, 2012 at 05:41 AM Posted January 30, 2012 at 05:41 AM Stumbled across this on Youtube. Someone has mashed up Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" with Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away." I think the results are quite good actually! See what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpvCILcsYdU I love it! Here's the actual music video they made for it though (using Katy's music video)... It works so well! http://vimeo.com/35492000 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v27/warathogwarts/lovedmebackbanner.jpg
