"Unfinished Song": possible nomination for Oscars?

Recommended Posts

Watching the Oscar tonight... it's great to see Diane Warren...she's written some real gems for Celine and other artists.

Unfinished Songs deserved at least a nomination, maybe the movie version was too weak, (but quite good I really like it) and they should have used the album version from the start or a more orchestral version to feel much more Oscar-like.

Anyway this is an epic song. Diffrent from the other Diane has written and with a new sound for Celine. She should sing it live.

Hope Diane has more song to give to Celine and Sony must believe more in this collaboration... (of course the song must be good and not just a simply pop song).

We'll see...(better say we'll hear).

Funny how our tastes can be different. I find Unfinished Songs very far from being epic and I'd be really surprised if it was even nominated.

I agree... it still sounds like a demo to me. They could have made that song much much better! And someone should have pointed Céline at her pronunciation! :glare:

I like it because her voice in natural and she seems to believe in what she sings. Talking about the album version, with much better production.

i love the song, is pop, maybe something like a rap would improve the song, cause if were Rihana singing it was #1 in more than 20 countries

Yeah, I don't get the hate. It's unconventional, yes. And I do prefer her in a glamorous gown. But this is far from the fashion disaster that they make it out to be.

It's brave, and interesting, and artsy, and sexy and she carries it off very well.

Nobody would have batted an eyelash if Gaga wore something like this. In fact, she'd be praised for it.

I suspect a lot of the backlash is simply because it's Celine, and people expect her to be so middle-of-the-road and boring that this was just a shock!

And for the record, I also loved Bjork's swan dress.

A lot of people criticised it because of the fit. Trousers etc were far too baggy etc. Think it would have looked better if it had been more tailored.

Loose was the look back then though.

Ι love her green outfit but I disagree that she looks young in the first photo (white dress). This hair style is not for her in my opinion, makes her look older.

I agree. The song did not deserve an Academy Award nomination. All Celine songs that were nominated/awarded are pop masterpieces.

OK, I'm resurrecting this topic from the grave because, as we're all waiting for the release of "How Does a Moment Last Forever" from "Beauty & the Beast," I just uncovered a THIRD version of "Unfinished Songs." :spaz: :hmm:

So, we had the movie version from the credits, the "Loved Me Back To Life" version, and now the "For Your Consideration" promo version:

post-5848-0-29013800-1488580068_thumb.jpg

On eBay, I found a copy of the promo CD for the movie "Unfinished Song," thinking I'd be getting the "movie version" that we all ripped from the DVD in high quality, HOWEVER, as soon as the song started, I realized it was different. The promo version doesn't have the piano intro, it has an orchestra. The arrangement is very similar to the movie version, except the piano that was driving the melody and arrangement is missing. The second verse has effects in it that remind me of the "One Heart" album... The very end when she sings "You can write the song and write the story," in the movie version the rest of the instruments cut out and it's just the orchestra, in the promo version, it's just drums and some small effects.

Overall, I was really surprised when I listened to it. It's almost like the movie version was a demo, and this is the fully produced version... there are a number of nuances in it and changes to the arrangement.

Mods, am I allowed to upload and share or will I get in trouble?

OMG please please please share!!!!!

I like that! It's the same but yet different. I love the way the orchestra like has a beat!

I didn't know love until they loved me back to life because somebody loves somebody!

I remember when Diane posted that no one could belt out like Céline after the recording session.

Where was Diane when Céline sang her songs in the 90s?

This song has 2 unimpressive belts... lol

Thank you for posting this. :flowers:

This must be the worst song ever written by Warren. The fact that she was counting on Oscar nomination back then makes me cringe a little.
