I would honestly prepare yourself for a disappointment. There is no way an audience is going to remain seated for an entire concert.

 

Yes they will (well for most of the time at least)... When you look at the Antwerp concerts in the past you will see that the audience in Belgium is quite different compared to for example The Netherlands & France. I don't know how to say this without offending someone but when Belgian people go to a concert they tend to be more respectfull for others (and the artists) then in other countries, so 99% of all people will remain seated when nobody else (= a big group of people, for example the whole venue) is standing. Actually most will even get annoyed when people will stand in an all seating concert. I've had this disussion here allready years ago when the same question/remark came up with the Taking Chances tour and when someone said that the concerts in Antwerp were not so fun because nobody would stand up and dance. This is just the way we, Belgians, behave. Wetter we are from Flanders, Brussels or Wallonia, we all act in the same way and thus tend to be "boring as hell" when we go to an all seating concert. Belgians are people that are quite reserved towards being offending to others and thus we will keep ourselfs on a short leash when attending a concert. Call us grey mice or whatever but that's just the way we are. Does this mean that we don't enjoy it to the fullest? No, but we enjoy it our way. We enjoy almost in silence. And for what a foreigner may have seemed a very boring concert because of no interaction of the audience may be in fact the best concert ever for 90% of the people attending that same concert. However, give us Belgians an open door concert or maybe I should say a festival and all hell breaks loose, think about Tomorrowland, Rock Werchter, Werchter Classic, and many many more... Those concerts have another kind of "rules", you may even say that the music isn't the primary anymore on these concerts, the primary is making fun... A closed (and all-seating) venue concert in Belgium will never win any awards and tend to be a little boring but give us an open space and we'll make the best ones in the entire world.

 

You can see this evolution in the concerts quite easily, decades ago most of the concerts in closed venues in Belgium had a mixed setup with a big standing area in front of the stage but now more and more concerts have got rid of the standing area in front of the stage and replaced then by seats. There are a few exceptions though but the best known example is "The Night of the Proms", a concept (pop/rock meets classics) made famous by copying the so called "Last Night of the Proms" in the UK. It all began more then 20 years ago in Antwerp and was organised by a couple of students, during the years it grow and grow but one thing remained consistend during all the years... In front of the stage was the standing ground where people would enjoy, where students came and wave their flags during the concerts... Until years ago it started to change, the standing ground was tranformed into a seating area on several nights (the Nights of the Proms are performed during a couple of weeks) and slowely but surely they changed it with more seating capacity. Today more then half of the original standing ground is permantly transformed into seating area during these concerts, on some days it remains an all seating concert.

 

I think we, Belgians, actually like to enjoy a concert in a closed venue with a bit of rest, really enjoying the music and the performance not being bothered by people dancing or standing. But then again, we are just boring grey mice Belgians

 

The contrast to other countries is quite significant, go to exact the same concert in Amsterdam, Paris or even London and you'll notice a totally different atmosphere compared to Antwerp...

The 3 concerts she gave in Antwerp last time were not sold out.

But some categories sold out yesterday are not anymore as they are still adding places. They didn't make them all available at once.

 

Actually they were sold out completely at first but a couple of nights before the shows would start there was a change made into the space needed for the stage (If I remember correctly it had something to do with the small side stages), audioarea, etc... which opened up a couple of thousand seats over the 3 days, a lot of these were sold but not everything was sold in the end so they revised the numbers.

totally other topic; on the sportpaleis Antwerpen site is written that you are not allowed to take a photocamera into the venue. Is that really true? During taking chances tour so many photos and film were made by many people, i believe also in Antwerpen a lot.

My next question - what is the best good zoom camera with perfect HD quality and good sound and also compact to take to a concert, as I would love to film the show as well.

 

Standard protocol, I've taken my Nikon D300S multiple of times to the Sportpaleis, just don't wear it visible arround your neck and you are fine. The rule isn't enforced anymore since you can take very good quality pictures with a cell phone these days and thus there isn't need for it to enforce the old rule of taking camera's with you.

From what I remember when I saw her in Manchester, most people were sitting the whole time except for: opening and closing of the show, standing ovations after songs (or during e.g. ABM note), and during up-tempo songs like LCMM & RDMH.

 

I remember when I was in Vegas, everyone stood up when Celine told us to for LCMM, then for RDMH most people sat down again, except for these 2 girls a few rows in front of us who totally blocked our view during that song!

Nope, only at the beginning and the end the people will stand up to show their respect and with some songs they'll stand to give a standing ovation (I can guess they will stand after she sings "Ne me quitter pas") but otherwise most of the public will be respectfully seated.

Personally I'd much rather be on my feet dancing along with Celine singing "I'm Alive" rather than politely sitting in my seat tapping my foot.

I was thinking about posting something similar to this. But yes, in my concert experience, I've seen a lot of people sitting for a midtempo/uptempo song that probably they dislike, and then when a ballad comes up the same people jump to their feet, hug, sway their arms... it all depends on what the song means to you! But I'm with you on what you said about "I'm Alive."

Not only personal opinion but just the way people in different countries are... Some of us (actually most of us in this topic) are living in Europe, Europe is quite a small place yet so many different countries and yet so many different cultures. All those countries are beautiful and have their own story, one may ask how it's possible that people living so closely together can be so different, well I guess it's part of our culture and history. Like said, the way people behave in Belgium is totally different to the way people behave in The Netherlands, France, Germany or even Luxembourg even though Belgium is surrounded by those countries. Even in our own tiny country there are some many differences, the difference between Flemish and Wallonian are quite significant and yet though Flemish may speak the same language as The Netherlands they are so different, even Wallonians, though they speak the same language as our French friends are so different. What we do have in common as Belgians in our tiny country is that Belgians are very modest in all what we do and we rarely take credit for what we achieve even if it's groundbreaking stuff like for example in the medical industry. This makes us maybe a kind of boring grey mice between the Europeans. I don't know how to actually explain it what's the reason for it and I even don't know if their can be a reason formulated for it. It's just our nature... Maybe we don't like to be noticed...

 

Actually just look at Herman Van Rompuy, the EU council president who is a Belgian, he's the perfect example (yet an older one) of who we are. Grey and modest but very capable.

 

When you go to the Céline concert in Antwerp you'll probably notice it that the atmosphere is different to your own country or other countries. Just observe it when you're there

It also depends on which sort of crowd you're sitting with. I'd be very careful about standing up during every song, especially ballads, as you really don't want to ruin the experience for those sitting behind you who have also paid a lot of money to see her. I was in Antwerpen in 2008 and there where only seating places and in my section people where standing with no (visible) irritation. So I do not think that all Belgians agree with your vision. Respect has nothing to do with it for the obvious reasons.

 

I am going to enjoy the concert without being afraid of what other people might think. Which does not mean that i am standing on my chair all evening.

When there are dance songs I want to get up and dance. Especially since Celine always encourages the audience to do so.

 

I was at a Lionel Richie concert once (in the Netherlands) and we were dancing and having a ball.

The people behind us could still see (if they stood up as well) as they were seated a little higher.

Still, they told us to sit down. One of my friends turned around and said:

"Go buy the DVD and you can sit all night long..."

 

When there are dance songs played and the artist encourage you to stand up, I think it shouldn't be an issue if you do stand.

To say you don't want people standing during the concert cause it will annoy you is rather petty. I understand that some songs it makes more sense to be seated but there will always be people who are so excited they feel the need to stand and dance and sing-along during the concert. Yes it can be annoying (when I was in Vegas we had 2 really drunk couples in front of us who were talking loudly, and when the one lady stood up she fell, they all left after that; and behind us we had people from France who complained the entire time that she was speaking English and singing English songs) but to ask someone to sit down who is dancing or enjoying themselves simply cause you don't like that they are is rude, in my opinion. They paid just as much money as you and want to enjoy the show too. However, if they are the only people standing say during a song where the large majority of the audience (and I mean like almost everyone else) is seated and they are blocking your view that is a different situation then I don't see why asking them to sit would be wrong. I hope that made sense I am working and on 2 hours of sleep for the past 3 days. Thank god for Celine's music to get me through my shift at work.

That's because RDMH is a song you keep standing for!!!! Me and some friends from Germany ALWAYS stand up when she sings Rolling In The Deep, LCMM and RDMH! It's just so much more fun, and Celine loves it when you dance with her

I for one don't see anything fun in sitting down at a concert.... Vegas, ok, this is a theatre. But these shows are STADIUM concerts, why waste sitting down, when you can sit down as much as you want in Vegas. Also, I think if you want to sit down, then why not get a seat on the balcony/tribune (or whatever its called).

 

I understand that people would want to sit close to the stage, but aren't those people also fans? I don't understand why they would want to sit down

I think it would be great : a mix of all her french albums without being stuck to one ( "D'eux"). It's not that vocal as well. The "Mash-up" is totally unlikely ( ) but I still have faith that we'll get at least one song from 1F4T.

 

I don't think it's too unrealistic. It has 2 new ideas which isn't that much for a concert.
