GoldenLeaf Posted April 26, 2013 at 09:11 PM Posted April 26, 2013 at 09:11 PM (edited) Really liked the interview, but i didn't like Veronic. Her voice, her "impression" of Celine, pulling faces etc. Sorry, just my opinion. She seems a nice enough person tho.I agree. IMO Veronic's voice doesn't sound at all like Celine's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FEePfMlW5c Edited April 26, 2013 at 09:11 PM by GoldenLeaf 1 Quote

divaslive98 Posted April 27, 2013 at 12:21 AM Posted April 27, 2013 at 12:21 AM I really loved Celine's personality in this interview, she really showed us the "inner diva" that she often doesn't reveal in English interviews ... one thing I hated about it, though: when Celine said that she "doesn't have time" for the "vision" part of her career. Like, seriously? You're CELINE DION, your entire career is built around your own unique personal identity ... it is INCUMBENT upon you to take responsibility for your own creative vision; it does not require business experience to do this. Take some time out fro your day to listen to think about where you want to go as an artist; take some INITIATIVE in seeking out songwriters and producers YOU want to work with. it is not enough to tell Rene "I LOVE ADELE" and then expect to create something on that same level. YOU need to take responsibility for your artistry. At this point, it feels like her entire career is a tribute to Rene and it is killing me. She should not have to wait until Rene is dead to record music she is truly passionate about. 1 Quote

She should not have to wait until Rene is dead to record music she is truly passionate about. Interesting . .it's one way to look at it. I think she is truly passionate about many of her songs, and I think she was exaggerating when she said she has no time for vision . . she was quite involved in the planning of her current Vegas show, as we can see in the 3 boys and a new show documentary. But Celine has always been very, very open to the direction of others, and I think it's part of her trusting nature and humble personality. And I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, if it's a producer or director who really knows what he/she is doing and can create a spectacular vision. Look at her relationships with David Foster or Jean-Jacques Goldman -- both songwriting/producing geniuses who had definite visions of how they wanted Celine to sound -- Celine trusted them, listened and responded with what they wanted, and the results were spectacular. Does this mean she doesn't passionately feel the songs on D'Eux, because she worked with JJG on "dechanter"? Of course not! Part of the genius of the songwriter or producer is choosing the song that is right for the artist. We don't expect each actor or actress in a movie to have a vision for the movie -- that's the job of the director, and the actors do *their* job, under direction. I don't think being a singer is that different. And it's the manager's *job* to build a team around the singer, including producers and songwriters. And Rene is really, really good at that job -- and he knows Celine better than anyone, and can execute what she's looking for. I think their partnership is magical. 4 Quote
Xpresso Posted April 27, 2013 at 04:26 AM Posted April 27, 2013 at 04:26 AM Céline always downplays her role in the decisions they make. On one hand, it's clear that they used their influence in Vegas and I don't think that's fair because Veronic didn't do it on her own ( I mean the woman is unknown and she's gonna have her own show in Vegas? come on'...) But on the other hand, thank God, she will be far away from Europe. As I can't stand her ( I think she is pretty bad... but well ) , we won't see her over here ! haha Quote

It also reassured me a little that there still may be some sort of music career as well. I've been convinced for a while that after he has died, she will be completely lost (personally and in the music business). He is all she knows--he made her what she is. It just sounded like she is getting prepared for when he does go. In past interviews, she would completely shut it down, saying "I can't even think about it." Now, as they both get older, she seems to be taking on a more realistic, beautiful perspective of life and death. Side note: I think rc should be her manager in about 10 years! 2 Quote

I agree with aafass - the long contract in Vegas is probably René's way of making sure Céline's doesn't stop singing after he goes... I don't think it's really for the money. René surely knows that Céline would just stop everything... and this is probably his way of getting Céline to keep performing and keep her balance (professionally and mentally). 3 Quote

Popular Post smw Posted April 27, 2013 at 04:50 PM Popular Post Posted April 27, 2013 at 04:50 PM It's confusing and distressing to think about Rene's passing. On the one hand, it seems completely disrespectful for us to even think about it as outsiders. On the other hand, it makes sense for her biggest fans to be concerned for Celine's well-being when the time does come. I'm sure they are both preparing now that he's getting older -- and I'm sure preparing Rene Charles has made them talk more about the future. I know I speak for a lot of us when I say that we are more concerned about Celine's personal well-being than her career. If she makes the decision to stay at home and never sing again post-Rene, I would be completely supportive. She's given us so much. I'm sure staying in Las Vegas over these next few years offers stability on all sorts of levels -- they can continue planning the future of Celine's career. It's not even about just the Vegas show. (That's the entity that brings in money, that's her "day" job, that's her connection to the fans, etc.) But remaining in Vegas allows them to be a family and to plot out some next steps: in Celine's personal and professional life. Celine's situation is unique. She is married to a much older person. And the years keep passing by. Las Vegas makes more sense now than it ever has. We, as fans, often think of her career before we think of her professional life. But I think remaining planted in Vegas -- while doing some outside performances and projects -- is a wise move for their sanity and well-being. (I do hope that they've got at least one more world tour in the works as a team. But that's my hardcore fan speaking…) Lastly, once Rene does pass (I know this is not the most uplifting conversation) -- there will be an outpouring of support for Celine. Just think of all of the artists she's worked with over the years. All of the people she's employed. Not to mention the tremendous support from her fan base who I know will send her a message of we're a fan of Celine, the woman (wife, mother, daughter) -- not just Celine, the singer. Most importantly, she'll have her huge family and her sons, who will always represent Rene. I'm sure Vegas will embrace Celine as long as she wants to be there -- with or without Rene. And who knows if post-Rene Celine will continue touring, continue on in Vegas, or head back to Canada to be with family. But we'll be here for her…….. Okay -- enough of that. So many wonderful things coming our way as Celine fans this year! I think this Katie Couric interview just reminded us why we will remain Celine fans even if she never releases new material again. She's an icon with a golden heart. 11 Quote

chocolatechip15 Posted April 28, 2013 at 12:11 AM Posted April 28, 2013 at 12:11 AM (edited) I agree with you, and it's definitely true that over the past decade, Celine has slowly taken more and more responsibility for the creative direction of her career. I just wish Celine would be more confident in her creativity and talent when she talks about her career - it's the discourse, and not the reality it refers to, that bothers me. Celine always adopts this rather demure attitude towards her career in interviews, and ends up coming across as a passive instrument of a decidedly male creative master: Rene. Your post is so interesting and thoughtful . .I agree with you that Celine is a strong woman who makes her own decisions about what she wants her life to be -- but I've never seen her as a feminist icon. In fact, I've often thought that part of her appeal is that she represents a somewhat anti-feminist fantasy -- the utter devotion to one man who loves and protects her; the glorification of motherhood as the ultimate fulfillment and happiness -- and even the way she is *always* sweet and pleasant . . . she can be this way *because* she has a team of people, led by Rene, who says "no" for her, advocates for her, and takes care of anything "unpleasant" (like firing people, which must surely happen when you run a business that size). This leaves Celine free to be always sweet and smiling and welcoming. Edited April 28, 2013 at 12:12 AM by chocolatechip15 1 Quote
Hilda Posted April 28, 2013 at 12:20 AM Posted April 28, 2013 at 12:20 AM brilliant interview! "im such a pusher" hands down best part for me! i laughed out loud haha - her face! otherwise it really was covering old ground. and was rene trying to say shes only sold 20 million albums world wide instead of over 200?? haha. The whole veronic thing i find very bizarre...they've signed her? but shes a singing impersonator? i didnt really rate her whitney and even through it she looked like she was doing celine's mannerisms....and when she did celine unfortunately it was very accurate but i was angry because she was doing celine at her worst like when shes really nasal - which she isnt always and historically hasnt been but is a bad habit thats hasnt been kept in check recently, and i was sad that that was mostly what came across in the performance and thats not how i would want people to think of celines voice.
