DionFanAlways Posted November 23, 2012 at 12:49 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 12:49 PM I thought she sounded just fine. River Deep Mountain High was definitely live. You could easily tell. She looked beautiful, especially her red carepet dress. I dont know why people could find fault with either of these performances....what the hell do you want her to sing? "Dreamin' of you" from falling into you? Make you happy? A new english song from an album that's not even out? She did a great song that's signature in Vegas and for her to start running around the damn stage with it would look foolish. Can't please everyone I guess. Please don't get me wrong I loved her performances. I guess I just want something...different?I see your point also. I mean what could she have done. It has been a while since shes had anything out other than Vegas. It makes me happy that she is still relevant to receive an award! Quote I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.
donpi86 Posted November 23, 2012 at 12:54 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 12:54 PM And once again, here we have Céline Dion, the best singer in the world... when it comes to COVERS I won't hide my disappointment. Two songs, and both of them are covers. Again. For the umpteenth time. She has a brand new album after 5 years, its the first time she goes to Germany in 4 years, and yet she comes to perform... RDMH? Ne me quitte pas? I don't understand anything about what the hell they're doing with her career. I don't care if it was playback, I don't care if she looked beautiful. But I DO care what she sings, especially when she has just released a new album. Its been another wasted chance to get the audience know how wide her repertoire it is. But again, they just realized she came from the other corner of the world to still keep performing an english song she was singing 5 years ago in Las Vegas and a world tour, for 7 years. Genau! Wundervoll! What's new here, Céline? I feel hopeless about her international career. Always with this "cover" issue... For me she can perform RDMH as long as she wants and all the times she wants because probably is one of her best songs and performances. Perfect to open a show like this, full of energy and never sounds outdated.. What do you expect her... to sing "incognito" as it sounded in 80's???? or maybe Not living without loving you??? If I'am interested in Celine dion for my show, I want her to sing what people liked the most from her recent era, and RDMH is and outstanding performance in every show she does. And what's wrong with NMQP???? It's an honour that we can listen to this wonderful song in Celine's voice, only the greastest have sung this song...What I will never understand is that all of you assume this kind os stupid thing of lippin for no reason... If you are going to sing NMQP, you have to sing it! feel it! to mimic... go to a circus.. it's disrespectful to fake this song to the audience... Quote

Javito Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:12 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:12 PM (edited) Each of us have our own preferences. You have a problem with the lipping thing, but not with covers. I have a problem with seeing how she is wasting her voice and talent since years singing always the same songs, but have 0 problems with seeing her lipping Do you really think RDMH was the best song to sing for an audience like this? Some here said that the audience was dead and dull. What did you expect, all of them sitting and dining around a table, with formal dressing? That they just suddenly stand up and dance like crazy? Maybe a ballad would have been better. Maybe "The Greatest Reward" (since she was receiving an award), or if we're talking about a hot opening song to warm up the audience, where have been left her own songs like "Misled" for example? That would have been a great one to perform in this awards, and its been AGES since she doesn't sing it. Even "A New Day Has Come" (radio remix) or "Right In Front Of You" would have been something fresh to meet the german audience for the first time in 4 years, and to me, these songs don't have nothing to envy to RDMH. Fran Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:20 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:20 PM She sang RDMH because they wanted to show a song from Las Vegas (pay attention to the introduction), and the other song from the french album. She was perfect in all senses . The audience was so bored lol Quote

PuraVida Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:40 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 01:40 PM (edited) I'm not wanting to sound culturally ignorant, but it is a stereotype of Germans that they are quite withheld and "cold". Anyway, she actually sounded amazing (all things considered) on RDMH! Yes, the song choice sucked again but what can we expect. She is promoting the album in France the same week, so she obviously will be performing songs from the album. Remember how THRILLED we were with the TVA special and all of the live new songs? So...the management does know what it's doing, but then again they pull the same songs out each time. Seriously, RDMH is not her song...it's a great song, but for how much Celine sings it, you would think it was legendary! Obviously, she has tried to force that song (and other songs) into some legendary status by performing them over and over and over. It's kind of annoying because of the songs themselves, but also because it's not new and it takes away space from her singing lesser known or newer songs. The "logic" behind it all is...she was the biggest act of the night. She was performing two songs...so, naturally one song uptempo & one song downtempo. She wanted to have an uptempo song that has wow-factor vocally...and her go to song for that is RDMH (thank the stars she didn't choose LCMM). Edited November 23, 2012 at 01:41 PM by PuraVida 1 Quote

Misled, seriously??? only if they updated it with new arrangements cause.. wow... that would sound very strange in 2012.... I think, and maybe I'am mistaken... but no famous artist from the 90's sings that songs, cause, as a very strange thing, they sound extremely outdated.. you can hear wonderful versions of 50's , 60's , 70's... but 90's.. no..... even a pop song from 2001 like Right in front of You sounds so outdated in 2012... I still prefer RDMH, it is a classic, an untemporary song! Quote

No but seriously, I'm sure the non-Céline fans in Germany don't even know she oftens sings RDMH or Ne me quitte pas. Obviously they wanted to promote Vegas more than anything else (and the award WAS for Entertainment - in Vegas). And Céline probably had enough songs to rehearse for her upcoming TV shows in France where she will also sing some duets. So she has to learn those new songs too... 2 Quote

Just to clear it up for you that was 16 years ago. I'm not sure how far you back you count as "recent." Of course I know this song was recorded that year... The point it's that, like some has said... it's one of the most relevant performances since 2007 A new Day... DVD released and the Taking Chances world tour..., and THAT is her most recent era... and when RDMH has been more stunning... And whatever.. I think it's a good choice, it's not a Celine Dion concert or tour.. it's just an awards show... and like someone said before.. this choice makes sense... They are rewarding the Vegas thing... Quote
Shaun Posted November 23, 2012 at 04:04 PM Posted November 23, 2012 at 04:04 PM Make up your mind. Is it a recent song you want or a song from a recent era? Both of those statements mean the same thing to me! And if you are honestly saying the the most "relevant" performance Celine can do these days is a cover song written in 1966 that she recorded in 1996 then we are in a lot of trouble. Incidentally River Deep Mountain High was a "stunning" performance on "Live In Memphis", which was recorded in 1997 as well as being part of the "Taking Chances" tour and Vegas. 1 Quote Bringing you the world's only Celine Dion podcast show since 2014.Find us on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Amazon Music.

I think those two songs were only chosen because they are both in her current Vegas show , so she does not need to do a lot to rehearse them, It is very easy for her.Right in front of me, that would have been a interesting choice! Or Ain't gonna look the other way! I don't want to be this negative but yes and I don't want to go off topic.. sorry ... this is not what I want, believe me, I am the very first that it's so tired of My Heart Will Go On, BUT, yes... she is going to be remembered like one of the best 90's DIVAS and the Titanic singer and the most selling female bla bla bla. For me, I would manage her to be remembered as last best female crooner (mostly of crooners has passed to history because of covers) as Etta James, Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Norah Jones or Diana Krall, or Melody Gardot, .. I don't mind how much she sells or how succesful she is... what I want it's QUALITY, and if they don't know how to pick good original songs, go to the classic covers.. it's going to be much better... Right in front of you it's a very cheap song, it sounds like made by a machine... since ANDHC, most of her "original" songs are so cheap... Reading in this forum I'm becoming to understand that I'm not a real fan... excuse me if I offense somebody... But when I put Celine in my playlist, I always look for all that classy and blues and jazzy songs I can find, most of them covers or french songs. Nature Boy, At Last, TFTISYF, When I Need you, RDMH, Bewitched, NMQP, I've Got the world on a string, fever, I Knew I Loved You, If I Rule the World... and originals I guess (Seduces Me, The Reason, Why oh Why, A song for you and french songs...) I truly looove her voice and her presence in the stage, but only when she sings what I consider good songs... Something it's wrong when I consider that A Song For You it's the real gem of TC album and all of you consider it is a boring song... well... A matter of tastes... I guess... Quote
