Do you remember the song?

I think for me it was My Heart Will Go On. It was played so often on every radio station and I loved it. I wanted to know who is singing it and began my research about Celine. So I went to a local record store and bought The Colour Of My Love album. Just because it was the only Celine record on sale at the time. After listening to Think Twice I knew that I had just discovered for myself an artist that I love very much.

1984 D'amour et D'amitié

Wow! I think that's REALLY cool! I mean, I was BORN in 1984 so there was no way I would have known her at that point. Even if I WAS old enough to have known about that song at that time, I'm from the U.S. and unfortunately, playing songs from an artist who doesn't speak or sing in English, was and still is completely unheard of here.

Anyway, I have a question for you bertrand. Seeing as you've been listening to her since basically the beginning with the exception of a few years.....did you know she would become this huge ultra-megastar that she is today? What was it like hearing Incognito, her first Sony, and pop album? What was it like hearing Unison, her first English album? What was it like when she finally became a household name around the world? Was it fascinating to watch her career evolve into something that will forever be legendary? Cuz I mean, when you started listening to her....she certainly didn't have the kind of career she has now. Did you enjoy the change in the style of music? Did you appreciate the English songs as well?

So yeah....what has it been like watching her career from what it was then, to what it is now, and everything in between? Did you always know she would eventually record in English and become an international superstar and living legend? Sorry to ask so many questions, but not many people have the unique experience like this that you do, and I'm completely fascinated.

Here is how I find out about our Quebec national treasure Celine

In the fall of 1984, as I was sitting in the first row of the school bus to go to school, THIS SONG (d'amour et d'amitié) played on the radio and there was something special in the voice. Then, I asked to buy the album of this singer for Christmas. I still have the album (caseette)

In Quebec, we new that Celine has all the strength and qualities to make it at the international level. It was just of matter of time. Celine an enormous amount of love and support from Quebecers,. We are still very proud of her.

I couldn't agree more with you. It's very true! :)

Merci Céline pour ces deux soirées inoubliables que j'ai passées à tes côtés. Je ne les oublierais jamais.

J't'adore Céline.

Merci.

I also quickly bought "Live A Paris" and the bonus track on that CD just happened to be "To Love You More". I was in heaven listening to it and it drove me to quickly buy up all the albums I could find.

Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi

I loved Celine's voice right there when I first heard her sing it that night at Eurovision. If the Netherlands wasn't going to win, I was hoping Celine would be the winner of Eurovision in 1988. And I was so happy, when she won with only 1 point from the UK (which I didn't like that year).

Where Does My Heart Beat Now

Was a hit in early 1991 in the Netherlands and I recorded it from the radio. Loved it.

Beauty and the Beast

This is the song that finally made me decide to buy a whole Celine album: 'celine dion'. I loved it so much, I started to buy Unison and her French albums.

Only One Road

I remember seeing the music video, but didn't catch the performer's name. I searched for weeks and then found out it was Celine. The rest is history :in_love:

"Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi" way back in 1988. Until 1992 I've listened to that song over a million times! Because of the local circumstances here in Austria there were no other songs of her available. The "Celine Dion"-album came like a dream to me. My favorite track at that time was "Water from the moon" ... and the rest is "history"! I will love her til I die!!!

Destin. I remember when I found the D'eux CD on my father's disc-shelf. I loved the sound of her voice at the beginning of the song. Y'a pas de voiles aux volets de mes frères, y'a pas d'opale autour de mes doigts, ni cathédrale où cacher mes prières, juste un peu d'or autour de ma voix... Edited by zenmeban

My Heart Will Go On I was 7 and I remember every time the song was on TV, no one dared to steal the remote control out of my hand! my mom got me the cassette of the Titanic soundtrack, we's listen for hours while driving to school and back, and we used to forward all the instrumentals way to the last song, then there'd be silence in the car.. I am so happy I still have that cassette.. but if I want to be also accurate I'd have to say it was "Goodbye's the Saddest Word" my English teacher played it for us in 8th grade and had a paper with missing lyrics to fill- she was a big Celine fan and I have been hooked on ever since (well way before if you count 7 years aware of music enough).

LOL Funny thing actually, I really hated celine. When I was young, my mom left me alone at home at night, it was the first night i was alone in the house my life, I was 6 or 7, don't rememeber... And I got really scared. So I decided to play music, and the cd was falling into you, but, the begining of IACBTMN, scared me even more. So I really hated celine. Until... One day I was travelling with my dad, propably at age of 8, and he put live a paris on the car. Destin played, and, i cound't stop repeating it. The entire trip was with destin. So, the song that grab mw was Destin. it is still my favorite song of her.

(sorry for my english)

Mine was "Think Twice" but, I never bought The Colour of My Love until 2010 lol.

I think it was the world music awards in 1995 and i remember seeing something about Sheryl Crow (who was my favorite singer at the time) performing. Well, we had to go someplace that night and my mom recorded the show for me. This was the first time i can remember knowing who Celine Dion is.

I wasn't a fan of anyone before my best friend made me listen to the ANDHC cd, especially I'm Alive and the greatest reward (here in France we all knew the French version of this song). I remember it was in a bus during a school trip, late March or beginning April 2002.

Luckily I still had some money I received for my birthday, so a few days later I hurried to the mall and bought ANDHC and SSDA together. I remember my mum asking me "are you sure of this ?" :-D

Think Twice and then I bought the colour of my love on cassette and wore it out  I fell in love with all the songs on that album especially Love Doesn't Ask Why....Then I discovered alot of Celine Dion import albums in HMV music store and felt like Christmas, I couldn't get enough....I was not gifted at school at anything at all but because of Celine's french work and me continually checking in translations books I became really good at French during the last year of Middle school, I remmber getting high scores in tests we'd do for french and felt so happy to see 20/20 marks on test papers as I'd never had that before :) I was actually badly bullied at school at various points too and French was one of the only lessons that I was braver to show my worth or where I felt incouraged and safe. I remember the very first time I fell in love with that voice. I was a kid back in 1996 and was watching (or made match lol) the ceremony of the Olympics. I was kind of bored (I hated sports at that time so watching a program dedicated to all the major sports one could practice was tough lol) and then she stepped to the stage to sing The Power of the Dream. I was just blown away. I remember spending the night right after the performance daydreaming in my backyard that I was singing in front of that same audience and slaying just like her lol. Good times

Think Twice...late 1994. I remember willing it on to get to #1 as it was in the UK charts for months before it hit #1. Celinemania in the UK over TT and TCOML in early 1995 was comparable to Adelemania now. (anyone got a time machine?)

Lol mine is exactly like yours! I remember going into town, to Our Price, at lunchtime to buy TCOML. My mate thought I should just get TT single, because I didn't know any other song by her. But nope, took a risk. Played it when I got home from school and loved every song. Was surprised to find TPOL, always loved it and had Jennifer Rush original on vinyl, and most people know WILL. And it's still my favourite english album ❤💕💖

My first time hearing her voice was when I watched Titanic I couldn't get that song out of my head( I didn't now the name of the song back then I was to young). After that I told my mom if I could buy the titanic soundtrack and she said yes after that one day me and my mom were taking a road trip so I decided to bring the titanic soundtrack. And my mom was wondering why I skipped to my heart will go on so much and I said that voice is breathtaking and my mom was like it's just an ordinary singer singing a song and I gave a look like that is not an ordinary voice that voice is from the heavens above. And then after the trip I was like I need to know who that singer is and then one day I was watching something on VH1 suddenly I heard it again that song and i tell my mom if she can turn up the volume on the t.v and I ask my mom who is that singing and she's like 'oh it's Celine dion'. After my mom told me who that was i go upstairs and do a little research I was surprise that she could speak French and some other stuff. Then one day at a book/music store I spot her albums in a rack and I'm like there she is(album) waiting for me to buy one of her albums(LoL). Then I tell my mom if I could get one of her albums and she's like maybe for your birthday and I'm like but it's 5 weeks away that's to long to Wait( my mom said no). Then on my birthday I finally get her albums( Falling into you,My love,D'elles etc) I wasn't a big big fan till 2008( I was kind of sad because I didn't know she was performing in las Vegas in 2007 and I didn't get a chance to see her in Vegas or her taking chances world tour). After that I was like great I miss my chances on seeing my idol but one day in 2010 when she was on Oprah when she Said she was coming back to las vegas I was so happy I told my mom if we could see her in las Vegas and she was like wait a couple more years and I was like this is CELINE DION we are talking about not Mariah Carey we need to see her show. Finally in October my mom surprised me with Celine dion tickets for my birthday( I was beyond excited) are show was on November 13 best concert ever( it was the first concert I've ever been to). I told my mom that she's performing in Canada next summer and that I can go and she said yes then I told some of the songs are going to be in French and she's oh we can't go and I was like why you said yes a few seconds ago. My mom was ''because I don't want to go to a concert where she sings in French all through the show'' and I was like mom we have to go people(celine dion fans)say that you have to at least see one of her concerts in French people say it's beyond amazing. I'm sad that I don't have any Celine dion friends that I can talk about this stuff because my friends and family members don't like her. I really was looking forward to seeing her again.

For me, it was at her first French TV. She was singing "D'amour et d'amitié". Her voice impressed me. Such a young girl with already a such powerful voice, we had nearly the same age.

If I have to choose THE song that brought me to Céline it would be "Ne partez pas sans moi". I remember watching Eurovision as a kid (I was just 6 and half) and I was impressed by her voice and performance. The song stayed in my head many years later and I wanted to find it. I even requested it on a local radio station. Without success. The song wasn't such a big success after Eurovison as some other winners, so it wasn't easy to find it. And more it was difficult to get it, more I was obsessed to hear it again. There was something in that voice.

Around 1995 there was a pub on tv in my country that used the song "The Power of Love" as soundtrack. The voice immediately reminded me of the singer who won Eurovision in 1988. Then I discovered it's actually the same singer and I was surprised how my ear, memories and instincts were right. I went to the record store to ask for "The Power of Love", but they only had album "D'eux". As I was starting to learn French at the time, I decided to take a chance and buy it. So "Ne partez pas sans moi" is the song that brought me to Céline and "D'eux" made me a fan.

Lol NPPSM Eurovision time I hated celine! I mean, one point 😢thankfully by TT time '94 I had completely forgotten about it. And when I realised a few years later, I was glad she won. The song was better than ours imo! 😆

The song that got me into Celine was ANDHC. She was just so timeless and classic I thought. She did the song with ease and the break really did do wonders for her voice. She was amazing and I think that's why I love her so much, becuase of that first song!

For me it was WDMHBN. I always loved that song when it came out, but I never knew who sang it for a while. When BATB, water from the moon and Nothing broken but my heart came out I was like I love these songs, then realized that it was Celine singing them all. I always bought all of her albums and was a fan but mega fandom

kicked in after I saw her in Vegas 2011. Could not believe how incredible she sounded in person.

It's good to know that Celine helped you with French.

It was the same for me with English.
