What if we presented an album concept to Celine?

When you mention that song (This Time) it reminds me of what Céline said about it and how she felt that it was a difficult song to sing, due to the words and meaning behind it. The power of a song is when you can truly feel it and while Céline sang the song beautifully and felt so much compassion for those in that situation, Céline didn't want to sing it. It made her cry to think of those people while she sang.

I think that song writers should of course send on their songs to Céline, but that we should also respect her wishes to sing anything she considers good enough as it always is!!!

I agree. I know what she thought about 'This Time' at first and how difficult it was for her. I gave it just as an example of a non-love song because. I agree she shouldn't be forced to sing a song that she doesn't want to.

This is a great idea! :) the songs would have to be carefully written to how Celine's career is right now and how much more it can grow with a different sound like with the CD Taking Chances

I think there should definitely be a mixture in the types of songs that we contribute and I don't think we should count out ballads because obviously that is what Celine is most noted for. She doesn't have very many "public announcement/message" songs (what I sometimes call them) like "This Time" or "Skies of LA" that I know of. Correct me if I am wrong. Perhaps it is something that can be researched further. If you have any other ideas, please don't hesitate to share.

Considering there have been no responses, I'm going to assume this is yet another "great idea" left to not see the light of day. I guess the momentum was good while it lasted. I will continue writing and and will pray that one day you'll hear my melodic words through the voice of one of the greatest singers of all time:)

Enthusiasm is not gone  It is still in progress.... :)

How would you like to contribute to this project?

I'm still in it. How do we proceed? I would love to hear my words through our Celine's voice. Not sure how to do this though but I have two songs, like I said, that I could see her doing that I have written and probably more if i look through my stuff hard enough. Been off the discussions part of here for a while because of too many heated fights and haters dyssing her constatnyl, not at all what i thought this palce would be, but I am still here and still behind you!

Well, even if they don't listen, I think creating an album of songs written by fans and dedicated to her would be good. Then we could publicize it in a way we know she would hear about it  :) . It would definitely be a challenge, but I think it can be done. There are a lot of talented people here on the forum

Guys, when I have ideas about things, they are usually pretty big. I don't know how to think small. My gift is coming up with the ideas, researching, and writing (a lot of the background stuff) I am not so gifted in the execution of the ideas, which is where some of you would come in handy. It is a collaborative idea and we need people who can think just as big and be positive about the potential outcome. Make sure all "I think I can do better than that attitudes" are left at the door. All ideas will be considered, and clear and rational explanations should be offered for why one idea was accepted over another.

i think the other idea of making an article about how we as fans think about her music and the choices made for albums and shows, can open Celine and her team's eyes! She can't get away from it when it is published. To think that The Power of Love, Because you loved me ( sick of that song) etc. are there in every concert and every tour and that Celine should innovate herself! bring something new and wow us and others!

------

And about the album; The song ain't gonna look the other way could have been a smashing hitsingle! but it was never released. only put on the Vegas live cd. I don't care if they place that song on a new album. Because I am sure there are a lot of people who never heard this gem!

For me, I like ballads, as long as they are original , have something to say and touch us.

Uptempo is nice as well and can work very well too. And Rock, I don't mind, Celine can sing everything. Fight the feeling, I loved it, More of that please!

I'm not sure which thread I mentioned writing the article in, so this will be the third place I've placed it just in case anyone is interested. I am in the process of writing the "letter" I mentioned that addresses the misunderstandings Celine's team seems to have about what fans would like to hear from her. I'm trying to approach in a way that says "hmmm, we've not heard it this way before" as opposed to "who do they think they are trying to tell us what to do" kind of way. I want it to be seen as a criticism worth considering as opposed to finding fault. I'm having a little trouble with what I am trying to say to make sure that I am covering the basis of what fans are saying. Would anyone like to contribute or offer assistance? The letter is addressed to Celine, though I know it will not go to her directly. What do you say? Here is what I have written so far. It is a rough, rough draft and I believe missing some key points. Help me fill them in. Let me know what you think.

Dear Celine,

I cannot even imagine the number of people who are pulling at you from all directions because of who you are and what you are able to do. From family obligations to the larger scale obligations of your professional life, if you did not have the kind of people around you looking out for you, my goodness, how would you manage?!

As I have said before, I am so thankful that in spite of being pulled in so many different directions, you continue to provide the type of entertainment that you do for your fans. Not many are as “everlasting” in the industry as you have been over the past thirty years, nor have they maintained the kind of connection you seem to have with your fans. However, with all of that said, I am sure you are well aware, there are many who would still like to see a whole lot more from you, especially with regard to your current and future projects.

You see, Celine, you essentially have two types of fans. There are those who are emotionally connected to Celine, the doting mom and wife who wants to just be like the average person. We love to hear you talk about how the twins are progressing, how RC is doing in school, and your hanging around the house in your pajamas. We don’t really care about what you are doing, when you are doing it, or how you are doing it, as long as we are hearing that you are doing well, you are happy with what you are doing, and we can get periodic updates that all things in your life are well, personally and/or professionally. Then, there are those whose connection is primarily to your career. While they enjoy hearing about your family, the main concerns are:

1. What’s your next album going to be like? Will the album be all ballads or also include up tempo songs?

2. Who are you collaborating with?

3. Will we ever get beyond “Because You Loved Me” or “My Heart Will Go On”? Where are the other songs, like “Unison”, “Think Twice”, and “Then You Look At Me”?

4. Will she add more of her own songs to her show as it progresses?

5. Will any of the French album writers write for her English albums?

Not that we aren’t happy with what you’ve given us, but there seems to be a slight misunderstanding amongst your team as to what fans would like to hear from you. For instance:

1. In some of your interviews, it is often said that your “fans” want to hear your classics like “Because You Loved Me” and “My Heart Will Go On”. This is true for those fans who only know you because of these songs. But your base fans know you from the beginning and miss hearing you sing from your wider repertoire of English and French classics.

Okay, so I've allowed myself to get distracted from some other work to concentrate on this project for a minute. Here is my first idea:)

Imagine that Celine has an alter ego that is torn between sharing her life with the public and keeping it private. People think they know who she is, but this alter ego is questioning whether this is true. Or it could be, from a fans perspective, a questioning of whether Celine wants to be as public as she is.

The song is titled "Inner Secrets" and is a work in progress. I love hearing Celine with an acoustic background. This song is soft. I hear it with an acoustic guitar, light drums, and a bass. As far as background vocals, maybe some "ooos" and "ahhs". What do you think? Again, a rough draft, work in progress

"Inner Secrets" by Felicia Eshun

You want to hear me say

what's on my mind

But those are thoughts

I'll never let you find

To tell the truth

I'd rather tell a lie

than see you hurt

or let you see me cry

Do you think you know

who I am

or are there inner secrets

I should keep to myself

Should I tell the world

all there is to know about me

or are there inner secrets

no one else should see

I know the truth

will set me free

but not if it will take

you away from me

To tell the truth

I'd rather leave you out

Than see you hurt

or your heart filled with doubt

Do you think you know

who I am

or are there inner secrets

I should keep to myself

Should I tell the world

all there is to know about me

or are there inner secrets

no one else should see

I haven't gotten to a bridge part yet. The second verse needs some tweeking, but it's a start.

Love the song so far. The idea scares me a bit because I don't want to lose her and i don't like the thought of her being torn.

I have a medium-tempo song that I wrote just for her when I thought I'd be going to see her on opening night in Vegas, didn't but that's okay, that I'd like to contribute. It's called A Moment That Never Ends. PM me if you want to hear the lyrics.

The chorus, to give you an idea...

"Sometimes a precious moment happens when you least expect it,

And it's the little things that touch and leave you eternally connected,

like the time I spent with you that's writen, encased, infused, encoded in my heart,

So that I can touch the stars again,

In this moment that never ends."

It could be from the perspective of a woman who lost her husband and is reminiscing...or whatever. I do of course, have a balad, but I understand why it should maybe be last in the submission.

I too am late for something to focus on this.

I also liked your letter. I love how you said it kindly, nicely, but directly. I think that's also one of your gifts. Right on, keep going!

This is really fun. Anyone else want to help? I'm one of those fans who thinks she could sing the phone book and I would not care, but yet my main, primary connection is to Celine the singer. this is good and fun!

In some ways it's seems like we are form those fans that are actually interested of only what's she's doing next. I love listening her talking about her pajamas, but of course i want some news about her projects. I don't know which is the correct way to say it softly, without hurting her in a way.. I want to hear BYLM and MHWG and i don't want to "get beyond them". I just want to hear another songs, too. This is Celine's style and i don't want to change it fully. You say it right about the updates we want to hear from her, but not "we don't really care about what you're doing..". It's true that if everything is going well, it's the most important we want to know, but some details would not be so unbearable for us. This is what i think for now.. and i can agree for the rest of the letter with you.

I finished the letter. Tell me what you think. Do capture what you think regarding the misunderstandings? Do I need to change anything?

Dear Celine,

I cannot even imagine the number of people who are pulling at you from all directions because of who you are and what you are able to do. From family obligations to the larger scale obligations of your professional life, if you did not have the kind of people around you looking out for you, my goodness, how would you manage?!

Not that we aren’t happy with what you’ve given us, but there seems to be a slight misunderstanding amongst your team as to what fans would like to hear from you.

You essentially have two types of fans. We are just as excited to hear about “the truth being in the poo” as we are about a new album, with new songs, or whatever it is you are doing at the moment. I have even heard some say “I don’t care if she songs the phone book, as long as she is singing!” Then, there are those whose connection is primarily to your career. While they enjoy hearing about your family and they are concerned/curious about this area of your life, they really want to know more about your music because that’s how they were introduced to you. They want to know:

These are the fans who don’t feel like their “needs” are being met at the moment. They don’t feel they are hearing enough about your career. These fans are people who plan ahead financially to be amongst the first to buy new albums or tickets to shows. They spend thousands of dollars to buy plane tickets and hotel rooms to travel across the globe just to see you one night, hopefully on opening night, but don’t feel it is worth it for other shows when they are going to see or hear you sing something they’ve heard ten or fifteen times before, plus they own the CDs, the studio version and the live version. Doesn’t make them any less fans or love you less. Just makes them think twice about how they plan to spend their money.

You said once in an interview that you don’t need people around you who are always telling you what you want to hear. You want people around who will tell you the truth regardless and I think your fans are pretty honest in how they feel about you and your career. Your fans love you regardless, but not so many love the direction your career is headed when it comes to the promotion of you and your work. This is purely selfishness on all of our parts just because we simply can’t get enough of you☺

We don’t feel like the music industry encourages your caliber of music anymore. While you come with the full package (beauty, talent, and ethics), “artist” seen today only seem to have the “beauty”. I realize that this has a lot to do with personal taste, but as a mother of young children, can you honestly say that you encourage half the stuff being pushed on us in the name of entertainment?

Your fans see a potential in you that we sometimes feel is being overlooked by the people behind you. Do we know the ends and outs of all that goes on behind the scenes? No, we do not. Do we understand that your life as a mother is more important to you now than your career? Yes, we do. You’ve been there and done most of the things we as fans still see as a potential for you. You’ve had the number one hits. You’ve been on the top 100 Billboard. You’ve all the major awards and have been recognized for them the world over. You’ve been in the business for over thirty years and you are still going strong with your fans, yet there is a newer generation who still do not who you are. Do you want them to know who you are? I don’t know. Do I want them to know who you are? Yes! I do. It is personal. I want them to know about the kind of love you sing about and get so emotional over. I want them to know about the importance of commitment. I want them to know about giving back to the community and supporting those who are in need. I want them to know about being kind to others and being sympathetic. No you are not the only person doing these things. No it is not your responsibility to teach them how to be these things. But, in the absence of someone teaching these things, there is you and your career. Children today are not being raised by the loving parents like you and I were. They are raised by whatever is in front of them at the moment.

With all of that said, here is the truth:

1. In some of your interviews, it is often said that your “fans” want to hear your classics like “Because You Loved Me” and “My Heart Will Go On”. This is true for those fans who only know you because of these songs. But your base fans know you from the beginning and miss hearing you sing from or want you to sing more from your wider repertoire of English and French classics.

2. We understand that you are part of a business entity. There are terms of contracts that must be considered before anything is released to the public. At this point in your career, can you give a definitive answer about what you would like to do? Are you ready to retire and spend your days enjoying what you have already accomplished or what kind of music do you still have in you? What can you tell us? Specifics please.

Please, don’t think “The nerve of you to say such things!” because it really isn’t about trying to tell you what to do. Do what you want to do as you have always said is what you do. These are things from the perspective of outsiders looking in, who give up just as much to support what you do. We want you to be around forever, never to retire, but we know that may not be what you desire.

There is just so much that we see in you.

May God bless you and keep you.

May His light shine upon you!

We pray for you and send you much love.

Touching Thumbs☺

I've read through almost every reply...all of Javito's as usual the guy knows what's on my mind without me saying it, knows how I think. It's a gift mister. I like the sound of this project.

I like it because it's all the same writers who write her songs and she never (to me) sounds different. I also long for those days of a fresher taste, a fan dedicated album. I know she puts a message to her fans in all her albums I'm sure and thanks everyone for their support, but wouldn't this be nice to have her really dedicate it to people who love her beyond MHWGO and BYLM.

Music today is all vocally produced all pitch controlled even live...I don't want Céline to go that way, I don't want music that I personally like to go stale. Céline has always been my core musical influence, the one I always go back to on my MP3 player or on my laptop. Even when i have a headache she soothes it.

I know that her team will try to do their best even if they do nothing, but as was said, nothing that we have ever wanted has went passed them.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I want to be proven wrong.

I'd actually like to take a prominent role in this project if I could; helping decide songs, titles, covers etc or whatever the master needs.

I also know fyoung98 that you said you can't really get projects like this off of the ground, I'd like to help with this ^^

I liked the lyrics to the song and would love to hear the melody...I have some qualifications in music so I could possibly help with that.

Another I, lol. Not!

This project however it turns out, I hope goes well. The team probably won't listen to us, but maybe we can put it together anyway and see what it's like.

What would the job positions be? Personally I'd like to open my own productions company...got a little business managerial side to me, not that I wanna take over the project, but I wanna help.

Don't worry Javito, I haven't lost your words in the proverbial "ether". I have a semi-faith in this, and I'd like to have full faith in it that's why I'm lending a hand. I urge anyone else interested to do the same, even just to see something that might go somewhere.

Even if it doesn't get off at least we can say that we tried. Should Koolan be notified of this....does he know? Hello?

I do hope the song choice method isn't going to be like the channel idol that never really stopped in the years I've been on this forum...let's get it done guys!!! make something happen eh? !!! :thumbsup2:

I also read over both of the letters, the only thing I have a problem with, if this is the letter to accompany said cd, musical listing, it wouldn't really go to Céline herself. I think it would have to be more formal sounding and heavily less complimentary. I'd like to talk to you about it over PM too, lemme know.

Sorry for going on a bit ^^

PS. I also wouldn't like to see this as another fan tracklisting thing...things like that get outta hand very very quickly.

^^ :whee:

Hello?

After considering some of the promotional stuff that Celine has been doing lately and after having viewed the trailer to the OWN documentary, I am second guessing sending the letter. Even in the little that has been provided to us, the documentary touched me in showing how much Celine really does do and her struggles, and I just didn't feel right about it anymore. Not that I think the ideas presented in the letter are wrong, I just changed my mind based on what I saw in the videos.

I am working on another project (a book) in which I have reformatted the letter to be more of a personal reflection.

From my own writing, what I am finding is that my lyrics are leading more towards an album dedicated to Celine than an album of songs to be sang by Celine. But who knows, she might like them well enough that she would want to record them. I have poem versions of these lyrics that I am including in the book project.

I'd be happy to share with you the melody I have so far. I will send you the link. In sharing this link, I think about the MHWGO story Celine told when she heard it the first time. The piano player trying to sing it kind of turned her off. She told him that he wasn't helping the song. I am not a singer (I can hold a note). What you will hear is me simply putting ideas down so that whoever hears knows what I am trying to with the song. By no means is it the best, but those who have the real "know-how" can work their magic. Just include me in the process (since I am the writer :P )

As I said to someone else, this is a part of an evolving me. I'm learning how to take some chances in my life (inspired by Celine and Oprah). I want to be able to say that I tried to do something that was in line with my passion. I like writing. I want to write. Celine has been the motivation behind this for a long time. She talked about being the child who didn't want to be at school, but at home doing music. I am the teacher.

AS far as the "job positions" are concerned, I'm guessing it would be the same as it would be for anyone preparing to do an album (except it is voluntary and no pay, at least in the beginning). If any money should be made from this, it would be shared amongst an already established group of participants (which we need to do). We need to decide if we want it to be an album with a mixture of genres or do we want to stick to one. We already know ballads have to be included because that is her thing. People talents in a particular style of music should work together. I know I am pop-ish, ballady in nature. People who are jazz oriented should work together, rock, so forth and so on.

Most importantly, I want all the songs to be original. No covers.

So let's get on it! The best is yet to come! Tell me what you can do....

Please could you send me the song as it sounds fab?

Keep up the good work and if you need another poem in the book, you can use mine?

I am so happy people are taking chances and risks because of her. I know the feeling. A month ago, I went on a singing audition, and I can promise you I would Not have done this a year ago. It's all because of her.

I think the letter is good and really true but can totally understand why you might be re-thinking it. I love your book idea, too. And the new direction you seem to have taken in the album. I agree, generas should work together, and I'm totally on board. I too am a pop and balad singer, like Celine is. She is my base inspiration, influence, motivation and idol. I have poetry, too, believe me. Most people would think I am a dork if they knew the kind of poetry I write about her.

I think we should figure out if this album is

1 one genera or many

2 a dedication album or a possible album she could sing. I think you've already decided you think you might be leaning toward a dedication album, and the song I proposed is definitely either one.

I am happy to record it and email it to someone in a wma or wav file, but I will warn you my little computer does not have the best sound quality. I'm concerned that I would never be able to record it in a professional setting unless I got in to an actual studio as I just don't have the equipment in my possession. I suppose I would be willing, if someone heard it and liked it and learned it, could play and sing it as I wrote it, to let someone else do it as long as I got credit as writer.

Sorry I ranted, but oh goodness this is so so so so so exciting. I can only say just one thing, damn I love her!!! That's never gonna change no matter what anyone says, does or thinks!!!

L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle! :)
