'The Essential' to be released in Europe this Summer

People are totally missing my point, it's not new material, it's not a live album... it is simply a record with songs from years back re-mixed into the order that they want, so what its 2011 we or MOST people have either a IPOD, I-PHONE, MP3 player or something of that sort.. we Don't need any more albums with hits on them, plain and simple... i'm really not complaining i'm just stating my view on things and my point is why in the hell release another album with the same #ss songs, people in europe can go buy "All the Way" or "My Love: The Collection" or "The Collector Series", geesh there are so many albums with the same damn songs.

Sony don't need new material to justify a re-release, have you seen how many different FIY/LTAL/ANDHC packages there have been in recent years?

What people need to realise is that all these new "Essential" CDs may well be promoted together on special display stands in certain music stores, so this CD may get more attention than Celine's standard greatest hits albums. ATW & TCS have been re-released like this several times over the years too you know! :yes:

There's absolutely no excuse for not having another different CD like a Collector's Series Vol. 2, with unreleased/rare songs along with all this re-releases who have been repeatedly done dozens of times :glare:

It can be understandable that Sony releases this kind of repackaded albums every year several times, but it's not acceptable that at the same time, we never get anything "new", especially when they have the material and the means to do it. That's my point :thumbsup2:

L-A-Z-I-N-E-S-S and easy money, that's what they care for, and personally I never thought René would let this happen with Céline's career.

They milked his very last moments by even releasing his rehearsals videos aka "This is it" in tons of formats in order to ca$h in.They released an album in his name while he was already dead and rumors say that they auto-tuned some songs to make it sound like him because the songs were unfinished. They also are scheduled to release an album every year for the 5 coming years because of all unfinished materials.

You see Sony is greedy but it waits until the artist goes away so that they get enough money for themselves and slash out the artist out of the way :thumbsup2:

Yes, its creepy to think that, but that's how they behave. They won't exploit Céline's talent as she and her fans deserve until 1) that horrible thing happens one day or 2) until she goes from Sony (and we'd better pray for that to happen SOON!) :whistling:

There were better days in which record labels worked for and in praise of the artistry inside each singer they have signed with them, bringing the best out of them, but today, you either:

1) are a young singer in your 20's and sing hot dance/uptempo songs so that the record company pays attention to you

OR

2) you are a singer with enough interest in the business, your career and your fans to keep bringing the public the best material.

So Céline is no longuer in the condition 1), but she could at least have a good team to be doing things properly in 2). But they just don't.

To me, its been years since they lost interest in releasing physical material and care about her discography. Yes, we're in the digital era and physical music is not enjoying its best days, but we all know Céline is not in that league. She's not into the "digital" thing at all. And piracy is not the excuse for not having today more Céline material than what we have these days (not to mention that the latest releases seem to be all rushed in design/contents aspects).

- When all artists are caring the most these days to give their fans attractive and bonus contents so that they buy the original item and don't download it illegaly, Céline doesn't.

- When all artists veteran artists with an extense discography are re-releasing their albums with tons of new material, unreleased songs/photos/videos, special packages, special audio features and countless extra features, Céline doesn't (or they just scan the cover and booklet with less quality than the original and include 2 karaoke songs like they did with D'eux 15º anniversary edition, or announce the TAST or ANDHC collectors editions with "remastered" sound when they can't even include any unreleased song nor the "Superlove" track which was included in the 2002 european edition).

- When we could have dozens and dozens of concerts taped during 5 World Tours and rare shows which we knoe they were taped (Olympia or Simplement Marnay), and special shows for the TV (CBS Specials), they just don't care to include any of them in any release.

- When vinyl format is back in fashion today, and record labels are releasing the most bizarre albums from both old and new artists, Céline team just don't care about this format (if you have to keep doing re-releases constantly, at least make something different and interesting with them, not repackage a CD with a b/n cover and that's all ).

And we could follow for days...

They just think in the money brought by her concerts (something which not every fan can afford shall I recall -_- ) but the artistry and dedication has gone long ago...

While I completely agree with most of the comments above and would love to get the collection that everyone above is dreaming of, the thing is that this is NOT being released IN PLACE OF a collection most fans would dream of, it is simply adding Celine onto the "The Essential" series. Like everyone has said, it's an easy way to make money and it's great for the average person who is going through a store and sees a bunch of the Essential albums and decides to pick up one or two different artists to listen to. The Essential series has been around for a while and the series has albums for many artists and almost every single major artist who has been around for a while. The Essential series basically has most of the top hits of an artist that everyone loves and can even be good for those who want to start a collection of different artists or simply learn more about an artist they just discovered. Even though the first part is what My Love technically was, more people are likely to just pick this up at the store since they are familiar with The Essential series and they know what to expect, just like how another artist with a new Essential CD might've already released a greatest hits album recently that most people didn't hear or care about. For example I bought The Essential Michael Jackson because I wanted the songs that I know and love to listen to, so since i'm not a huge fan and I'm familiar with the series, it's a great, cheap album for me to get just to enjoy his music. Of course most of us won't buy this since we just got My Love, but for others, they just want a quick album that they can recognize and get. Simple as that.

This is not an official release by Celine's team like My Love was, nor is it an official re-release of My Love. If it was, then it would make much more sense to become annoyed and get all worked up.

Okay, I'm going to backtrack on my "No comment" earlier and jump into the discussion a bit more in-depth. I'm going to try and not speak for everybody on here, so please forgive me if it comes across that way. Also, please correct me if my comment below is incorrect.

I would have been "fine" (using the term loosely) with another "hits album" being released, but only if there was something different about the release when compared to All The Way...A Decade Of Song, The Collectors Series - Volume One and the My Love series. The only thing different that I can see which was brought to this Essential album was an altering of the My Love artwork. (A fairly mediocre job at best, but I suppose that's up to personal opinion.) Had different songs been included such as the fan-favorites "I Surrender," "Reveal" and "Then You Look At Me," I think we'd all be singing a different tune. Also, just because Céline is part of the Sony family, a family which releases Essential albums by their other "family members" all the time, does not excuse the fact that something different and new could not have been done with Céline's version. Bringing something new to her Essential CD could have been the catalyst for change to future releases of the series.

That's my two cents.

That I agree with, it would've been great to have a different setlist (btw just out of curiosity to everyone, do we have any official info that we have the same setlist as ML?). I don't think this album was intended to have much effort placed into it nor was it for more hardcore fans, but they could've at least changed it up a bit while retaining most of ML because as stated above, ML has a pretty good setlist to use.

I hate to break it to you, but so long as Céline and "The Big R" keep signing contracts with Sony Music, then Sony Music IS part of Céline's team.

First, you cannot confuse Celine's record label with Celine's team.

Second, when Celine signs a contract deal with Sony to distribute her music; there must be a close in the contract that stipulates that Sony has the right to do what it wishes with Celine's catalogue. I am sure that this close exists which explains the over-load of re-releases of old albums in the past till today.

Third, when Celine's team is involved you get a special release: for example, the special edition of TATST in 2008 had a bonus DVD included in it; ANDHC re-release had also a bonus DVD included inside. When Sony re-releases albums they don't get special treatments; sometimes they include international or bonus tracks to the album so that it's complete but they don't spend too much time on the release whereas, Team Celine makes sure that they add something to the whole experience...
