'The Essential' to be released in Europe this Summer

What a hideous cover. Did they hire a 10-year old to design that? Just another reason why Celine needs a new marketing team ASAP.

 

I'm sure Céline herself would be so pleased to give the fans some portion of the tons of unreleased material she has, if she knew we want it . But until somebody tells her about our wishes, nothing will happen /at least what concerns Sony's side)

 

What would you give today to have a "The Collector's Series Vol.2" with "Love Still Exists", "¿Sabes Cómo Es El Amor?", "Send Me A Lover" and "Cry Just A Little" for example, among the unreleased/rare tracks?? And a cover with a brand new photo from a past photoshoot of course

 

Tell me we couldn't have had that by now...

Sony releases dozens of these repackaged albums and then for one english album she releases in 4 years (Taking Chances), she gets one official single and 0 promotion after it It's just an abuse and a mockery for Céline's new material. And it's just not fair, from my point of view, but maybe I'm crazy.

 

There's a reason why Sony didn't re-release her album TC; the answer is simple it didn't do well on the charts and the sales numbers compared to her One Heart album, which was considered as a lackluster album, weren't good as well.

 

BTW, TC promotions was quite weird in a sense that she wasn't promoting TC while promoting TC. Her TV appearances for TC were promoting more her FIY and LTAL albums. She performed MHWGO and BYLM more than TC while promoting TC.

Well, actually I didn't mean that Sony had to re-release the TC album, but now that you say it, at least a "special edition" in 2009 with the unreleased songs (the 2 tracks in the japanese edition + There Comes A Time + others we don't know) would have been something to appreciate. Every big artist gets a "special" or "deluxe" edition of an album some months or a year after the release of the standard album, except Céline.

 

I guesss it was better to release the upteenth "best of" (My Love) compilation instead of supporting the world tour taking more singles from the last album, showing the "new" Céline and thinking in the fans. Oh I'm forgetting they prefer to have Céline stuck in the past singing and presenting always the same songs for the general public, instead of showing the fans what's new

Well said, the best antidote to get used to this mess is to take it with irony!

 

Though it's true, Elvis left this world so many years ago, but he gets better material than this singer who is still alive and very active (hopefully for many many more years!!).

 

It's a shame how Sony is treating her, but I still can't understand the laziness inside Céline's own team. She could have founded her own record label to do things in a better way. Though maybe the only truth in all this is that Céline & René AGREE with all this laziness which is in fact SAD

I might be the only one, but in my eyes the cover doesn't look that bad. I may be crazy, who knows.

 

Sony is not at their best, I agree with you on that but we should be happy with what we get and you don't have to buy it if you find it so awful.

And the "Essential" series has been around for a very long time and they have albums for a LOT of artists and they just decided to add Celine on to their line of artists. Nothing wrong with that to me..

 

P.S. I do think that it would've been better if they used another picture instead of the same one from the My Love album, but at least it's recent..

The amount of stupidity (sorry for being a bit rude) in this thread is astonishing: As some of you have pointed out, this release is part of a big chunk of releases, covering a wide range of Sony artists. Often artists haven't a word to say about such releases and the target audience for these is not the hardcore fan but the regular guy who goes shopping on Saturday or Sunday, sees the CD and buys it because it's a cheap way of getting a good overview of an artist's career. So, no connection at all to Celine's 30th anniversary and no sign for a big conspiracy against Celine, just a simple and usual move by a record label to sell the music of its artists in a time of illegal downloads.

 

As I said, a few posts have stressed and explained this, but some people simply doesn't seem to get it and fall in 'panic mode' in a second. If it weren't that frustrating and annoying, it would be incredibly funny...

i'm sorry she hasnt really had any huge sucess since "Thats the way it is" and the "All the Way" album is still her best collection of what people call "greatest hits" they may or may not be our favorite songs but they were the hits that madde Celine into the english star, so i personally dont think she needs another HITs album besides that one, maybe in 10 years there might be a few songs to add but not now.

For goodness sake, this is NOT a new greatest hits album from Celine's team! Like I've said before, it's simply part of a series of Sony re-releases promoting big artists at an affordable price in Europe. I don't know why people are making such a fuss! Furthermore, all these new "Essential" releases are on 2CDs, so it makes perfect sense to use the recent and more comprehensive MLEC tracklisting.

People are totally missing my point, it's not new material, it's not a live album... it is simply a record with songs from years back re-mixed into the order that they want, so what its 2011 we or MOST people have either a IPOD, I-PHONE, MP3 player or something of that sort.. we Don't need any more albums with hits on them, plain and simple... i'm really not complaining i'm just stating my view on things and my point is why in the hell release another album with the same #ss songs, people in europe can go buy "All the Way" or "My Love: The Collection" or "The Collector Series", geesh there are so many albums with the same damn songs.

But it's a cheaper album !!! And those hits, those songs, are the ones most people know about Celine... And by letting them know more songs, they might get interested on her other albums, and that way, get to know more of her songs...
