I love my nano but...

Ooooo I'm interested in the iPod Classic... my 4th Gen iPod (three years old this month) gave me a scare last week (!Folder icon and sad face iPod) but it magically started working/got all my songs back after I shook it a few times. Apple today offered a $100 Apple Store credit to all early iPhone adopters.

 

Responding to widespread anger from early purchasers of the iPhone over $200 price cuts announced yesterday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs today published an open letter offering a $100 Apple Store credit to any customer who purchased an iPhone at its original $499 or $599 price points, and is not already receiving a rebate or other compensation from the company. Jobs simultaneously explained the company’s reasons for the price cut, apologized, and acknowledged its need to “do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers.”

 

“There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever,” explained Jobs. “This is life in the technology lane.”

 

“[E]ven though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone,” Jobs continued, “and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.”

 

According to Jobs, details of the $100 credit “are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week.” The credit will be available through Apple retail or online locations.

I just sold my old (4 GB, first generation) nano for $145 I can't believe I got that much for it when the new one costs 150 but yay, now I'll be able to buy a new one sooner than i thought

Apple reveals details of $100 Apple Store iPhone credit

 

Apple has posted details of Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ promised $100 Apple Store credit for early iPhone owners. The program is for customers who own a qualifying iPhone purchased prior to August 22, 2007, and who haven’t yet received any compensation from Apple or AT&T. To receive a credit, which can’t be used on iTunes — only at Apple retail or online stores, or Apple Telesales — users need to Identify their iPhone by entering their phone number and iPhone serial number. Apple then sends an SMS text message to the iPhone containing an access code to redeem the $100 credit. Again, users need to enter their phone number and this access code to generate the $100 electronic store credit. Users must activate their iPhone before submitting their claim; customers must submit their claims by November 30, 2007.

just got my $100 store credit at the apple store after paying full price for the 8gb iphone. Its a very easy and painless process. too bad i didnt wait to buy this freaking phone.

Viva la Unlocking! French Law Dictates Apple Must Allow Unlocking

 

Apple agrees to sell iPhones in France unlocked

 

On a previous blog at DailyTech, it was revealed that iPhones were invading France for the holiday season, after French carrier Orange struck a deal with Apple for distribution rights.

 

Now in a surprising twist, Apple and Orange will team up in France, and only in France, to offer the iPhone unlocked.

 

The move comes after Apple met a roadblock when its international policy of banning unlocking was challenged by French law. A French telecommunications law, passed in 1998 states that manufacturers must offer to unlock consumers phones for a small fee for the first sixth months after release, and for free after that, as reported via French news site Les Echoes.

 

The locked version of the phone will cost €399, but the unlocked version's price has not yet been announced by Apple. It may cost significantly more, though as French law mandates, Apple must agree to sell the phones unlocked at no premium after six months.

 

In the U.S. there are no laws that explicitly state that locking a phone to a network is illegal, though recent class action suits have accused Apple and its U.S. carrier, AT&T, of violating U.S. antitrust and warranty laws.

 

Apple is very much against unlocking iPhones, probably due to the fact that it makes a large cut of the phone contract, as detailed in the upcoming UK release. Apple loses this revenue when its phones are moved over other networks which do not give a cut of revenues to Apple.

 

Apple has gone as far as "bricking" iPhones with its new v1.1.1 firmware update, the primary point in the two class action suits. Apple has in the past ardently opposed to the installation and development of unauthorized third party applications for its devices. The update turns iPod Touches and iPhones with third party apps or unlocked iPhones into "iBricks," which are frozen in a state of limbo.

 

There is unlocking software available, which unfreezes the devices, but costs a whopping $100. Still, some feel this is a small price to pay to save their iDevice from becoming a paperweight. It is also cheaper than the solution proposed by Apple's spokeswoman to owner of "iBricks" -- to go buy a new iPhone.

 

Apple also has had to contend with recent reports of iFires, accusations of environmental misconduct, and another upcoming class action suit based on these allegations, which accuse Apple of using toxic materials in its iPhone.

 

Apple would not comment on whether its agreement to sell unlocked iPhones in France could be mirrored in the U.S., but it seems unlikely to do so, unless legally compelled to.

 

For now Apple will continue to wrestle with unlockers and legal issues in the U.S., but in France the news is "Viva la unlocking."

Maybe I'd try an unlocked iPhone. But the battery better be exchangable. I'm gald the Green Peace sued Apple for that. Hope Apple would change the design.

iPhone 3G = iPhone + 3G + GPS, and little bit bigger, for large battery capacity, still shorter battery life when it uses 3G though.

 

You can't get iPhone 3G at $199, 8GB or $299, 16GB without signing a contract with AT&T. That's why it's so cheap. it requires you to sign a at least $30 data plan for 2 years with AT&T.

I know! I was so excited yesterday! But i don't think i will buy the new iphone, actually i dont think i wanna buy the iphone anymore; my old one only lasts for 4 months before its broken! seriously, i think i will stick with my new blackberry!

well, its kinda very very long story, i first left the phone in the library, and thank god, someone returned it to the front desk, so i was like "oh i am so lucky", and i went back and picked it up the next day, okay.. so in the evening of the second day, i had dinner plans with a friend, and after we had dinner, we went to this fish market and wanted to pick up some fish, and i slipped, and SAT on my iphone! and boom..... its broken!

 

so... my iphone....... lost it, found it, and then broke it! so sad!!!

 

but i also find its no the most easy thing to use, especially when i have to txt someone, its very annoying, or maybe my fingers are too big!

 

oh well, now i am back to old american style, blackberry, but i kinda like it! the phone is smaller and thinner, and it looks quite pretty too!

Yesterday the new Iphone 3G was announced... This time Belgium was also mentioned to get the new Iphone on July, 11 when the new Iphone will become available... Finally I thought since the previous Iphone was not available in Belgium due several laws who prohibit that you have to buy a second object (in this case a subscription with one of the operators) before you can buy an (simlocked) Iphone. Also Simlocking isn't not allowed in Belgium (and several other European countries since people have to be free to chose their operator and can not be forced to 1 specific operator)...

 

But today, Mobistar, a Belgian operator (chosen to sell the unlocked Iphone) stated that Belgium won't get the Iphone on July, 11... An exact date isn't been given and a statement has been made that the new Iphone will become available somewhere during this year... Neither are any prices know for both new Iphones... It's possible that prices will be (a lot) higher in Belgium due the fact that the IPhones can not be simlocked.

 

The Belgian website of Apple stated yesterday evening that the Iphone will become available in Belgium on July, 11 but today the announcement was allready removed

 

I'm curious when the new Iphone will become available in Belgium... Hopefully very soon since I need a new cell phone and with the 3G option the Iphone is a nice phone to have...

You should have a case for it. You can break any cellphone wiht big screen by sitting on it.

 

Maybe your fingers are too big. I fint he input method is pretty good. Although there's way to use K9 on iPhone, I still prefer the small keyboard.
