Whitney Houston Record Inspires Celine Dion

 

One diva’s comeback is inspiring another. After hearing Whitney Houston’s empowering ballad “I Look to You,” Celine Dion liked what she heard and placed a call into the man behind the record.

 

The Canadian power vocalist is looking to Tricky Stewart to contribute to her new album. “After she heard that Whitney Houston record, she definitely called,” says the super-producer, who helmed the title track off Houston’s I Look to You.

 

Tricky, who along with The-Dream crafted “Skies of L.A.” from Dion’s Taking Chances album, hopes to play a bigger role on her next project. “We sent ['Skies of L.A.'] over, she fell in love with it, she went crazy over it. It was the last song that went on her album, and hopefully it will be like Mariah Carey was in a sense that when we got involved with ‘Touch My Body,’ that was one of the last songs for that project,” he shares with Rap-Up.com. “Hopefully when she makes a new record we’ll be able to get heavily involved because that would be truly amazing.”

 

Stewart’s chance encounter with Dion happened one day in Las Vegas. “‘Skies of L.A.’ was just a song that she heard, fell in love with, and we just happened to be working at the same studio. That year we were out in Vegas and she did the show out in Vegas for all those years,” he explains. “She was in the next room working on some stuff for her record and sent someone over to see if we had anything.”

 

The hitmaker, whose clients include Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears, and Ciara, says Dion is the real deal. The “Because You Loved Me” songstress prefers conventional recording methods instead of relying on technology, much like another diva. “Celine works in a really old-school, organic fashion. There’s no leaning on any technology whatsoever,” Tricky reveals. “A lot of the artists are like that now. Beyoncé’s kinda like that. She doesn’t really lean on technology. They like to work in a more traditional way.”

When listening to Whitney's album, I reckon songs like 'Call You Tonight' and 'For The Lovers' would be great for her.

hahaha well actually I do like Skies of LA, I'd take it any day over IGNL, like Claudette! But I don't think RnB is the way to go for Céline, she should do more rock, folk, pop! Forget me not is more than enough!

Exactly! Call You Tonight is one of the best songs I've heard in the last years. Is amazing, and I'm glad that Whitney still knows how to do a good record

 

Also, For The Lovers is another great song for a single today.

 

 

But... Skies Of L.A.?? Is that guy with some kind of headache or is he drunk? Skies Of L.A. is not a song I would have in mind if we are talking about giving her a hit song That song is nice, but JUST that. Nice to hear, but is not great at all!

 

And agree at what she needs is some good up-tempo/dance songs, not more crappy slow songs that are rubbish for her

 

I don't know about you guys, but I sometimes think that Céline has lost her smell for good songs, and always thinks that the great songs are those crappy and slow songs that we don't like at all

 

Remember René's criteria for this kind of songs too, when he said that "A Song For You" was "the jewel in the desert" (or the pearl in the dessert) of the Taking Chances album THAT song?? Well I know another song titled like that which is a jewel, a fantastic song, but that's Whitney's "A Song For You" included in her last album, which also begins with a slow piano, only that it develops in a great, up-tempo and dance style That's where Céline must go and say "oh, I am crazy for that song!"

nah I didn't like that take on a Song for you by whitney. totally unneccesary! Céline does have good songs (SOL, FA, SS) but Sony's airheads decide to release the wrong ones (A, EOM) what Céline needs is a different team! I don't see this guy doing it though...

I like both Skies of L.A. and I look to you (which IMO is nicely produced, but poorly performed). I would love to hear another song like this from Celine. Guys, don't jump to judgments and conclusions just yet. I kinda get an impression from all those strong opinions here as if she already recorded the song AND released it as a pilot single...

I'm not to keen on Skies of La, it's nice, but I LOVE I Got Nothing Left WAY MORE! [grr to Davey and Claudette ]! But this might be an interesting turn. The point is that the song I Look To You has a meaning for Whitney, it's about her comeback, about all what she's been through the past 7 years. But what could mean that song for Céline? I have no idea what could mean, but for the public, is would be just the umpteenth crappy ballad from her. More of the same, again.

 

So I can't understand why she sticks that much to these kind of songs, maybe she thinks they are great for her ( ), but she should stop for a moment and see what her fans want to hear from her!

 

(On the other hand, of course its great to know that she's already thinking about her next album! )

FINALLLY! someone other than us, recognized that she's a REAL singer, and does it the old fashion way. She has pure talent, and doesnt rely on technology to do all the work! I'm excited for a new album (eventually) and I do agree...I want more uptempo songs...but am I the only one who loved "Skies Of L.A."?

I like Skies of L.A. but never obssessed over it, like I do with many of Celine's songs... Anyway, I think in the interview he was talking about Skies of L.A., not another collaboration for some new album... Whitney's album was supposed to come out a long time ago, this guy could've sent Celine some songs from it... It doesn't strike me as a new interview, about new projects.

Celine should work with the same people Leona Lewis is working with, if she wants to keep singing great ballads. I would actually love for her to work with Timbaland or someone more creative in a different way. Someone that would create a huge hit.
